Ask Dovetail Games about DTG Flight School & Flight Simulator

Featured Replies

Hello Martin.

How many hours will it take for a Flight School student to obtain his license? Will there be a minimum number of obligational hours? Is there attention for that very exciting moment when you are allowed to go solo for the first time? Will there be obligational solo hours? And have you guys also included an examination flight with a virtual examinator?

I'm really curious how close the DTG Flight School will approach real world flight training.

Hi Martin,

Could you please shed your light on this?

Cheers, Bert

Marketing question-

Will the new sims be focused on Steam/download purchase or is Dovetail aiming at also a retail box version that people can pick up at major retailers like Wal-Mart and Target?

Can I assume that when it is released for pre-order tomorrow, that the full system specs, videos and screenshots are published too. I think there were many of us that were hooked on the screenies from FSX pre release, only to be bitterly disappointed with what we got.

DTG Flight School is set for digital release only. There is likely to be boxed released of DTG Flight Sim, but this will activate via either Steam or the Windows Store. Much like our TS and Euro Fishing boxed releases.

Martin, the concept of Flight School is a very good one, (mission based learning etc) its sounds good. BUT you guys are already sounding like your executing the idea in the wrong way. I mean I can learn to fly anything on YouTube! I learned how to Fly a 737 on Youtube! and then put it into practice in FSX. I learned Navigation and ATC ...On Youtube!   So 64bit FSX based flight school sounds great, BUT I can't load up my A2A Cessna 172 and fly a mission, I can't fix the sky, I can't load up my favorite clouds, airports, weather and other aircraft....So whats the point? Your not giving us what we want! So it seems there's no point in buying Flight School. I am disappointed......again!

DTG Flight School has not be designed with existing flight sim players in mind. We have spent the last two years listening to existing and would-be simmers alike. We have been intent on discovering what keeps you all simming, and what stops those who would like to get into flight simulation from doing so. We have learned that flight simulation appeals to an incredible amount of people, but a lot of them find it too hard to get started with. It is our aim to reclaim and attract those would-be simmers, but in order to do so, we need to present flight simulation in a way that doesn't initially overwhelm them.

That is where Flight School comes in.  We wanted to create an experience which makes flight simming accessible to anyone who wants to try it. Doing this as a standalone release allows us to focus on tailoring the experience more at these players.

Do you know exactly what time we would expect it to be available (in UTC time).

Also, I found this new video. Starts at 6 minutes and 30 seconds.

Hi Martin, see my quotes above.

Okay, I am just waiting on some more info from our gameplay designer first before answering. Stick with me please.

Hi Martin,

The FSX Deluxe Edition came with roughly 40 detailed cities worth of scenery. Will the new sim plan on upgrading any of these with new scenery?

Hi Martin,

Will there be an actual gameplay trailer for us to watch?

The trailer you released earlier is very good at getting new people around the sim and showing what it's all about but is meaningless for long time simmers like us.

Reminds me of the Rain Sim trailer, all eye candy but very little is actually in the sim...

Thank you!

Martin,

You previously told us that Flight School would have two planes. Now it appears that there will be a third aircraft available. Can we expect that over time additional aircraft, and other DLC such as scenery, will also become available for Flight School?

Give people power to really test their personality.
