PF3 ATC Program thoughts

Featured Replies

"...I'd just like to see an ATC program that takes my flight plan and then provides ground control to get me to the runway without hitting anything, hands me off to the tower and then departure after takeoff, automatically assigns me a SID where available, hands me off to the appropriate sector ATC centers en route and allows me to deviate from my flight plan for weather, emergencies, etc., automatically assigns me a STAR where available and tells me what runway to land on, and finally hands me off to ground control and gets me to my gate without hitting anything(allowing me to choose available gates would be nice, too).

Oh, and it should use the current Airac and allow this to be easily updated, e.g. Navigraph.

Does anyone know if there's any ATC program available now that does this?

Thanks.

Dave "

...that's odd Dave, you just described VOXATC  .... the only requirement is that you load your desired FS plan prior to activating the add on.

  • Well 18 pages of beating up a Dev, cat calls and mostly neg comments. This thread should be posted and anyone new wanting to sign up at AVSIM should be required to read every last post prior to being

  • I also don't feel that anyone is "beating up" on the developer. There are many, many threads where an add on is discussed and pros and cons are addressed by the forum members joining in the discussion

  • I never said that is was wrong to question or point out things that are not working correctly. The rest I stand by.

Exactly how expensive are these TTS voices. I found the Ivona  web site this morning, but it looks like you have to subscribe and they charge you for the amount of the voices you use. I wonder what an average monthly cost is for a flight simmer.

the subscription price is for companies using them in their business.... personal use is approx. $28 US  per voice

Anything else anyone want to know at this stage, Jereon   maybe

Well, I was wondering if you can also use Pilot2ATC v2 with the keyboard or if talking into a mic to the computer is mandatory. And I am not interested in a co-pilot doing everything: I want to do everything but not with my actual voice.

Nope, if you do not want to use a mic then just use the say it button.

Ok, pity, Pilot2ATC scrapped from the list.

???   He just told you that you don't need to talk to it.

Jeroen, I don't think you're understanding how the "say it button" is going to work in v.2.  It just says the words for you, but you still have to select what to say.  And you can still use the voice recognition whenever you want.

I'm really looking forward to having this option.

Two Questions about Pilot 2 :

1. Can you import a flight plan by copy and paste, like for instance if you have a Simbrief flight plan which I like to use?

2. I notice many features with Auto pilot functions in the demo video. If you are using an aircraft like the 737 NGX which has it's own autopilot, FMC, etc, can those features just be ignored or will they interfere with the aircraft functions?

but you still have to select what to say

Does this work similar to the standard ATC window where you can choose this or that anouncement?

I also prefer talking to atc by not talking... :Tounge:

Hi Jeroen,

Maybe it's time to go to Pilot2Atc site, download the User guide and read. So you will have all the answers to your questions/suppositions/speculations, and better there is a 15 days trial.

Still cant figure out why YT videos of simmers flying as well as all these ATC programs insist you slow down so far out on final approach. If you did that at a busy airport they would have your head. Slows down arrival rates and messes up the incoming flow. Have a listen on LiveATC. Always hearing keep the speed up 170 .... until a certain point way closer in perhaps 6dme from TD not this 10-20dme stuff. yikes

Aaaaah, my bad. I indeed misunderstood it! I thought that you were only able to say 'say it' so you could only acknowledge things and had no option to choose anything in anyway. Sorry! Added Pilot2ATC to my list again LOL I only hope I can do without all those screens I see in those video's, blocking the view.

Will do but afaik v2 hasn't been released yet? I am not interested in a trial of v2. But I will check out the site anyway to see what else there is to find about v2.

EDIT You can download a beta of the v2 manual already, Just had a look at it. It raises more questions... like it seems to download its own weather data: I wonder what happens if I use ASN historic weather? Seems Pilot2ATC will only see the current weather it has downloaded itself. That would make all great looking auto SID and STAR options useless. Questions questions... Let's await the demo.

EDIT

The second part of this video (after 6 minutes) nicely shows how you can indeed 'talk' without talking. Looks great. Also very nice how you can choose yourself what to 'say' from a quit long list that's appropriate for the situation. Cool! I only hope (must check the manual once more) that you can hide that message window somehow. Wouldn't want it on screen all the time. But anyway, this looks like a nice addon to actually try out. (Take note that the guy who is talking forgot to talk into the microphone so his voice is hard to hear: don't turn up the volume or the ATC voices will hurt you ears.)

Guys,

You can explain things until you are blue in the face, but sometimes it does not compute with some and I've seen this historical here and in other forums.  hold on just seen there was a misunderstanding and,,,,hold on,,,,,,,,is there something else now to moan about :Tounge:

Anyway onwards and upwards!

Bob,

1. Yes, also from Realworld Flight database and Flightaware. Also .pln files from programs like PFPX

2, I've never used these at all with P2A and even on ProATC/X. The only CP function that is useful is the CP to control freq changes, as we are 1 person trying to do  a 2 man job. So the answer you are like for is NO they do not interfere anf YES just ignore them

Hope this helps

One of the first lessons they teach developmental controllers at Atlanta is "speed kills". You're probably listening to the final controller who is ensuring he doesn't get any compression outside the marker. If the aircraft in front slows down too soon, the aircraft behind will "catch" him. Think of 170 as the "default" speed restriction - it gets the aircraft slowed enough for a smooth transition to the approach speed; but it still gives the controller room to slow them more in a pinch.

If you find a frequency for the feeder controller (most busy airports will have at least one), you'll probably hear a lot more speed restrictions. The controller wants aircraft on the base and downwind legs slowed so the final doesn't get strung out to the point that they run out of airspace.

Speed control doesn't really impact arrival rates - sooner or later the aircraft has to slow down to land. By slowing them earlier, you keep the final shorter (which is always a good thing).

With that said, I am not enjoying the late descents PF3 has been giving me (still playing with the options to see how to correct it). Speed restrictions and "slam dunk" approaches are mutually exclusive.
