November 23, 201312 yr Author the good thing is I bought a evga gtx 780 video card in July, so that should help.me get started in the right direction
November 23, 201312 yr Cool, You're as ready as I am then. I got into computers because if FS, back when sublogic owned it. Back then I was tweaking the config.sys and autoexec.bat as much as I could, with memory managers for DOS. I ended up building systems for others, not so much for FS. Then I started programming and getting paid for that. FS has always been the most demanding software you could run on a home computer. I still might use my 260 in another slot for a 4th, maybe a 5th, monitor, old 19' ones. I like to use skyvector when I fly. It's winter and they might help my office stay warmer. November 23, 201312 yr I also feel like I should give an apology for my sentence long rants about MS. I don't blame the Aces team, but that MS never took Flight Simulator seriously, or as seriously as it could have with their resources. They proved that when they introduced Flight and blew off the entire FS community, and probably many many pilots along with them (I am an expired pilot). I am sorry for the Aces team, but I am very excited that a company that is as serious as serious can get about aviation has taken over the flag bearing for the community. And their products are bleeding edge technology == they know how to develop new products for critical applications possibly better than anyone else. Airplane crashes are a little different than blue screen crashes, and I believe there may be a culture there that will produce a somewhat more stable outcome. That is why I have faith P3D 2.0 will be something special. November 23, 201312 yr Jumping to P3D makes sense only when PMDG will do the same, otherwise - pointless Artur
November 23, 201312 yr Windows 8 will be the ONLY desktop platform to receive dx 11 upgrades. http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/160076-directx-11-2-will-be-a-windows-8-1-and-xbox-one-exclusive-microsoft-dangles-the-upgrade-carrot Windows 8.1 is a free upgrade to Windows 8, and Windows 8 is not worth upgrading to without it. You can get a better desktop experience with 8.1 than 8. 8.1 is ready for Windows 7 users to upgrade, if they've been holding off for the various reasons. Barely, but upgrading is justifiable now (to 8 and then 8.1) (Be careful as oem 8 will not upgrade to 8.1 very easily). That's why I had Win 8 installed on the computer that I had custom built for me in Aug . . . which I have since updated to Win 8.1. Win 8 takes a bit of getting use to, but 8.1 is more desktop friendly. Now, for most of what I do, I don't find it any harder to use than Win 7. I don't blame the Aces team, but that MS never took Flight Simulator seriously, or as seriously as it could have with their resources. They proved that when they introduced Flight and blew off the entire FS community, and probably many many pilots along with them (I am an expired pilot). I am sorry for the Aces team, but I am very excited that a company that is as serious as serious can get about aviation has taken over the flag bearing for the community You didn't really need to apologize ... we all get frustrated at times. I was a MS Flight beta tester . . . and MS totally "blew off" some of us as well when we tried to tell them that it was a really bad idea to turn Flight into more of a game than a sim. It is my understanding that some of the ACEs team are now part of the P3D team . . . and I'm very glad for both them and for us, ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
November 23, 201312 yr Jumping to P3D makes sense only when PMDG will do the same, otherwise - pointless Why do people insist on labouring this point. Read PMDG's legal position on this in their forum, and let's quit the ridiculousness of these constant PMDG posts. But we accept, in your opinion, until the status quo changes, it is pointless.
November 23, 201312 yr I do not insist, push or require anything, i like their quality, that's it. Artur
November 23, 201312 yr Jumping to P3D makes sense only when PMDG will do the same, otherwise - pointless It is only pointless if the only planes you care about are PMDG's . There are other planes that will work just fine. The primary reason for moving to no longer have to tweak and pray that after sweating preparing the flight FSX won't find a way to crash before you can do anything. November 23, 201312 yr Jumping to P3D makes sense only when PMDG will do the same, otherwise - pointless Artur, with the greatest respect my friend, your statement is a tad silly and a bit like saying... 'I'm not going to buy the BMW that allows me to drive faster, has better MPG, goes around corners easier, has more space, has better climate control and is more comfortable than my current car, because I can't fit my golf clubs in the boot! I am in love with my NGX and fly it 60% of my sim time, but if I have to say goodbye to enmjoy all the benefits of a better sim, then so beit. BTW I respect your own opinion on this, I guess we will have to agree to disagree. November 23, 201312 yr Jumping to P3D makes sense only when PMDG will do the same, otherwise - pointless But that's only your opinion. Mine is that buying PMDG is pointless unless they support P3D.
