February 13, 201511 yr Maybe we spend far too much time getting 'Analysis Paralysis' in trying to prove something to someone, instead of actually flying for enjoyment!! Exactly. February 13, 201511 yr I've only seen subjective comments so far in this thread. Using my subjectivity, Ive come to this conclusion. We now have three simulators in circulation which originate from basically the same code. Simulator 1 will run but to make it run better it needs to be tweaked. The people tweaking it have varying degrees of ability and knowledge of their own machines and therefor, the results are variable. No ongoing development exists. In order to successfully market to a new customer base and make it viable simulator 2 needs to be tweaked and have some major crash issues corrected. This needs to be done in one place as your new customer base is inexperiencd and expects everything to work out the box. It's common knowledge that if you ask 10 people to input something you'll get 15 different inputs. Therefore you hard code it so the input is the same for everyone. I'm sure the developers are proffesional and they need to establish a track record. Simulator 3 has gone through this process and been extended further. All tweaks that are known to work have been published giving users the choice to customise it's use as they see fit. In addition, development is ongoing by a proffesional company. Basically, as a community we have more choice now than we ever had. We can tailor our purchase according to what we desire.

February 13, 201511 yr Now, tell me who is right. No one. It's a known fact that FSX-SE has been built with modern compiler and have a few things fixed. Whether anyone see any difference depends on the individual setup, but that single fact does not change. There are ample of tests being done to prove the gain or not gain. The only relevant test is the test done by the individual who want to know to do it himself. Bottom line, if you bought the steam copy during last Christmas sale for 5 bucks, then it only cost you 5 bucks to try. If not and your FSX is working fine for you, stay there. The endless looking for proofs will just yield more things for you to look to confirm what you want to know or not know. Frankly, I wonder why this thread has not been locked already. February 13, 201511 yr +1 for the above comments. You want to have a great sim? Then FSX:SE with it's 5x DLC's is great for you. That is how it is packaged by Steam! ..It's a Steam package, with Steam addons. Yes, we know other stuff will work, but it's a simple plug 'n play package, distributed by a company that excels in that kind of marketing, no more, no less. Methings, now I'm pot stirring, the payware devs out there see an additional market for them? Testing, throwing all kinds of stuff at it is pretty much irrelevant. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... February 13, 201511 yr Moderator This is of course true. Many have seen improvements, many have not. Ultimately arguing scientifically or not for either case is pointless because differences are inevitable due to the variety of systems and configurations, that is a fact. The wise man will enjoy the sim for what it is. I could not agree more. In fact, two years ago I bought two identical computers for my development testing, and installed precisely the same software on both... ...yet while one machine ran FSX smoothly with consistently high frame rates, the other ran raggedly and with wildly varying frame rates. Outside of FSX though, both machines achieved nearly identical scores with benchmark testing. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
