February 13, 201412 yr I just installed the patch and wanted to report my findings. I did not delete the recommended directories mainly because I could not be bothered and I like to spend what little time I get flying rather than configuring. I therefore did not need to re-install anything. Anyway, the bugs (including the very annoying VC click spot issue) is fixed and I like the new start-up screen (similar to FSX). I started at Heathrow with stormy weather in the CoolSky DC-9 with AI traffic high. The sim was soooo smooth on take off. There was not even the slightest stutter - not even a micro stutter. Very impressed. I turned on the FPS counter and it said 16FPS!!! I was shocked. Amazingly smooth with high settings. Anyway, I am going to leave everything on higher settings as I am happy to fly in 15-20 FPS if it is going to be that smooth. I think LM have done an amazing job on the stutter issue and the smoothness of the sim. Its like FSX on 30-40 FPS. Have not noticed the autogen popping. I tend to fly airliners so maybe I am not flying fast enough. Overall very impressed with the patch (so far). Just thought I would post this as most people posting are reporting issues and I wanted to balance it out a bit
February 13, 201412 yr I am still unsure about the patch in some areas of the flight sim.But I too turned on my fps counter to see it only in the high teens and smooth as butter. I honestly thought it was going to say 30. Stephen Asus Z170 Deluxe, 32 GB DDR4 Dominator Platinum, i7 6700k mild overclock, GTX Titan ( Pascal ) Win10
February 13, 201412 yr Commercial Member Yes I find it's a mistake to try to force FSX to run fast, it's better to use the internal Limiter at 19 or less with FSX as well. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
February 14, 201412 yr I agree. 20-30 fps in 2.1 is definitely not the same as 20-30 in FSX. And running with unlimited (which works best to keep the blurries at bay on my system), I can't help but be amazed how much better the sim runs in dense areas with my relatively old hardware.
February 14, 201412 yr Commercial Member Yes, FSXs DX10 is good with pre rendered frames, but DX11 is more efficient still. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
February 14, 201412 yr Certainly there are lot of us watching as more experience builds on 2.1. Please keep up the reports and reviews. February 14, 201412 yr I just installed the patch and wanted to report my findings. OK..Exactly what Sim are you guys talking about since everyone failed to mentioned it? February 14, 201412 yr I can say 2.1 is definitely a leap forward. Allot have been fixed and granted some things have expectantly changed...like the autogen radius. Its tempting to say I liked the previous implementation better, but this sim is so smooth! If changing the radius had anything to do with that, then I can't argue with LM's decision. Also, I still have problems with displaylink support (my 2 7" Lilliput's are dying for some mfd action) but the best thing right now is LM is engaged so there is hope it will be fixed. Obviously, this patch touches on many things, but my favorites are definitely the smoothness of flight, clouds are rendering better...the textures are brilliant (although the engine seems to fall behind a bit loading them - more obvious the faster you fly). This only shows there is more work to be done. So cheers to the LM team.
February 14, 201412 yr I had some issues after just patching. Decided to do a complete install of 2.1 - Well, it took me several hours to get the install to work. Same error, but finally got it installed and it's just working great. I was getting a solid 30fps in v1.4 - 2.0 took them down to an average of 18fps, and at heavy airports, single digits and it just crawled... WELL, lo and behold, I'm getting a solid 37fps - and around 20 in the heavy airports - NO changes in hardware or configuration and it's smooth as silk. No config tweaks yet. Happy camper here. February 14, 201412 yr im happy with my fsx,but perhaps i should try prepar3d,hmm i think i do it i have a gtx 780 card,is it worth it?
February 14, 201412 yr P3D v2.1 runs smooth like silk. I had no problems with the full installation at all. I could move the water, tessellation and cloud distance sliders more to the maximum and enjoy now the great moving waves. LM somewhere suggested to remove the Affinity Mask from the cfg it may help to increase the FPS in some configurations. I tried this and got maybe 2 FPS more in the VC view. Unlimited FPS didn't do any increase so I let it be at 33 locked. Spirit
February 14, 201412 yr 2.1 is the best flight sim I've ever tested. Smooth as butter in win 8.1 with a 780. I can run with sliders one notch from full right and unlimited frames. No crashes or OOMs yet, and the fluidity of the experience is amazing. I want wait for developers to start releasing add ons.
