Affinity Mask 14 is back and I found out why.

Featured Replies

This morning I went to fly my A320 on a VA flight, because now my problem with the blurries caused by Affinity mask being placed in my P3D CFG has been taken care of because I deleted it.  I started P3d, and the first thing I noticed is that GSX did not load. Where it usually shows up in the list of add ons, it was not there. The only thing there was the add on manager. So I opened it and selected GSX and figured I was OK.

I then flew a short flight, and I noticed the blurries again on approach. I landed, and opened the config file and guess was , Affinity Mask=14 was back like poltergeist.  Now I am ready to throw  my computer out the window, I am so angry.  =@

So I delete the entry again, and restart P3D.  Hmmm,   no GSX again.  So I go into the add on manager and this time I look at the settings, and I realized that I had not noticed the settings on the right side before. Here is the page

So it appears that, whether you like it or not, this ad on manager will tweak your P3D Cfg file and there isn't a damn thing you can do about. All you can do is change the settings that it uses for the tweaks.  For instance, I I played around with the affinity mask settings, and realized that I could not disable the entry, all I could do was set it to zero. Well what effect will zero have on the behavior of P3D? I don't know, does anyone else know? Are all these other changes in the CFG file good changes. I have read that tweaks to P3D are not needed, so why are there over a dozen tweaks that you have to accept in order to use GSX or or I would suppose any other add on that this company makes?

If I have one more problem with blurries, GSX is going in the dumpster.

Bob, I've been following your problem in your other thread. I have pretty much the same addons as you, but have no Affinity Mask entry in my config file. GSX and all other addons that use the Addon Manager run just fine.

Soooooo... does BobSk8 have a supernumerary hidden login that allows some guy in Russia to alter his P3d.cfg, and fly his simulator via Splashtop remote while he's asleep?

i use the same tool as long as you dont save settings in that tool it should not install any updates to your p3d settings.  remove the affinity again and dont modify any settings using that tool should be fine.

I am guessing that you haven't downloaded and installed the latest update for the Ad on manager which was released around 9-8-15. Do that and then let us know what your config file looks like the next time you run the ad on manager. You can see the changes that will be made in my screen shot above.

Just got a response back from the GSX forum and they agree with what you are saying . Here is the link to their response.   http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,12511.0.html

I made had clicked the save to P3D button thinking that it was necessary to get GSX running again, but apparently not. I suggested they clarify this selection  and what it does, in their GUI.

Hmm... now that you mention it Bob, I did see an update the last time I started up P3D (Sept 13). I just ignored the update coincidentally. :Whew: I don't wanna update it now. I just re-installed my sim and all my addons earlier this month; I JUST got everything stable and running well.

You should put this on the FSDT forums. Maybe they can do something.

That's not true. I sent Umberto a message so that he can respond to you and clear up any misconceptions of what it does and doesn't do before more misinformation is spread.

I did just that, and posted the response that I got. At least I know why this  is happening and how to avoid it.  http://www.fsdreamteam.com/forum/index.php/topic,12511.0.html

The latest update to GSX still won't add any funky tweaks to your cfg unless you tell it to. It's save to use as long as you are safe to be using it.

I understand that. Poorly documented. I just had to start P3D 4 times to get GSX to show up in the add on menu. Why is that?

Poorly documented? It's incredibly plain and simple as it is. Why on earth would the Save to P3d button restart GSX?

My best guess as to "I just had to start P3D 4 times to get GSX to show up in the add on menu. Why is that?" is that in the rush to get P3d restarted and going again, you didn't give p3d enough time to totally shut down. Give it a good minute or so to be sure. You can even check your Task Manager to make sure that Couatl isn't running anymore before launching the sim again, if it is close it out manually.

I guess you must be a lot smarter than I am.   ..

This is a good tip.  I have a habit of watching P3D shutdown in Process Explorer and it takes a lot longer than you'd expect. Couatl doesn't shut down until a few moments later.  The habit is due to the save/restart cycles I go through to reset VAS on long flights.

I have no problems either with the Addon Manager. Always go to the Couatl Addon item in the addon menu instead of addon manager, you can reset Couatl from there. There are times when it starts and doesn't recognize any AFCADs but that is because the files were alread in use by the already running Couatl engine.

I/we did try to help and other tried telling you it does not do it on its own, also pointed you to that very window. But you just did not lesson and now...well. Like I've suggested many times rebuild your config and build a new one.

You only ever need to goto that window then you active a new airport etc.

Hope you how have it sorted now!

Looks like even if you started in the 80's you can still learn if you lesson.

O well live and learn.

Any FPS hits and blurriness and problems first thing to try=Delete you config. I bet you still have not?

Its frustrating to take the time to try and help someone and they just dismiss it and tell you they know best because "ive be doing this from the 80's".... the reply you got from FSDT was what a few people had been tell you all along.

Sigh....

PS ( don't quote the reply I made by mistake when reading it to fast as I was at work that was a miss read.)
