P3D V2 my thoughts

Hi Bill,

Friend, don't ever let your distaste and disgust ever control your head or your heart like this. Your life and limb are not connected to Alaine or anyone else in any way, unless you invite and authorize such a thing.

I don't want to sound preachy, and this has nothing to do with either theology or philosophy, and my comments are prompted by neither, but by alarm and concern with your words.

Relax Bill, you are surrounded by friends. It is just that some are a little closer to you than others.

Kindest regards,

Hiya Stephen.. I know..  You should know me by now though.. My emotions sit on each shoulder decorated with Christmas lights and a star on top.. I've never shyed away from just saying what I have to say.. Even outside of the internet world.. I'm usually the guy who will say what everyone is thinking but no one wants to actually say.. :)  I was raised by very open minded parents who always encouraged me to always express myself and never hold back.

Thank you for the kind words and happy holidays!

You are right J, I can also play Crysis 2 or 3 without any tweak at all with sliders to a medium range but I can also play these games with full sliders something you can't do with P3D with a top of the line rig. I remember before V2.0 was released, most here (and you know who you are) were saying that V2.0 would run on a medium range PC with decent perf. including their favorite add on, V2.0 was to be the best thing since beer in a can.

As addman said, V2.0 is tweakers heaven not flyers heaven, if you are a tweaker enjoyV2.0, we can all debate these points for ever but the fact remain that V2.0 was NOT ready for released, FAR from it, enjoy been a beta tester, that is the main reason why I'm sticking with FSX DX10 and I have not buy XP-10 yet, still to many things missing in XP-10 for me.

As this is primarily aimed at professional users who will run it on hardware most of us couldn't dream of owning, I'm not really concerned about setting the sliders to max.  I spent a few hours when I first installed getting my sliders where I felt my performance was optimal, and since then it's been buttery smooth sailing (or flying as the case may be).  And frankly, my sliders are almost maxed.  If I didn't love flying into KSFO so much they would be maxed all the way out.  I suspect when I get a GPU with more VRAM I will be able to overcome even this tiny limitation.

On the subject of whether or not it was ready for release, bugginess with FSX addon's is entirely irrelevant.  What is relevant is whether or not there were bugs in whatever the USAF was running with it, as they and organizations like them are the intended customer.  None of us is able to answer that question, and we ought to be grateful to be taken along for the ride.

We get that you don't like P3D, but as far as I can tell, you have absolutely nothing constructive to contribute to this conversation.  You are simply trolling.

=FSX

Arguably as of 12.22.13 FSX or P3D 1.4 is much more complete as a package, but the upside in V2 looks very favorable and I'm assuming most others w/ strong hardware would agree.  It is so far superior visually & smoothness-wise, to me, it is understandable why some folks here have committed to the platform to the point of uninstalling FSX.  I see no point in uninstalling FSX yet myself as I have the drive space so can keep it, but truthfully I really find flying V2 so much more compelling that I've for all practical purposes abandoned using FSX.   We are banking on the various known issues being systematically addressed by LM in some reasonable time frame.   We are also banking on LM keeping the sim accessible to folks w/o commercial or specific training affiliations, as they have implicitly done w/ the release of V2.  I call V2 accessible since I did not have to prove my use/intentions when I plunked down the $199, despite the EULA language.

Very true. How many of us can afford a NVidia Quadro K6000  graphics card at about £4,400 (US$7000)?

I have called 1.4, the best version of FSX!

I used P3D 1.4 exclusively for over a year, to beta test two major scenery products, and I have to disagree strongly... then FSX > 1.4 and currently FSX > 1.4 > v2... technically 1.4 was a bit of a nightmare, and nowhere near a 'complete' package  I hope things will change for v2 and we can truly move on, but I have my doubts at this point. LM do seem more dedicated than they were with 1.4 which languished, so there is more than a glimmer.

He's just terrible.

+1000000000 and the rest.

I find it odd that someone would appear to be happy (or smug) about a product in their chosen hobby not meeting the expectations of everyone right off. Make your points and move on. LM and 3rd parties will get this product undisputedly to the top of the food chain. Anyone here want to buy my dusty copy of Century of Flight!

Sorry it wasn't great for you. For me, it has been more about flying and less about messing with the sim, and it looks slightly better than my best FSX setup. I am also looking forward to improvements to V2, it's gonna happen. As far as I know, programmers still need paychecks!

..............

I'm astonished at the low expectations some posters have of S199.99 product and the way they excuse its flaws - especially ones that adequate checking should have found.

If they bought a new car which when you started it went to full power and wouldn't respond to the throttle pedal because of bug in the WCU software would they roll over and simply accept it with the lame excuses offered here?

Funny ... that's exactly what my 2-days-old car did many years ago. When I brought it back to the seller, he said "oh right, we will fix it in no time". Two days later they solved the problem: apparently it was a capacitor.

So yes, sometimes (quite often, see for example X-Plane 10) programs are released with some obvious bugs and/or anomalies. The important thing is that the producer stands behind it (again the case with both LM and LR) and  solves the bug.

@Novation, my quote button didn't work in my response to you and it got added to another post. The second paragraph only was my response. Don't want you to take it the wrong way.

No worries  .. regardless, we are all going experience different things, depending on the way we use the tools, or sim, provided. The fact my P3D v1.4 or 2.0 is not great, does not mean someone else's is not. I found 1.4 lacking in some areas, as did the devs I was testing for, though for day to day use it was ok. V2 has too many issues to run it with anything but a default set-up for me, which negates it from a day to day sim. That may or may not change.. more likely it will though.

If he's continued to be allowed to post here I will once again stop using AVSIM.. He.. And he alone is the reason I never contributed to the Prepar3D forum. He was allowed to run around here at free will spitting the same ad nauseam. It was only when I noticed he was `vacationed' and I didn't see his posts everywhere did I finally decide to contribute. He is without a doubt the worst poster I've ever seen and his agenda and crusade is so transparent you could see it with a blindfold on.. He does nothing but derail threads with the same crap he was talking as soon as v2 was officially announced.. I refuse to even acknowledge him by name or even quote his posts.. He's just terrible.

I agree wholeheartedly with your comments and I share your frustrations with this Troll. However, I would hate to see you leave this forum because you have contributed so much and for that I thank you. The other fella?......... well, I suspect another vacation may be on the cards if he keeps it up.

It seems to--you'll recognize the area.  This was done w/ extreme everything pretty much.  At one point, and I missed the screen capture, it hit 5.9Gb:

Why would anyone play a game using a Workstation card? They're heavily optimized for OpenGL and CAD programs. Not playing DirectX games..  A Titan or 780 would dance circles around that card in a gaming environment.  Unless you are working in Maya etc you're doing nothing but flushing cash down the toilet buying a Workstation card to game with.

I think your analogy fails because the seller promptly fixed your car and  didn't expect you to fix it before you could use it.  On the other hand Lockheed Martin hasn't yet fixed my Prepar3D and I had to fix it myself before I could use it.

I'm terribly sorry that Lockheed Martin didn't immediately dispatch someone to your home to make a minor fix that you were able to make very easily.

Why would anyone play a game using a Workstation card?

They wouldn't be playing a game.
