How is it?

Some of the response (not all) are mind numbing stupid, and I do mean stupid!

If you don't have the product don't comment on it, otherwise your just babbling.

I'm pretty tolerant of your typical Internet stupidity, but this is a case where I think AVSIM should enforce a "Verified Owner" rule where you can't post about a product you haven't purchased and tried.

I'm going unsubscribe from this thread as I just can't take the continued ignorance some have shared.

Not had a lot of time playing with it, too busy looking after you lot lol.

However, first impressions are good, graphically seems to be half way between fsx and flight.

One thing I noticed, when it first started P3D was in window mode on my primary display (I have 2). Hitting alt+enter went fullscreen on the prim\ry. Going back to window mode I then stretched P3D to cover both displays. Hit alt+enter again and it then went fullscreen on both monitors.

I'm guessing this is going to work for 3 screens as well. Guess I'll finally be able to justify an upgrade next year. Twin Gtx 880s maybe lol!

So if we have dual monitors, we can make full screen mode cover one without blacking out the other? In FSX, I didn't like how full screen mode would black out the second display as I wanted to display charts on it...

Alas with one screen I think it blanked out the other as before, but let you drag panels on it like before.

Not near my gaming rig at the moment so can't verify until tomorrow.

One thing I found quite interesting is a jump in performance when turning off "Aircraft lights cast light on ground" (forgot the exact wording).

Although the performance is impressive, actually much better than BETA. With FTXG installed and autogen sliders to max, I get about 60-70 fps. It was around 40fps with the aircraft lights cast option turned on. This is with the default aircrafts.

P3D will need a decent video card guys. On my secondary dev machine which is a brand new macbook pro with windows, P3D runs absolutely terrible, because of the mobile GPU. But it was able to run FSX impressively smooth, because it carries an i7 chip. This just demonstrates that a lot of the load went to the GPU which is very good.

One last test made, I downclocked the main dev computer from 4.6ghz down to 3.5ghz and very little difference in P3D, whereas in FSX the clock made an enormous difference. So long the days of spending hours overclocking just for FSX.

Hmmm, oh well, I always have my laptop for charts!

How did you remove the fisheye effect? I have three screens in wideview and its identical to FSX. I know they said there is a way to adjust and remove the fisheye effect.

So what did you do? What adjustment  and where did you make them?

I just checked 'Wide-view Aspect ratio' in settings. I set the zoom to 1.00

There seems to be a typo in his comment as I'm fairly certain he meant to type "...but let you drag panels on it unlike before."

Can I ask what GPU your MacBook has?  I also use a laptop and get OK performance with FSX, so your experience could be useful to me.

Nope, in fsx full screen I can drag a panel, eg gps, to the blank secondary display.

Guys this is a different ball game... Its got some amazing potential.. Lets not throw this under the bus by evaluating with the FSX standards.

I am really intrigued by P3D.

Yes..My FSX is much better than my P3D at the moment...And I am discovering bugs/Issues and opportunities playing with this thing. So I suggest we be patient. No need to unistanll FSX..so you can have some good time with your FSX that you know...while figuring out P3D. Is all.

I managed to add UT2 AI to P3D and it does take a big hit on FPS..its dropped from 20FPS to 9 FPS..with Real Air's Duke V2.

This is EHAM+NL2000...with PMDG 737 it used to give me about 12FPS.

The Fisheye is still there... But is it improved? Hmm.. Not sure.

Rob, yeah.... Me and our 10,000 moderators can do that.

Actually, I think I just saw you raise your had to volunteer as a moderator and do exactly as you suggest. When can you start tonight?

Yes that was me and yes it worked well. I went from 20-23 to 75 but then turned sliders up one at time and settled on 44, then lock them at 30.

Did you change anything in the original cfg before deleting?

If it ain't broke, i fix it until it is...

Anyone:  just installed V2 but am puzzled about what to set AA/AF on now.  I use Inspector for FSX and use some high end AA settings and have fabulously sharp IQ, not so at all in V2--I'm guessing for sure this is just because I don't have V2 set up correctly.  Fine frame rates, but IQ is pretty poor.

RobA, what settings are you using since we have similar parts?

I have been flying sims since FS2K and it is always the same when a new sim comes out there is always a huge debate but the nay-sayers usually come to the dark side when the new platform gains momentum.

Purchased the sim last night and I have really enjoyed it.  I have been tinkering with the settings all day and really impressed the ease of use for changing the settings.  Before I ran the P3D last night I remembered back when FSX first came out just to humble myself and I can honestly say LM has really delivered on this /sim.  Right out of the box the sim flies incredibly smooth and the graphics are very appealing nothing like FSX on the first day.

I later installed FTXG as ORBX offered a free update for previous FSX customers and the scenery was amazing.  I left the frames unlocked and was getting around 45 - 60 FPS in very dense scenery.

I am really excited for the potential of this sim and think within the year this P3D will be a beast of a sim.  As far as the add-ons and developers, that is what I am really looking forward to.  I wouldn't worry about PMDG and others that are holding off right now.  Just like the nay-sayers they will go where the consumers go and money and that will be with P3D in my honest opinion.

John

What it comes down to for me is the following: I have P3D V2 with FTX Global, added Carenado King Air. My settings are pretty high (close to max) except for shadows at 0. I have an older Radeon HD 6870 and even though it ain't perfect, I have flown all day without a single CTD.

I tried adding FlyTampa Montreal and that's when it showed signs of a struggle (FPS @ approx 5-8). I just might go ahead and upgrade to a GTX 760 (and hope I can crank up the settings). But just to fly without OOMs and CTD is a huge plus for me personally.
