GTN 750/650

Featured Replies

I dont mind that, I do it allot in the f1 B200.. but...  it sucks to draw up a flight plan, only to "re-enter" it by hand when I got the whole thing saved right there on the same computer. In RW, I'd have the SD card with the flight plan, and load it on the plane.

No biggie. I'm sure sooner or later someone will support it.

I think the main reason is because both RXP and F1 use actual Garmin trainers for the simulation, whereas the F1 G1000s are actual FSX 'gauges' operating within the confines of FSX.   You can download these same trainers from the Garmin website for your own practice.  I remember using the same Garmin GNS430 training program when I was flying Seminoles at ERAU.  Since the trainers operate outside of FSX for the most part, they are unable to import any flight plans.  Even then I remember the GNS430 needing a lot of 'dialing' entry, such as having to manually dial in the ILS identifier in order to get 'DME' from that ILS.

I don't think the Garmin trainers will ever be able to import FSX flight plans since that would require F1 to actually alter the Garmin training program itself.

Cheers

Yep did that but no luck.  I uninstalled the Garmin software and the F1 software and reinstalled my configs so now I can use the 500 again.  I thought that I had read all the info but will give it a rest for awhile now as I'm a bit burnt out on the experience.  LOL

I read as much as I could about these gauges and am thoroughly impressed.  So I bought the 750 - installed the Garmin Trainer software, installed the 750 and reconfigured the panel in the REALAIR Turbine Duke V2 panel tool.

The gauge shows up in FSX but a) cannot be turned on and B) crashes FSX.  (I can't run the F1 Mustang either so I'm pretty sure that it is something with my machine.)

Uninstalling both the Garmin software and gauge allow me to use the default 500 GPS again so I'm happy for now.

I would check the Garmin GTN Trainer you downloaded .. verify it turns on an works.

Then try : configure Duke to start with engines running .. fully powered, all switches set (BAT / avionics etc)

GTN should come up powered (gets its power from one of the buses)  and ready to click its Continue button.

jjjallen,

For any aircraft that you add the F1 GTN750 to the panel in, ensure that you have a ",UNIT1" entry after the gauge line in the panel.cfg.     Without this, the unit will turn on.

Eg:-

gauge09=F1GTN!GTN750,  3,113,503,473,UNIT1

If that does not solve your issue;  did you install the GTN750 after the RealAir T-Duke 2.0  ?    I found I had to have the F1 GTN installed first (before the T-Duke) in this aircraft for it to work.

Flight planning had me perplexed at first but with a pair of GTN 750's in the Duke I put up the flight plan page on one and the map page on the other and use the map pan feature, so far so good. Smaller planes may not have panel space to allow this I guess.

The "Graphically Edit Flightplan" is probably my favorite feature.  You don't need to manually enter in any waypoint but can instead pan around the map and click on waypoints to add them.  When you click on an airway intersection it will ask if you want to fly the airway or fly to that waypoint.  You can also click on different airspaces and it will give you the altitude restrictions and frequencies for that airspace.

EDDF-LOWI very nice ride this morning.

The GTN's vertical descent profile from CRZ (20K) to TULSI worked great followed by a great DukeV2 ILS approach.

Thanks Craig.

So I said that the gauge crashes FSX - that's not totally true.  But first while I've been playing on the trainer I was anxious to get this thing in the bird.  To be honest - I'm a bit grumpy because I bought 3 online items recently and none worked out of the box Grrrrrr.

So the Issue I need to figure out is EZDOK - the bane of my existence.  It crashes on load.  Since I use FSXAssist I can move it around a bit as far as loading and OS priority but it is very finicky.  As in VERY and with the 750 loading... well it is all about timing.

I expect that, but if you can save (after manual entree) a flight plan and use it again , then that means there is a file somewhere for it. Flight planners could add that format to their file type support, and wa-la. Sorta like the Eaglesoft Citation X... although it can import FSX native plans, it also has it own flight plan file type.

I really dig the thing... but I'll wait a little while to see what springs up for it in the future. I wonder if Garmin is looking at all those downloads all of a sudden, and thinking to themselves  "Hey... there's some revenue sitting in the sim market!"

I can run the Garmin 750 Trainer  and FSX at the same time with no problems.  If I install the gauge I get this error every time the gauge tries to start - in the end it NEVER can.

I hope you are not running the Trainer and FSX at the same time... if you are, try FSX by itself.

I've been playing with this myself and it appears those flight plans are stored in C:\ProgramData\Garmin\GTN Trainer in the GTN*nonvol folders. In my case anyway it appears that GTN1nonvol contains data from the actual Garmin trainer, GTN2nonvol contains data from the in-sim GTN750, and GTN4nonvol contains data from the in-sim GTN650. What I did is made a couple flight plans and saved them using the standalone Garmin trainer, then I closed the trainer and copied the contents of GTN1nonvol into the other 2 folders overwriting the existing files. When I loaded the aircraft into the sim the new flight plans I'd made were available in the catalog area of both units and I simply loaded them and flew.

I don't know if there could be ramifications, I can say that it worked in this case and I flew one of the flightplans I'd made in the sim without any problems and everything seemed normal. I also saw a post on the GTN forum where the developer suggested deleting those two folders to solve an unrelated problem another user was having so I figured worst case scenario I'd delete them if anything went wrong and start over. I did make a thorough backup of the entire ProgramData\Garmin folder before messing with anything and I'd suggest anyone attempting this should do the same just in case.

That said, my left engine blew up enroute on that flight and everything literally went to KRAP so be warned!

I caved....lol  This is coming from someone who still uses a flip phone, I am not normally one to always leap after the newest 'redundant' technology.  Actually if you think about it, the RXP - GTN is very much like going from a flip phone to smart phone.  If all you do is make phone calls and the occasional text message, there is no reason for a superduper smart phone, but if want to do all the latest stuff, you have to get with it and get a smartphone.

I see the A2A C182 and Turbine Duke as my virtual GA future for now, at least until other A2A/RealAIr addons are 'GTNed',

I got the 650 and am also trying the 750, tho I think I will return the 750 as the 650 is quite sufficient for me since I have dual monitor setup and access to Skyvector charts/maps.  I see the second monitor as the equivalent of having an IPAD or something in the cockpit.

I'd keep the 750 and return the 650 - better situational awareness, easier FP entry (I have second monitor too I never touch the GTN charts - they're out of date anyway)
