I'm Disappointed

At first I was thinking two Titans

Good idea.  I think at some point folks might part w/ used Titans, but since Titan does not SLI w/ Titan Black, folks like myself are likely to hang on til used Titans are more commonplace, which they surely will become.  Right now I am hoping we're in the doldrums as far as finding Titan originals go.  I have posted two ads here offering to buy or sell one for $700 but so far no nibbles.  If I sell mine, I'll pick up two Titan Blacks, or if someone decides they can afford that or even the cheaper 780 route or whatever and sells me theirs, then I'll be happy to pick up that second Titan original for $700ish.

I had a fabulous two flights this eve, just amazing.   Had to dial back max dense clouds back one notch, which were never an issue before, but it's really striking some of the visuals around FTX NCA at early dusk.   Very very realistic and I live here.   I think once SLI shows it can add 50% or better it will be worth it for sure.  I rationalize it easily this way:  my whole box was just under $3000 US.   Adding another $700+ to get 50% improvement is pretty good bang for buck.

P3D2.2 has met all of my expectations.  I did a clean OS install and a little bit of dialing in and I'm so happy with it I don't need anything else.  I'm at 5760x1080, three 27in monitors.  Without the fancy cloud and terrain shadows I get a steady 31fps locked using photoreal scenery at LOD 16.5 (yes, LOD_RADIUS=16.500000, and it does function, affinitymask=255, TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=120)  made with FSEarthTiles and a good mesh.  In areas heavy with scenery I've not gone below 15fps even in heavy weather, but it's a smooth 15.  This is the sim I've been waiting for.  I'll need another card to SLI the cloud shadows, halves my fps in heavy weather, but I can wait for that.

Hey, a "little bit of makeup" can go a long way, see below, I'm not just saying this to be funny but I'm trying to make a point

Excellent - so how many times have you had a few drinks, chatted up photos no 2, 3 or 4 and then woken up with photo no 1?  :shok:

I actually like the "before" women, plain as they may be, better than the hussied up "after" version with the fake eyelashes.  I think it cheapens them and makes them something they aren't.

I agree, I've always preferred girls with the more au naturale look. I got the pictures from a Huffington Post article that showed porn stars before and after their makeup, based on their industry I think that "cheap and something they aren't" is the desired effect"

I have recently been visiting this forum and the FSX forums, and there's one thing in common that I have noticed. I was hopping P3D would be much better than FSX ; however it disappoints me to go back and forth between forums and see the same topics: errors, crashes, graphics, fps, problems here- problems there, tweaks here, teaks there. So, what's the point of moving to P3D if it's the same product with just a little bit of make-up? I'm disappointed.

Welcome to the world of computers and software.  As software get more complex with more lines of code and hardware gets more robust with variables in itself there are going to be issues.  I always say that Microsoft could make a flawless Windows product given the resources.  But then the more it costs to produce, the more they would need to charge to recoup their costs.  Who is going to spend $23,000 for a impenetrable, crash free, ******* endorsed copy of Windows 8?

I work for a competitor (sometimes partner) of Lockheed.  It's no different in our industry there's a balance of quality and costs. Flight simulators are not an inelastic good and price plays a factor.  So be it FSX, Xplane, War Thunder, World of Warcraft - there will be crashes, there will be problems and it's up to YOU to decide whether or not you enjoy it enough to overlook it.

You'll find yourself very disappointed in life always looking for perfection.  I flew a friends 172 Tuesday and broke the alternator doing steep turns... I am disappointed that I didn't get to fly it again yesterday because it's in the shop... I should quit flying.

but all of them seem to be going to cost a hell of a huge amount on their LM version, because of the EULA et al

Some perhaps, that is true. But most certainly not "all..." :Shame On You:

On the topic of SLI, does anyone know if there will be Crossfire support as well? Is there a significant difference between the two?

I think his inference that she meant to imply others were therefore stupid, is a misinterpretation.

Either way, how she communicated got responses warranted of the effort OP put into that communication.  Output is very much a result of Input and this thread could have been no other way based on the OPs output.

Ugh, don't tell me that ... I'm heading out to KCCR Saturday for ground school (6 week course then test then instructor flying).  They use 172R ... do I need to do the engine check myself?!

The 172 is a solid aircraft and fun to fly.  I figured since we were torquing it around a bit we knocked on of the wires loose but since it's in the shop now was probably the alternator itself.  Of all the in flight emergencies I would take electrical problems (Minus an electrical fire) over anything.  Because you know you have 15-20 mins to get the plane safely on the ground before the battery runs out and even if it runs out the plane will still fly.  I just recently started flying again and even being rusty I was able to solo fly the 172.

Congratulations. You will remember the rush that you'll get from your first solo for a long, long time.

Is it only me but it seems whenever there is a P3D topic, it's always the same handful bunch commenting back and forth to each other?

A little positive attitude goes a long way too.  Kidz, It ain't about the paint-job, it's how smooth the engine runs.  Sometimes it's how you take care of it and drive it.  Those of you who are married know what I'm talking about.  (Rob you do too regardless, lol)

I am ecstatically happy with P3D2.2 today.  I have figured out how to eliminate the side monitor stretching!!!  It's a little hacky, but I could not get it without 2.2.  I even told my wife I would be celebrating something today.  I'll have details once I get it ironed out.

So their new product took a few months to get the bugs out; this is why you never buy first year of any new car model.   Now we hear "it's not any better than FSX [but admittedly just as good now], so what's the point"?  But this viewpoint narrowly compares things that only "matter" to their simming experience, and pretends other features, that matter to others experience, must be ignored.   But, what really is out of balance: I can't understand how people can compare a product with a team of ghosts behind it who have no development plan to a product with a team of interactive and clearly alive, passionate and committed developers, with a rich development plan.   Which company would you invest in?  That's where you should invest your time [money].

Even if you don't believe the Force is with LM, consider there are no metachlorians in the FSX team, because thanks to the evil MS empire there is no FSX team.  Think of the scene where Vader slays the little jedi toddlers.  LM is your only hope now.  It's not a trap!

David, I don't think it's necessary for you to become offensive with your graphics. The OP is only seeking to understand  why would it be viable moving to P3D. Instead of you explaining why you think it's better (examples), you decided to post a picture of garbage? I'm sure the moderators are seeing your behavior.  comprendes?

A tractor rummaging through a waste facility is offensive now?

My my. I was half expecting to see a US Airways Model airplane Twitter picture for a second there, but nope. Just a tractor running over some empty cans.

I don't use P3D yet. When they release a 64bit version, and after HiFiSim, Orbx and PMDG release some good addons (FTX Australia. Melbourne Brisbane Launceston Cairns etc, PMDG 737, 777, MajesticQ400) then I will probably start moving over. I don't see Orbx/PMDG/Activesky & 4012 size textures working without 64 bit anyway. Hopefully by then NL2000 will be running on P3D too. Then the addon developers can have a field day running VAS sizes into the hundreds, and having a system with 128GB and more of ram will finally mean something.

Just a wake-up call here... 64bit will not make using 4096 textures easier or more possible. It just won't. I have no idea where people get the idea that it will.

Texture size is still primarily impacted by video memory size and access... of which it's not 64bit at all, but rather for PCIe-16 it's 16 serial connections used for access... and then you have to take into account pixel resolution times color depth... and then add in expanded resolutions to support more complex antialiasing... and... well, the video memory requirements grows exponentially and a 64bit program won't make one bit of difference. But... keep on deluding oneself.
