November 24, 201312 yr Author I'm no longer a student, so I do not qualify for their Academic License ... even though I cannot really afford the Professional License. I'm disabled, and I know students who have a lot more money than I do (but I feel like I should still follow the rules). I belive lm said everyone qualified for the academic license the others are if your doing training. You could always get the academic and get the pro when you've been able to save up for it. November 24, 201312 yr I like the download version as well. Firstly, those publishers that decide I have to have the disk in the drive every time I load the software doesn't get the chance to make me do it if I don't have a disk. Secondly I can't lose, scratch the disk and then not have a copy of the software. Thirdly, so may updates with software distributed via the net you find that very soon the original disk is never required because if you install from scratch you have too many patches to apply. Easier to download the full up to date version.

November 24, 201312 yr I belive lm said everyone qualified for the academic license the others are if your doing training. Really? I didn't realize that. THANKS! I've been having such a hard time with this, as I do feel like I shouldn't buy the more affordable licence if I don't qualify for it . . . but the Professional license is too expensive (and I'm not a 'professional' either). ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
November 24, 201312 yr I had my plans made for Las Vegas for Thanksgiving with friends...and I am not excited about it at all.. Who needs friends when P3D V2 is out eh? I was seriously reevaluating the worthiness of my friends. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
November 24, 201312 yr I belive lm said everyone qualified for the academic license the others are if your doing training. That's not true, sorry. The list on the LM site clearly shows that for training you need the Pro license. Only Undergraduate students can get the Academic license for training. Sorry to be such a PITA on this (some people must hate me by now for this) but the truth has to be told. ^_^ The Academic license is only for undergraduate or k-12 students. It's amazing (and worrying) why a lot of people don't get this. Obviously it's for everyone to decide which license to get: don't let me stop you from doing what you want to do. I am just posting facts, not telling you what to do.
November 24, 201312 yr Why is it surprising, Jeroen? If LM do not ask for proof, then what do you think is going to happen? November 24, 201312 yr Why is it surprising, Jeroen? If LM do not ask for proof, then what do you think is going to happen? I didn't say I was surprised. I said it's a sad. If you go into a shop and take something without paying for it, is it only theft when the shopkeeper sees you? No, it is stealing no matter if the shopkeeper sees you. It's not about the shopkeeper seeing you or LM checking you: it's about what's right and what's wrong. I used to think most flightsimmers were pretty honest, paying for addons instead of downloading them using torrents: that is heavily frowned upon on most flight simming forums and certainly here. And THAT is exactly why I don't understand why a lot of people here don't seem to mind keeping 140 bucks that belong to LM in their pockets. If you do that, don't post about piracy anymore on this forum, please, because you'd be a hypocrite. ('You' meaning everyone, not you, Christopher. ^_^ ) You can say anything about my posts concerning this but you can't say I am wrong or I don't have my facts straight.
November 24, 201312 yr Jeroen, You really shouldn't worry too much about which license you choose. While I believe that LM will be more than happy for you to buy the 199$ license, you are also permitted to buy the Academic License. Please don't forget that P3D is meant as a professional training software. We, as simmers who are using FSX, are not doing training in a sense that qualifies for professional training. We are learning and studying, that's what we do. Hence, academic. Andreas Paul

First of all I am not worrying at all because I know what license to get ^_^ , but secondly it's not about the training being professional or not, it simply is about being an undergraduate or k-12 student or not. Period. Are you an undergraduate student or a k-12 student? If not, you should buy the professional license. You say you are learning so... that means you should get the pro license! Only if you are learning AND are a graduate/k-12 student, you can get the academic license. But I think I am fighting windmills here and I have posted this more than enough by now. People only seem to read what they WANT to read. So before some of you really start to hate me, I will stop right here. If people still don't get it by now, they never will (or want to). Peace all and happy flying tomorrow in P3D 2.0! ^_^

November 24, 201312 yr Why do people insist on hijacking these threads? The post clearly was asking what time to expect version 2.0 to be released. It was not asking about which license to buy. Can we please stay on the subject of the post?
November 24, 201312 yr According to this page: http://www.prepar3d.com/product-overview/prepar3d-license-comparison/ The Professional License is for TRAINING, INSTRUCTION, LEARNING, and SIMULATION. The Academic License is for Undergraduate Student Training, Instruction Simulation, and Learning. Is this clear to everyone here? MSFS
