KLGB Long Beach Airport ver4

OK guys, thanks for the feedback. I am trying to keep in touch with feedback while travelling for work so give me some time to troubleshoot this. Most users have found no issues but obviously there is a problem somewhere.

Do you have another KLGB afcad installed that you didn't remove first?

I just installed and I am getting very low framerates, this scenery is heavier on frames than FSDT KLAX!

Shez, how can we remove the static airplanes? I see C17 US library.bgl but where are the static ga aircraft? I'd like to remove them. Thanks

I had already removed the only other KLGB AFCAD present (from Aerosoft Los Angeles) prior to installation of KLGB. I too was getting very low framerates (around 10 or 12 fps) with default aircraft but I did not pay too much attention to them as it was otherwise smooth. I monitored the VAS usage of KLGB and it was pretty high simply sitting on the ramp, but something else in the KLGB addon (?static aircraft) seemed to quickly consume more memory as the VAS usage steadily increased from 3.7 to 4 fairly quickly during take off and climb before the OOM occurred.

As I have said, this is such a pity, as KLGB is quite incredible scenery and a credit to it's designer. Perhaps there is some rogue file responsible that we can hopefully identify - although I don't know much about these things, I understand that a bad texture file can sometimes be responsible for a major memory leak such as I think might be happening here.

Bill

I too have experience abnormally low performance even with default aircraft.

I was just about to post this thinking it was just me....

Yeah I'm losing a lot of performance.  16-19 fps in stock cessna (fps unlimited).  Obviously this is a beautiful custom airport but compared to my ADEX-based photoscenery KDLH airport I lose about 80% of my fps!

Looking into it further... fps degrade over time... and VAS rises - memory leak or something....

I'm running Acceleration, Win7 x64, I have FSDT KLAX with Shez' KSNA and KONT installed too.  No AI traffic.

12-16 FPS with my 3G video card and an i7-2600k. I usually get 25-30 in this area. Very nice scenery though. I'll keep it. Thanks Shez. Bob.

While I am trying to diagnose the problem, I wanted to find out if these very low frame rates are being experienced by every user?

Are there users (like me and most of the beta testers) who have not experienced this?

No problem with framerate for me...locked at 30.  Gorgeous scenery! I have Megascenery Socal and Aerosolft Los Angeles and it blends well with both.  Two problems from me...

  • The ground shimmers quite a bit.  Maybe that's related to the shadow?
  • Two buildings shimmering.  See pic...

No problem with performance here either (FSXsp2, GEX, UTX) with a locked 30fps, averaging 29.9fps.  But, when slewing around over the airport, the ground shadows flicker/shimmer wildly - darker ground areas.  This is noted at dawn (05:44 PDT) with today's date in the sim.  If I switch to daytime (mid-day) in the sim, the ground flickering is still quite noticeable as well, so it does not seem to be a lighting issue.  My PC specs/build can be found in my AVSIM forums profile.

I am betting most users getting low frames have that FSDT LAX scenery. LGB & LAX are so close that fsx renders them both at the same time which will destroy frames. FSDT LAX does a good job of decimating frames on its own.

That sounds like a plausible theory... I have FSDT KLAX and I'm getting very poor framerates with KLGB.

FSDT KLAX is installed and running when I noted my 30fps observation, just above...

The FSDT scenery does not cause a drop as I also have it active.

Could you point to exactly where the ground flickering is occurring. It could be a socal mega scenery issue.

I've never had any Mega Scenery (photo-real) type scenery on my system, GEX & UTX only..  The flickering was basically all over, in patches, more noticeable along the periphery of the airport, but was occurring over the runways and taxiways too.  I do have FSGenesis Mesh running at 2m; could it be a mesh/elevation conflict?

I have fs genesis and that does not cause any issue.

Sounds the same as mine and I don't have FSGenesis.

Low frames for me too(13-17) and I usually lock at 30 everywhere. I think my issue is having FSDT KLAX and Aerosoft cities Los Angeles. Aerosoft citiy does have a KLGB afcad named AF2_KLGB.bgl and I set it to off but that didn't help. With the stock airport I lock at 30fps easily.
