So is this what to expect with P3D v2 add-on pricing?

Yes, please monitor and moderate. There are too many topics to count in here. This type of uninformative interaction is why I never get on Twitter and Facebook.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

and can assure that the communications/transport data latency is not greater than 300 milliseconds all analog and digital input signals meet the performance criteria established for software performance

My FSX doesn't assure that information.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, and I may well be overruled, but I think this has been a very civil discussion on a controversial topic that has simply evolved through a normal conversational flow.  I suppose I could move it to Hangar chat, but since I've been involved in the discussion, I'll let that decision rest with Jim or Tom.

I take great comfort from other people being angered or disliking what I have to say! Usually means I am on to something. Hasn't ever really steered me wrong in business or pleasure.

I'm glad LM released PD3v2 exactly when they did because my old FSX wouldn't appear to install into Win8. I've since realised that P3Dv2 is a whole new level of immersion and learning, and I live good with the choices I've made (including Win8, which is absolutely fine if you take a day to learn it properly).

For the price of addons: there have always been so many addons which I want but can't afford because I can't afford to scenery up the whole world lol, so many remain out of reach to me, and nothing's changed - it's always been about choices and investment. In a small, specialist community of vendors and customers as we are, best route to happiness I know is to move gracefully and enjoy the choices; the prices are part of the landscape

P3Dv2 has a great future imho

The problem with P3DV2 is that it does not work well straight out of the box and after spending endless hours of building and fine tuning a system both the Hardware and software I don't as I am sure the majority of the average Home simmers don't have the patients or the fortitude to deal with the issues and research the work arounds and aquire the additional knowledge of what to avoid in P3DV2 so as to have a positive flight sim experience when, but for the odd popup here and there and no HDR or Cockpit shadows and no real waves flying low over the ocean they already have with FSX!

Me thinks you weren't around for the launch of FSX, which was a total disaster. It took an entire year for MS to release SP2/Acceleration for FSX to be used without perusing Phil Taylor's blog looking for tweaks to maintain a 20 FPS framerate. Even after SP2/Accel, tech-savvy users such as Bojote had to dig through the program finding tweaks here and there that would help us FSX users have both clear scenery and decent framerates, something which was nearly impossible for quite some time.

Also comparing release dates and hardware; It took probably 5 years for the top of the line hardware to be released to where FSX would run at 30 FPS with most, not all, of the sliders to the right with just the default scenery and aircraft! With top of the line hardware available now, P3DV2 is stable and runs great. Sure, it has it's bugs like the autogen tree bug and HDR black screen bug, but those at least have workarounds and will be fixed within months of the original release.

Hey Rob, those are great vids on your page.  How complex is your process for making them?
Love the Lotus, btw.

Thanks Jeff, the process I use for making my videos is embarrassingly simple (and why I make so many).

1.  Record footage with FRAPS

2.  Edit footage using Adobe Premiere CC (cut out stuff to reduce footage duration, don't want to bore too much)

3.  Add simple transitions from the cuts/edits

4.  Add text titles

5.  Export to YouTube format

Usually takes <30 minutes with the longest wait being the upload to YouTube and waiting for YouTube to finish making the HD quality modes (1080p, 1440p, etc.).

Wrong! I was around for the release of FSX and much earlier version of FS than that. You’re missing my point and that is I am not going through all that again. I got so sick of trying to get FSX to run well I had to go get a pilot’s license so I could I fly.

I have already purchased P3DV2 so I am supporting LM to the tune of $200 already and I have a top shelf system with the latest a greatest hardware and I can tell you for the 2 weeks or so I tried P3DV2 I found the bugs and crashes so frustrating (and that is with virtually no addons installed) that I seriously considered the refund. But I still have it and I have great confidence that LM will fix it.

As I said I know a bunch of you guys have worked around the issues and again I have no statistics but I'd be willing to beat that the vast majority of flight Simmers who have an alternative have shelved it until the patch is released. That doesn't mean they don't support LM or that they are not excited about it. It just means they want to interact with the software via the GUI not by endlessly rooting around in the file system and editing values in .cfg files.

I think some of you guys are so inculcated in that process you wouldn't have it any other way and anyone with a divergent view is a heretic and should be burned at the stake.

Why are you continuing to derail this thread ?

That's why I gave you a thumbs down, fyi.

My intent was not to "burn you at the stake", but rather to contrast the differences in the FSX vs. P3DV2 launch and provide a counter-point to your opinion of the P3DV2 launch and LM's intentions.

FSX was a launch of a substantially new sim. Yes, there was code left over from FS9, but not that much. I can attest to the fact that most of it was substantially re-written and many areas re-designed..

P3Dv2 is an update to P3Dv1 which was little more than a copy of the final edition of ESP -- which itself was an update to FSX Acceleration. It is a progression of updates. One would expect greater performance and reliability as this process occurred.

Comparing apples and pears isn't very useful.

This thread is weird. Let me break it down for you people. What determines the price? The answer is "what people are willing to pay". P3d v2 does not have many dedicated planes and the demand will be there.

Yeah, and what do you think happens when someone starts pricing things in a place where people aren't willing to pay? That's right, they vocalise their objection on forums.

As with any add-on like this, the simply price will be the market will be bear.
