P3D V2.3 Beta 2 Testing

Featured Replies

It wasn't a P3D problem, the Cherokee has never been able to illuminate scenery from the VC view, not in the sense that Lotus Simulations first innovated, or like you could do in the Cessna from A2A. A2A never actually included that type of lighting in the Cherokee, they dropped it because of problems with clickspots stopping working in the VC for a minority of users who used that option in the C172. I hope that they bring it back as an option in the first update that is coming for the Cherokee.

I remember a thread where they were gathering interest on bringing back 3D lighting as an option, is that still going?

A2A weren't gathering interest, users were. Whether it gets the lights brought back I have no idea, but it is a much wanted feature by most flyers (myself included) going by the activity in the thread in question.

Cheers, Andy.

The thread was created by a user, but after it got some replies I think Scott said something like "we'll watch this thread to see how much interest there is".

Hi all!

Nice video, I do not have P3D yet and want to make the move across however I am a tube flyer love the Airbus and big airports with UT AI traffic. Performance in FSX is pretty good at just dips from 30 fps and is smooth everywhere except taxi turns....never seen a cure for this.

Most of the testing I notice for LM P3D just uses light GA aircraft, how does P3D handle the big stuff? Would its be on a par with FSX.

I run a 770 4G GC and oc 2600k at 4.5 what do you think should I make that swap.

Many thanks

My personal take on 3D lights, very hard on FPS if they are true calculated 3D lights and not just a static cone texture with alpha.  The current static cone textures with alpha only really works when you have fog or low visibility and clouds ... during clear weather it looks unrealistic.

I have plenty of videos on big aircraft, L1011, 777, BAe-146 -- I don't have the iFly 737 for P3D ... I do have the Airbus Extended but have not installed it in P3D (I believe they have a patch for P3D v2.x).  I'm sorta surprised more folks aren't flying these larger aircraft in P3D as the extra head room P3D offers in VAS means you can eat your cake (keep the visuals turned up) and fly for 16+ hours without having to worry about an OOM.

Stark contrast to when I used to fly PMDG's 777 in FSX where I had to really dial down the visuals in order to complete any long flights.

Cheers, Rob.

So Rob, how do you land the A2A Cherokee at night at a small, dark airport?

BTW: I totally agree with you on the unrealistic, overly bright effect of "3D lights" . . . I'm just wondering if you have come up with a work around for this.

The 3D cone light doesn't affect ground lighting - it's just an effect ... Ground lighting is independent of this cone effect.

OK . . . then the real problem is that there's no ground lighting with the A2A Cherokee's Landing light. It is impossible for me to land it at night at small, unlit runways, or to even taxi to a runway at night.

Oh, we've moved from C172R to Cherokee ... I'll test in beta, but i thought ground illumination was working in the cherokee in 2.2?

Thanks Rob,

I'm using P3D v.2.2 and I'm still in the dark with the Cherokee.

Perhaps this is not an issue for others. if so, I would really like to know what I'm doing wrong, as I haven't make any changes to the A2A Cherokee files, or even added any other paints.

As requested by someone (Arwen?) ... Windsocks appear to be work in P3D v2.3 Beta 2 ... ObjectFlow isn't working for P3D V2.3 beta so can't test out the Windsock for Orbx payware airports but for the other airports the Windsocks are working well:

Cheers, Rob.

Here is a quick video showing A2A's C172R and Cherokee in P3D V2.3 Beta 2 ... it also shows the improved global night lighting (at least I think so) ... aircraft are no longer so dark at night.

I'll take my words back on the C172R lights ... I do prefer them over the Cherokee.

Cheers, Rob.

Un-real video Rob, for many sequences there my eyes got fooled. Didn't know if they where seeing RW or sim   :P

How about that water...Mine looks nothing like that :( 2.3 improvement? I use REX4 and I'm assuming that's default because your testing the latest build?

Agree wholeheartedly with yorgosGK, the water looks goood! I like the reflections on the water, even more.

Outstanding performance as well frame rate wise, Rob, your C172R is gonna need some new rubber boots.

You're a good man, Rob - you left the stall warning in the last video to show you are human after all...

The lights on the 172 are amazing - they work *everywhere*!

Waiting for 2.3 to come out to make the jump (from 1.4). Looks like a good time to move based on your video reports.

Thank you, Sir!
