Here is more info on SpeedTree from one of the LM developers:

Where can I read more about SpeedTree?

SpeedTree models show up as Scenery library objects, so there were no SimDirector UI or SDK changes required to support them. We did not add an article to the Learning Center. We will probably post an FAQ. Here is a starting point:

How do I place SpeedTree Models?
- Open SimDirector
- Choose Scenery category
- Choose vegetation_st subcategory
- Drag and drop items from the list into the scene
- (Optional) chose File->Export Scenery to save your placement out as bgl

This should allow for some very creative possibilities from devs and end users.  As I understand we can look forward to some addition tools/options for SpeedTree in future v3.x versions.

Cheers, Rob.

Subtle ... haha ... FYI, I do most of my V3 testing on my more modest (what I consider mid-tier) PC that's running a much older CPU (3960X) and a single 970GTX.

Pending on your hardware and what's you PC bottleneck, you should see a good improvement in FPS.  SLI artifacts are now fixed, but be aware that Water = Ultra with an SLI combination "may" cause some performance issues ... if you are seeing performance issues with SLI and Water = Ultra, then set Water = High as that will recover any FPS issues ... again this is for SLI only, single GPUs are fine.

No offence intended Rob  , you do excellent work and love reading your posts. My system is an I7 4770K running at 4ghz but I am a bit worried about my GFX card though ( GTX 770 2GB) I runs V2.5 fine on single monitor but wondering if I may need to upgrade this?

It'll depend on how well your card works with CUDA libraries ... GPU usage has gone up.  I personally would recommend a 970 4GB card as starting point IF you want to turn up the graphics settings.

Cheers, Rob.

Installed fine, now trying to coerce some add-ons to work. Generally there are no big issues, and I really like the fact that you get CFG files for all additional content like effects, gauges, etc. Just make sure you add your custom directories at the top of the list (renumbering the remaining items) to ensure that your custom content takes priority over default if there are files with identical file names.

The HDR sliders are a very nice addition, but there's more! In your Prepar3D.cfg, you get values that let you set day and night exposure independently, so you can get nice bright sunny days and properly dark nights.

EDIT: There's a big issue when add-ons use relative paths and you place them in a separate directory, that's probably going to cause a lot of hassle before 3PDs embrace the new directory structure...

Does this mean that you can also make daylight look darker than normal? My photoscenery never looks as good in broad daylight. I prefer the more subtle lighting at dawn and dusk, and I would really like to know if I can do that with v3.

I also don't have it. The screen is the exact same as in v2. Only with a different color.

i know orbx willl bring a new installer in a month, but for now someone know how to fix the probllem with the scenery.cfg probllem and doesnt show in the library when installing FTX and OPEN LC ?

The first thing that I noticed since coming onto this thread today...is well...LACK of excitement.  A new click on the version meter....and the best I read here..is well..."took a flight...kinda nice...it didn't blow up the computer with the first running of it (v3.0)....  or uh...(scratching head), what exactly denotes the new version moniker?!?!?!...stuff like that.

"Getting 60 plus FPS with a virgin install"....

....not at all what I expected in first-adopter reactions from a new version, as when we went from v1 to v2.

Yeah...this seems truly still; rendition .6 of the V2 series.  VAS tweak, Avatar walking around....yeah.

Going to transition now from v2.4 to v2.5, as the comments were always strong and positive for v2.5, right out of the gate.  Was going to bypass v2.5 for V3.0...but the plan has changed.

Staying with v2.5...until I see what I personally consider a leap forward....64 bit, and even perhaps a new graphics engine. Now...THAT in my P.O, warrants a new 'V'.x

Will fly with a stable and strong v2.5, and wait for the true advance mile-stone.  Maybe v4, v5, v(whatever).

Cheers, all!

I get a download of 100-150ks maximum :/ I have 300mbs. is it just me?
