[24JAN15] FSX:SE Compatibility and Other Juicy News...

Featured Replies

Awesome news on P3D progress!

Looking forward to retire the crap Captain Sim 777 and fly the great PMDG aircrafts again!

No kidding. People keep complaining about the speculative prices and, even at $500+, it'd still be less stressful and money well spent when compared to the CS. What a piece of junk.

Hi

Just wanted to let people know what has worked for me. My setup is as follows;

Formatted and clean windows 8.1 install.

New FSX:SE install with the latest pmdg full installers as of the 25th.

The result was not being prompted to activate the pmdg products when selecting them. As well as blank screens, gear up and not being able to interact with the switches/controls.

I followed Steve's suggestions and installed the three SimConnect MSIs.

  1. Installed ALL simconnect MSIs in this path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces.
  2. Rinse, lather repeat steps 1-3 (with reboots smattered in between all steps.)

A very short test run within FSX:SE. I was asked to activate my pmdg aircraft and the 777 2LR appeared to be working as intended.

This was only a short test. I have not tried out any liveries etc but the major faults seem to be resolved.

Thank you Steve and pmdg

ehhhhhhh...whattttttt.....dont get it.....all in all I am a idiot..I dont see whats going on here......I own pretty much all PMDG products...never have issues....this one is getting my nerves...sorry but the new and only installer link in my account for 777 base and expansion is NOT taking me anywhere..."NOT VALID FSX INSTALLED" ( that is true since I dont have FSX installed..:)..)

You have the sadly common Registry issues, concerning FSX and FSX:SE.

My advice would be to uninstall FSX:SE, then google, download and use "TweakFS FSX Registry Utility" (free) to delete all of your FSX registry entries.    Then re-install FSX:SE.

I particularly going to do that today....uninstall steam/FSXES  and run the Tweak Registry since I did have FSX installed before ....not only the Operation center don't allow me to download liveries.....and also crash in a flight from KLAX to KSFO....something related with visual C +++..off curse I have all my updates and all those visual C++ 2013...bla bla bla.....the rest of the  777 stuff works perfect....but something is bothering the registries I guess...and yes I submitted a ticket...

Thanks

Pedro

Ecstatic to hear you got it working as well Alex!  This seems to be the "Magic bullet" for FSX:SE lone installs....seems Dovetail added the simconnect MSI installers (Thank you for at LEAST doing that), but never ran them as part of the main FSX install routine.

PMDG worked with me and mentioned that they will engage DT and see if they can be installed by default.

I guess DT never imagined the amount of sim veterans that would try their version, probably relying on a new fan base as their main source of income.  Most of those new folks would probably never get past flying the default aircraft around for a bit before they got bored and put FSX away to go kill orcs, trolls, enemy combatants and the like.

Not knowing enough about how the back end works, it appears that those simconnect modules are vital for out favorite vendors, who've taken the default FSX way past what Microsoft ever intended.

Now if I could just figure out why I get an apphang error whenever I try to start Rex Soft Clouds!

Steve Dra

I can confirm. I installed the 4 version of Simconnect library that came with FSX:SE and now  its working in Win 8.1. I still lose my controller but FSUIPC took care of that problem.  I know DTG can fix it because P3D did it. They have their own simconnect library.

It's really a pity that such a wonderful aircaft has a really annoying bug in the go around thrust that could have been addressed in SP1d and wasn't. Sorry if I insist on this but it's an important feature, when I want to do a go around, press TOGA but thrust remains in SPD and the aircraft doesn't climb, there is a big risk of crashing into the ground... I submitted a ticket but haven't had a positive feedback, yet. I have been testing that for 20 days, now, and I am 100% sure it's a bug, I hope it is taken into consideration... Thanks.

I'm a user of FSX-SE (onle SE) and I've no products from PMDG

What should I buy/download to get the 777 fully updated and functional with my sim??

Thank You

You'll note that there are absolutely ZERO additions to this SP. It was put together just so people could use the aircraft in another simulator. Taking time to address concerns outside of making the aircraft work in the sim wasn't even in the scope of our concern.

I don't think anyone can fault us for that.

Well, in fact I thought it was something introduced with SP1 that could be easily corrected and can't understand how beta testers did not detect it, neither in SP1 nor in SP1b and c...

Obviously you're not trying to win any followers or make friends with  beta testers. That's okay, I noticed your threads on the subject was subject to much discussion before a consensus was obtained, I don't feel badly about missing this little piece of trivia.
