November 24, 201312 yr A lot of new software releases at 12:01 will p3d be the same? I will be staying up late just in case, as I have to get off to work in the morning. It'd be great to have it on board and ready to install for Monday evening fun. It's Christmas Eve.... :-) i7-9700K, MSI Z370, PNY 4070 Super, GTX 750Ti, 32GB GSkill, 43" curved Samsung, 32" BenQ, 11" LED, RealSImGear GTN750, Win10, P3DV5.4/P3DV6 and MSFS, several GoFlight modules, Saitek radio, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Virtual Fly TQ6.
November 24, 201312 yr You could take the gamble that there will be a new version out within 20 months and get the developer version. It doesn't say you must be a developer, just an interest in developing. If V3 takes longer, probably will then you will have paid more I guess..
November 24, 201312 yr My goodness, confusion reigns supreme! As a corollary to this topic, any users of Flight Simulator may expect the MS Police at their door soon - to ensure that no user has ever learned anything from FS. FS is for entertainment use only and any knowledge of flying and airplanes which you may have acquired, must be removed from your brain's memory each evening. Should you actually wish to LEARN something, a P3D licence is available. It is not licenced for entertainment purposes. Be aware that any pleasure you may derive from using P3D must be expunged promptly. You may also be tested from time to time to ensure you are not being entertained and that an appropriate amount of learning has actually occurred. Persons failing to learn anything from P3D may expect serious consequences. january
November 24, 201312 yr The Academic license is only for undergraduate or k-12 students. The Academic Licence for V1.x is for those who are " licensed, chartered or otherwise accredited to provide Academic Education." Gerry Howard

November 25, 201312 yr Arwen, you can buy a copy for my daughter who is in Junior year of highschool. She is too busy texting to have any chance of using it !!! By the way don't feel too bad for LM...as of last Friday they have $2.66 Billion of cash on hand. Mark CYYZ
November 25, 201312 yr Moderator Arwen - I'll try to find the link but I read one of the many interviews LM has done recently re V2.0 and in response to a question the answer was essentially anyone can buy the academic license for simulation. You do not have to be currently in school. BUT it also said that if you are a CFI r professional you need to buy the pro license. I also suggest that we end this discussion as it's getting to the point where it will be shut down. Since I am n California I'll probably take one shot at 00:01AM or wait until tomorrow night. I would have thought that those across the pond would have been able to buy it since it's Monday there but I have heard nothing t support that. November 25, 201312 yr Here's a link to L-M's licensing criteria, laid out nicely in table form: http://www.prepar3d.com/product-overview/prepar3d-license-comparison/ Seems clear enough to me...read it, decide for yourself what applies and/or how much your integrity is worth, and go with it. That said, let's let the "which license should/can/must I buy?" discussion die right here. Please see Tom Allensworth's post on EULA discussions pinned at the top of this forum if you have any questions. November 25, 201312 yr Thanks for all the help. I'll just have to figure this out on my own, as it was never my intent to stir things up. All I was hoping for was that someone could help me with my confusion in this, but there are way too may different interpretations of this, so I'm more confused than ever. But I'll drop this in the interest of everyone and just deal with it on my own (somehow). To all those who tried to help me, I've started a new topic "Twas the Night Before Prepar3d," to show my appreciation (and to try to inject a little humor here). ~ Arwen ~ Home Airfield: KHIE
