There is more to flight simulation than airliners. End of discussion.

True story!....Flight 1 in another developer who is fighting P3D tooth and nail. I love their B200 more than anything I have owned for FSX. Jim likes to tell us that as Flight simmers we are not as good as "real pilots" and don't deserve better addons. Never have quite understood his attitude but if Flight 1 is going to continue to hold back and Version 2 is all that it seems then I will drop them like last years Playmate Bunny of the Year!!

It's all about what I want. I don't care what the Dev may think I deserve. We are the ones who pay the freight in the end.

In reference to Prepar3d, the screenshots, the graphics, look totally awesome!!!!

Boy, I'm hardly seeing a difference quite frankly.  When I load up FSX w/ ORBX scenery, REX E+ and TO at dawn in the PMDG T7 it's incredibly beautiful.  There has been weak evidence so far (i.e., weak testimony) as to the performance improvements in P3D v2 over FSX, other than theoretical improvements associated w/ the new core engine.

I do at this point have to agree with your opinion. I think that its real strength is going to be in the near future as Developers take advantage of the much improved interfaces. I have a theory that Milviz and their 350TI may be one of the first to open our eyes to the possibilities. They have been very quite about it, but I think they have been waiting for this Version 2 release while working hard to include new methods of design.

But you're not experiencing P3D2's dynamic shadows and lighting ... and viewing screenshots (and even videos) is not the same as experiencing a sim on your own computer. I'm extremely visual, so I'm really looking forward to P3D, which I'll eventually add FTX to (and probably Active Sky Next).

Or volumetric fog and he'll still have the biggest eyesore in FSX to deal with...that being autogen popup.

I also find it strange there there has been no demonstration videos displaying the "Alpha Fading" for autogen, and we're a little over a day from release.

Was the NDA completely lifted? Hmmm...

Evidence...

Microsoft Flight. Although there was a lot of issues with the sim from a community standpoint, the flight engine itself was evidence as to what could be done with updated code. Flight was smooth as butter. It immediately had me thinking of what the next gen of sim could be.

P3Dv2 is a step towards that. It's simply all the things I loved about FSX but with newer code that better leverages the GPU like any other current game does. Your FSX set up sounds awesome, but I can't help but think of a beautiful house that's built on a compromised foundation, meanwhile next door you have another beautiful house built on a rock solid foundation that will allow for further future growth. From the outside they are both beautiful...

It all boils down to 'entertainment'

How ridiculous.

Why do people insist on labouring this point

Well sorry "labour" this point but i am completely with "Artpom", i'll not move to P3D until PMDG also allow their products to be used.  We all understand that at the present time they do not, but as OP's question was what do you lose by migrating to P3D "artpoms" point was both valid and entirely on-topic.

Don't you still have the plan that Austin gave you? You are not supposed to post that till tomorrow afternoon. Stay with the guide we gave you.

I also feel like I should give an apology for my sentence long rants about MS.  I don't blame the Aces team, but that MS never took Flight Simulator seriously, or as seriously as it could have with their resources.  They proved that when they introduced Flight and blew off the entire FS community, and probably many many pilots along with them (I am an expired pilot).  I am sorry for the Aces team, but I am very excited that a company that is as serious as serious can get about aviation has taken over the flag bearing for the community.   And their products are bleeding edge technology == they know how to develop new products for critical applications possibly better than anyone else.  Airplane crashes are a little different than blue screen crashes, and I believe there may be a culture there that will produce a somewhat more stable outcome.  That is why I have faith P3D 2.0 will be something special.

What makes me mad about MS is that they spent over $100 million to design the new xbox one controller which really won't have any impact on sales and the old one worked fine but they wouldn't spend $10-20 million to make a new great flight sim and fired the aces team. MS is collapsing slowly.

and viewing screenshots (and even videos) is not the same as experiencing a sim on your own computer

So true. In FSX I often had WOW-moments and took a a screenshot. When I finished the flight and hurried to see the pics 99 out of 100 times I was disappointed... I do believe this is even more true with things like shadows and fog which really have to be seen in the sim. No screenshot can do justice to this. As with ALL games and sims, only seeing and experiencing it yourself will really tell you if it is any good or not. In that regard it is great LM has a very good refund policy: everyone can check it out themselves!

Or volumetric fog and he'll still have the biggest eyesore in FSX to deal with...that being autogen popup.

Which has been solved in P3D. I am very excited about that! I don't know what I hated more: the lack of shadows in FSX or that autogen popping up...

Sure, but I was responding to the other post saying the screenshots & graphics were fantastic, which as I say I wasn't seeing.  I know what you are saying though, and have hopes for sure.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were responding to.  I'm VERY optimistic about P3D (probably a tad more than I should be). . . hopefully we end up with won't been much below my expectations.
