July 17, 201510 yr Commercial Member I'll bite... Photoshop? Hi Bert, no it is real and you can find out how to do it by going the the ASN section here at AVSIM forums and looking for the thread about weather gauge. To make it work with the GTN 750 you will have to overlay the gauge onto the 750 but that will make all features of that gauge not work. I have two in the Duke so I used one of them for the weather gauge overlay. You can use other glass gauges instead and another thing, you need to have ASN active for the gauge to work. In the thread they talk about and give advice on putting it in several popular aircraft. It is easy to install with great instructions and works very well. July 18, 201510 yr I asked about this on the Flight1 forum and was told something about being positioned south of an imaginery line before the initial fix in the approach. Otherwise the Garmin cannot find the fix and it goes into SUSP. There seems to be no way out of SUSP either. You got me thinking, so I had a quick search of the Garmin Trainer pilots guide PDF. If Vectors-to-Final is activated while on the “FROM” side of the FAF, automatic waypoint sequencing is suspended and the SUSP annunciation will appear. Automatic waypoint sequencing will resume once the aircraft is on the “TO” side of the FAF and within full-scale deflection. Does that make it any clearer? Neil Andrews. July 18, 201510 yr Commercial Member Thanks again Ebs, looks like another interesting route I will try. Even a Duke involved, cool. July 18, 201510 yr That's the absolute basics. You're never too old to learn You're gonna *love* learning how to read the charts! I found, that even when I was young, that i just didn't care for charts & IFR. I'd spend half a lesson with foggles, remove them, and then head into the hills. I preferred mountain flying, which didn't usually coincide with IFR flying. For mountain areas, GPS along with terrain databases & satellite weather, was one of the best inventions ever. Now I'm old, and still don't care for SIDs & STARS. When someone is really into IFR for real life flying, they need to keep current & file & fly a lot of IFR routing. Where I'd go, those routes usually don't exist.
July 18, 201510 yr I made the original video earlier in the thread based on the fact that you could buy a more complete version of the trainer from Garmin containing World Wide Terrain data. After the v5 Garmin Trainer release, it wasn't necessary as the world wide terrain was now included as default in the trainer. A little later I made a better video which is now linked to from the F1GTN product page. I just watched Neil's video and it is excellent. I have not adopted the F1 GTN(s) yet because as far as I know I only own one model (Milviz Baron B55) that provides a custom panel installation, and that requires both the 750 and 650, or (2) 650's. I am first interested in the 750. Neil does a nice job in the video of providing a recap of the aircraft models with custom panel incorporation. It appears the video is from April 19, 2015. July 18, 201510 yr have a single GTN 750 installed in my Milviz Baron... also look here for inspiration: Hi Bert, from what I read about the MIlviz add-on panel it appears you did this yourself for the B55 and Carenado B58? Automatic waypoint sequencing will resume once the aircraft is on the “TO” side of the FAF and within full-scale deflection. Does that make it any clearer? Thanks, Ebs, but no it doesn't. If someone could define what the FROM side of the FAF is, as opposed to the TO side, it would be a start. And what exactly is 'full-scale deflection'? Deflection of what? To my way of thinking if you are going TO the FAF then you are on the TO side. If you are on the FROM side, then you are going away from the FAF and have no need of an approach. This link says it all about the GTN750 as I have found it so far. I understand that others find it easy to use and that's fine. I wish I was one of them! http://www.simforums.com/forums/susp_topic52872_post330816.html?KW=susp#330816 In that thread towards the end, Tiberiu made the point about being south of an imaginery line before the SUSP notice could be UNSUSP'd. That suggests that only flights from the south side of this imaginery line can activate an approach. That cannot be correct. I made another flight this afternoon and the same thing happened again. It always happens. If anyone would like to check it out, I'd be grateful. This is the last part of the route: Alt. 7000ft, 10nm NW of LWB VORDME, heading 150 deg towards LWB, final destination KROA, Roanoke. Select RNAV Approach to Rwy 24 KROA, and activate. When I do this, the GTN goes into SUSP, and the aircraft makes a right turn away from the first waypoint on the approach. As I say, it happens every time with the GTN750 and never with the RXP. John

July 19, 201510 yr If anyone would like to check it out, I'd be grateful. Alright, what you describe over on the simforums (missed approach 'imaginary line') and here are two separate things (but are somewhat related). I'll try and explain whats going on, so thanks for posting the flight plan info. Makes it easier for me to recreate. I made a picture to illustrate it. 1. At location you described. 2. Select RNAV Approach to Rwy 24 KROA 3. Load and Activate. 4. Result is that sequencing is SUSPENDED I believe this is what happened to you? If this is the case, this is supposed to happen. It's not a bug, it's by design. The reason? your transition is set to ATC Vectors. In the real world, at this point you would be given vectors by ATC to your final approach course (The magenta line in picture 2) at which point you would unsuspend and the GTN would take over. Try the approach again from the same position and select a different transition such as HOBOS. Activate the approach and this is what you'll see... No SUSP, the gtn will fly you along the path and everyone's happy (No ATC will be involved) Is that clear? Now for the second issue. The Missed approach "imaginary to/from line" thing. We'll use KROA again. Lets say you approached the airport from the southwest, intending to land at runway 24 with the same RNAV Approach to Rwy 24 1. Load and activate the approach (with ATC Vectors Transition) 2. click unsusp 3. you get a MISSED APPROACH box Again, this is intended. You're on the WRONG SIDE of the Runway 24 approach and "UNSUSPENDED" too early. remember, with ATC vectors you would only unsuspend when ATC has vectored you onto your final approach course (which wouldn't be 5 miles southwest of Runway 24!) Because you're on the wrong side, the GTN assumed that you must have entered the missed approach phase and that's why the box pops up. Once again, try the approach from the "wrong side" of the airport but select a transition. Again, no suspended sequencing. Does this help at all? Neil Andrews. Fight or Flight - YouTube | Twitter
July 19, 201510 yr Um ive got a silly question, when using the GTN 750 and i hit the Nearest airport button, when i find the airport i want, i click on it and it just shows my information, is there a button you press to activate the new route and a nice arrow pointing you to your new location ? There is an Enter button but it doesn't do anything.
July 19, 201510 yr is there a button you press to activate the new route and a nice arrow pointing you to your new location ? Yes Elaine, while you're looking at the airport info, click the physical DIRECT TO button on the right hand side of the GTN (D with an arrow going through it), then the Activate touch button. July 19, 201510 yr GPS mode. Next fix LWB VORDME. It is all in my post. LWB isn't a fix on the RNAV 24 though. How did you load the approach? Which IAF did you select?
