Simply giving up...

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Patience has ended. Just ended for the PMDG 777 around Europe. I could make a default BIKF-Keflavik from default CYYT-St Johns. I drive FedEx VA and used to flew around USA and Caribbean rather successfully using this forum suggestions, in legs of no more than two hours. But I just cannot fly to Aerosoft's EDDK, even following each and every rule stated in the forum's CTD and Configuration guides. In my last try, FSUIPC alarm started ringing 30 minutes before landing - that's enough for me. My machine is i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 16GB RAM, W7-64 and an NVidia GTX780 + NVidia Inspector settings + DX10 Fixer. I did not invest in it to fly three hours and receive a frustrating OOM, spoiling a whole Sunday afternoon.

Except the PMDG 777, any, and I mean ANY, aircraft flies hours in this dedicated for FSX machine, flavors varying from A2A Cessnas, PMDG NG737, Majestic Q400, Alabeo various, Milviz B350i (Alpha). All of these working full without the need to make any of the CTD tweaks documented in this forum. I have almost all of FTX Orbx paid and free software and for these aircraft I never had to turn off any scenery.

So, from now on, I will abandon my dear FedEx Panda 777 until some brilliant mind resolve this problem. It is simply ridiculous that a plane made to fly legs of at least 10 hours has a one hour limit before we run out of memory. Sorry folks, but I also feel ridiculous taxiing this bird on a default Dusseldorf or Oslo tarmac.

Best regards,

Heron

Not sure what's going on here for you.  I just did a CYUL-LFPG , 6 hrs flight without a hitch and using ASN weather.  When I landed, VAS was 2.5 GB for me.  I only had ORBX Global and Vector.  I don't use DX-10 fixer at all.  Do you have many add-on sceneries? Try disable them all excepted the ones you fly.

You're not alone Heronjr.   I pretty much as SOP must do a save before TOD and reload FSX and the flight,  that gets me to the gate.

Get ride of FTX Orbx! Why use land scenery in a 777? You are flying at high altitude.

I use the NGX, ASN, UTX Europe, REX4D and about 6 payware airports i only fly too. I hate the default airports.

And i have that VAS OPTION enabled in FSUIPC and it only shows i have only used 1 GB and thats after 7+ hrs of flying :) and no crashes.

Try FSX-SE.

Try FSX-SE.

Why? Seems to crash just like FSX. There is no real difference.

Not for me. It's stable and smooth so far, with ORBX FTX Global, and the PMDG 777 200 and 300, RealAirs, Carenado B1900d, Majestic Q400.

I also use it with Aerowinx PSX - again smoother and CTD-free compared to my previous experience with FSX Gold ( GFWL install ).

So far, none of the P3D versions I tried gave me the same stutter-free experience, and I had problems with P3D as a visuals generator for PSX, so, at least for me, FSX-SE was a blessing :-)

In my case another factor that probably contributes to the additional smoothness, and better graphics quality, is also the use of DX10 mode, through Steve's Fixer.

Definitely a little weird...

I use the FS Dreamteam KORD and I use FSGRW, no land textures etc, with another payware airport here and there.    I never get OOM and I fly the -200LR on legs of 16 hours or more.   Definitely something in your setup mate.

Kind regards

I hope the OP and other ones in the other CTD Topics in the CTD Forum are reading these posts about no problems with FSX-SE. They surely think their crash problems are a problem with FSX-SE and Dovetail and not their configurations. CTD's are frustrating though and, when one gets one, it's no fun trying to figure out what caused it.

All of these working full without the need to make any of the CTD tweaks documented in this forum. I have almost all of FTX Orbx paid and free software and for these aircraft I never had to turn off any scenery.

Not sure what "CTD tweaks that are documented in this forum" you are talking about. There are no CTD tweaks that work other than lowering your fsx-se.cfg and display driver settings. Maybe that's what you are talking about. The only recommendation we made about turning off unnecessary scenery is photoscenery. Regular scenery, like FSDT airports, Flightbeam airports, FTX/Orbx stuff, etc., can be left enabled. That stuff will be loaded only when you are in the "radius" of the flight simulator's area of operations. Photoscenery will load all over the world no matter where you are flying and will definitely take up a massive amount of resources so you only want the photoscenery enabled for your flight plan. FTX/Orbx places some .bgl autogen files in the main scenery/world/scenery folder that is sometimes not disabled when you disable scenery through their utility and that autogen will load no matter where you are in the world too but it is basically harmless.

If you want to monitor what is being loaded while using FSX-SE or any other sim, try our recommendation for employing the Process Monitor on page 4 of the AVSIM CTD Guide.

Try FSX-SE.

That has to be a joke given its repeatedly G3d.dll and terrain.dll CTDs!

Well, really not my experience, so, not a joke but rather a friendly advice... even if not understood as such by some forum members...

I tend not to tell people to do exactly what I wouldn't do, as I tend to give my advice based on my own experience, looking forward to see them prove useful. I believe that's the spirit around here ?

VAS use is horrible in the 777.  Loading up EGLL V3 and the PMDG 777 i have about 1.3Gb left.  Try lowering your LOD, mine is set at 3.5, if you have REX use the lowest quality clouds, dial back the cloud layers, maximum of 3, turn down the AI traffic around 15%, turn off any road / boat traffic.  As suggested above turn off FTX.

Hi Jim,

I am talking about the two guides offered by the the forum (CTD and Configuration). I've read them and follow most of their directions conforming my system.

What is FSX-SE??? I use pure FSX + Acceleration Pack. My rig is quite big and I don't even think in change or reinstall this thing. It always runs SMOOTHLY with high framerates - the only problem here is finish a PMDG 777 flight.

As I said, I followed each and every suggestion for FSX/P3D good practice avoiding CTD/OOMs, so, of course, I turn off all addon airports not in use using Scenery Configurator.

Someone said I fly a 777 so I don't need FTX, but he uses UTX-Europe!!!??? Sorry, but I like to see from above well formed geographic items as they are and on the correct places as rivers, lakes, mountains, and coastlines. Have you ever took off from Keflavik, Iceland, ALDA1 SID, in a clear day following the coast to SE using a vector software or specific Iceland scenery? See my point?

Another reply (Vu Pham) claims a VAS of 2.5 GB after a haul from Canada to France. Mine here gives me less than 300 MB on approach after 2 hours flying. Clearly, there must be something eating up my memory. Vu Pham and I as any other simmer has strictly 4 GB to do whatever one wants in FSX.

If you want more information here they are:

ASN Weather

REX Texture Direct + Soft Clouds (integrated pack)

Referenced Flight: BIKF-EDDK (BIKF default to Aerosoft EDDK) ALL OTHER AIRPORTS TURNED OFF!!!

FS2Crew 777 (Button)

PMDG 777 Cargo Fedex Panda

VAFS5 (to log my Fedex hours)

FTX Global + Vector + OpenLC Europe + most US airports

Antivirus: Microsoft Essentials (cannot be turned off)

Dropbox, Free Download Manager, NVidia Monitor, CCleaner all turned off before FSX

Thanks for all and best regards,

I did not mean your advice in particular was a joke. Far from it. You're indeed being helpful and constructive, and it is applauded.

What I meant as from my own experiences with repeated CTDs caused by the infernal terrain.dll, which others have also experienced, FSX-SE was a joke to me as it currently stands.

Comprehendo?
