Not playing DirectX games.. A Titan or 780 would dance circles around that card in a gaming environment.

Game? What game?

Ugh... I give up...    This thread is cancer..

I'm terribly sorry that Lockheed Martin didn't immediately dispatch someone to your home to make a minor fix that you were able to make very easily.

Perhaps ADamiani could have fitted a capacitor himself - after all its a minor  fix that can be made very easily?

Why do some people here seem to have such low expectations of software compared with other products?

Maybe because some of us have over 35 years creating the stuff and have realistic expectations.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

I think your analogy fails because the seller promptly fixed your car and  didn't expect you to fix it before you could use it.  On the other hand Lockheed Martin hasn't yet fixed my Prepar3D and I had to fix it myself before I could use it.

Except that:

my car costed me about 35K €,

there was NO easy fix that I could apply while waiting

that the "bug" made my car totally useless

and, last but absoutely NOT least,

that my safety was endangered by that "bug".

I wanted to prove that you are on an "anti-p3d2" crusade. I believe I succeded.

Oh sure, and risk my safety on that.

If your flightsim starts with an open throttle, you need to operate the brakes.

If your REAL car's throttle goes berserk at the wrong time, you may be dead.

I'm sure you can spot the difference.

Anyway, I believe this thread is going nowhere, so I'll leave you folks at your chit-chats and go back flying my smooth 35 fps, solid-fog, dense autogen, wonderful atmosphere, FTXGlobal-enabled, FlyTampa enriched, A2A 172 Trainer.

Oh yes: it's P3D version 2 and I love it!

Take care ......

I don't think anybody should quit Avsim just because they don't like AlainNeedle's opinions about P3D.  He's just a guy on the internet!

That said, the argument over whether P3D is a "beta" or whether it is sufficiently "polished" cannot be won, because it is purely subjective.

You failed. I have Prepar3D installed and have never criticised its functions and features.

My crusade is against the low standards that have become accepted by some in these forums.

Yawn...

I haven't seen that anyone here has ever stated that that feel that P3D2 is perfect.

What I have seen is that there are those of us that are basically happy with P3D and the direction it is headed . . . AND we are content that LM is actively working to get a patch out for most of the issues.

And then there our others here, who put more effort into tearing down P3D, than actually using it.

Currently we only have 3 real choices: FSX, X-Plane 10, or P3D. I personally only have the time and to focus on one of these (even though I own all three), and I find that P3D works the best for me. I bought X-Plane 10 right after I got my new computer, because I was convinced that it was the sim I had been hoping for. I really tried to like it, and I used it until P3D came out.  P3D is just a better sim to me . . . but you don't see my over at the X-Plane forums, tearing down X-Plane.

Aaaaah, wouldn't it be wonderful if the amount of time we spend in a certain sim could be linked to the amount of posts we may post in the sim's forum... ^_^

I used to side with them in some respects (well, not ever AlainNeedle he really is awful), but once it became apparent they are nothing but grievers who argue for the sake of arguing I stopped.. They don't care..  No matter what you say.. How you say it or what language you say it. They will respond with herpa derp that usually makes zero sense in relation to what you were trying to explain.. Trying to talk like an adult with them is like a dog chasing its own tail.

Without a doubt the worst posters, and biggest non-contributors this forum has and two of them don't even own the product..

Oops, been busy for a day or so and this thread has been quite a roller coaster ride.

Always remember needles can easily be blunted, so hang in their, it's nearly Christmas :)

I was about to reply to MGH and am going too but wanted to reply to you first :)

I would just like to clarify a few things in my previous post. I wasn't going after any sim in particular, I'm pro-P3D v2 believe you me! Because really, what else is there? it's just too bad -even though it's a new rendering engine etc. etc.- that it kind of follows in the archaic footsteps of it's predecessors. I will most likely jump on board later down the line when add-ons become compatible and the worst kinks have been ironed out. One thing that kind of worries me is if developers will start charging for new installers, I'm pretty sure a lot of them will and I can see why but I have so many add-ons that I consider essential -both planes and sceneries- and I can't see myself even affording to pay for them again even if it's just a small fee. That is what I'm most "worried" about with P3D. Also, since I have only a "modest" PC (FX-6300@4,4GHz, 8GB RAM, GTX 660 2GB etc...) it seems as if I wouldn't gain much performance wise migrating to P3D so there is basically no reason whatsoever atm for ME to use P3D. Just like Mulder, I want to believe :) but without the card-board personality.

You failed. I have Prepar3D installed and have never criticised its functions and features.

My crusade is against the low standards that have become accepted by some in these forums.

Crusading was carried out by megalomaniacs seeking power, land and conquest in the name of... Who cares lol.

I'm sure your not actually on a crusade but are trying ever so hard to get a certain point acknowledged.

That point however, in the context of the amount of software that has been written is truly pointless.

So, based on that fact, and knowing how long it takes to fully test software, I actually don't give a damn.

I'd rather have my cake now, and the fact the cherry isn't quite in the middle isn't going to stop me enjoying it. Because, I know that the cherry placing machine will be fixed and a new and tastier cake recipe will be released in the new year

Merry Christmas :)

I'll say this much:

Any decent flight sim is NOT a "turn-key" program (turn-key meaning "simple startup and run" operation). To find one that is is to pretty much call it a console game...

When FSX first came out, I had a horrible time getting it to run without OOMs, CTDs and total system crashes. I progressed from AMD-based processors to overclocking Intel processors, from motherboard video chips, to cheap SLI EVGA GPUs, to GTX cards... all the while, I hear "MSFS 2004, or FS2009 is the go-to sim for flight simulations."

But I continued to work at making FSX better... I had great times (had a EVGA Black Pearl Motherboard accept a legacy Intel i7 cpu) when my sim ran over 30 fps, and I had to overcome major setbacks (switched to a EVGA Classified SR2 with twin 2.13GHz Xeon cpus) in the attempts to making not only my flight sim better, but to balance my computer for everything else as well.

Now I am running FSX again flawlessly, fully loaded graphics, high-end payware aircraft, scenery, weather engines, AI traffic and airports, with the recommended FPS settings...  until I see Prepar3d v2 screenshots, videos of in-cabin shadows, volume-metric fog and Iris F-22 Raptor being as part of their starting lineup. Of course I jumped on board... but instead, I installed Prepar3d on a separate, standalone hard drive, just like FSX...

...and when P3D started doing the same thing FSX was doing when I first started, I smiled.

I am not going to spend more money on already a expensive ($5,000 worth of computer hardware) computer system to make one program work. Instead, I am going to wait. For the same FSX tweak tool that fixed FSX for me, also fixed P3D... and in due time, P3D will have its bugs completely worked out and more developers will join in on the party.

Oh by the way... a little interesting thing happened along this journey:

I now have in cabin shadows in a few of my aircraft.... in FSX. How did that happen?
