Ask Dovetail Games about DTG Flight School & Flight Simulator

Featured Replies

Hi Martin,

Thanks for setting up this forum to discuss the two new flight simulators from Dovetail Games and for answering the majority of the questions asked.

Q1. When will the two new flight simulators be released?

Q2. Will the two new flight simulators be sold at retail stores or just steam?

Q3. Are there going to be any demos, or any new previews that include images and videos on the two new releases?

Cheers,

Daniel

Hello Martin. Should we expect to see any more videos or previews? Maybe some Twitch streams or "let's plays" of the sim?

I haven't forgotten about it. We are looking to cover this in more detail in a video, which is why I haven't spoken much about it here.

Yes then!

I am not sure about Twitch as our video streaming studio is out of action at the moment. There will be lots more screenshots and video though. We should have a play through video with dev commentary coming this week if all goes to plan.

We will be confirming the final release date for DTG Flight School this week. We haven't set a release date yet for DTG Flight sim. The best I can say is towards the end of the year.

Flight school is going to be a digital release only. We are currently not planning on releasing a boxed version. It is a bit early to say with Flight Sim, but we usually do a boxed release for Train Simulator so it is likely we will.

We will have lots more videos and images of Flight School before it is released. Naturally, when the times comes to talk about DTG Flight Sim we will have lots for that too. At the moment we are focused on Flight School though. There will not be a demo for DTG Flight School. Again, it is too early to say for Flight Sim.

So now flight school is delayed. Why am I not surprised? When I saw earlier in the thread that certain things were supposedly still being worked on, I started speculating with myself about a delay. And telling myself that after all the buildup, they just couldn't let that happen. I guess its brave of them to hold off, considering all the speculation it will cause.

Dovetail Games Flight School releases May 24th

Since we announced Dovetail Games Flight School at the beginning of the year, we have been in constant communication with you via various forums and social networks such as Reddit, Facebook, YouTube, AVSIM and more. Additionally, we have demoed Flight School publicly at events including Insomnia57 and EGX Rezzed. We are thrilled by the positive response

Flight School has received and the amazing support shown to us by both new and existing flight simmers.

In order to further address the incredible amount of feedback we have received in the last few months, we have made the decision to push back the release of Flight School to 24th May 2016. This extra time will allow us to make Flight School an even better, more polished experience for our players.

This isn’t a decision we have made lightly, and we wholeheartedly apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

All of your ideas and suggestions have proven invaluable in helping to us to shape the development of Flight School so far, and we would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to get in touch with us. We will continue to monitor your feedback and answer your questions, and we look forward to sharing Flight School with you on 24th May.

I am hoping and praying that once DTGFS launches, I will never have to edit another flightsim cfg file in my life or spend hours of my life browsing the internet trying to discover the reason why this thing, that thing or the other thing went boink and turned yet another  flightsim session into a complete waste of time. Can I get a witness?

Mr. Martin @ DTG.

I found this topic online and I just loved all I read, first I did my homework and read all your replies to the various questions presented to you. I have no questions my self they all have been answered. I have been into Flight Simulation Since FS98 (Not sure if that is FS7,8 or 9) and I as many simmers have spend enormous amounts of money in hardware and software to fuel our passion for flying. I'm very exited about the product that DTG is producing, seems like a new beginning to something wonderful. I'm ready and my wallet too, make me a great Flight Simulation Platform and I'll give my support to DTG financial greatness. Then again I will Purchase P3Dv4 when it comes out but I really feel happy about what you guys are doing there at DTG for our simmer community.

Thanks!!!

Hello Martin,

Although I'm sorry Flight School isn't going to be released in April, it is better to wait than to put out something that isn't fully ready. Can you give us some idea of what the development team will be working on between now and May 24?

Thanks!

Are we going to see the in-game video with developer comment promised for this week or has this been abandoned now?

Thanks and kind regards, Michael

That should answer your question. He said next week.

Let me guess.... you want 64bit.

Read it trice. I read this week. Never mind, we'll see.

I sure can.

We have had lots of feedback from the community collected at events and online through our own channels and others. Additionally, we have had recommendations from professional pilots and from testers, both of whom have been getting hands-on with DTG Flight School.

There are several key areas we are using this extra time to refine:

Firstly, we are fine-tuning the various missions and lessons in Flight School. We want to make sure that they are as accurate as possible, that we thoroughly explain aviation terminology and that the difficulty levels are challenging, yet fair for the benefit novice simmers.

We are spending time focussed on the world environment – including how both the ground and sky are depicted – and ensuring this delivers as great a level of realism and detail as we can manage.

Additionally, we are spending more time giving our two aircraft even more love and attention to ensure they are rich with detail by improving models, fine tuning animations, and making sure they remain accessible for novice simmers

Finally, we are working closely with real world pilots to further refine the flight models of the included aircraft by capturing more of the subtle differences between them.

And of course we want to leave plenty of time for polish and balancing to ensure the product that you get day one is as enjoyable and bug-free as possible.

We know that there are lots of features in Dovetail Games Flight School that you want to see in action. We have been listening and taking note of what you want to see, and we will be showcasing many of them over the coming weeks.

This weekend, we will be taking a closer look at the two in-game flight schools, Waltham Flying Club in the UK and Eagle Pilot Training in the USA. Next week we will be bring you a full play through video of one of the LAPL lessons, “Approach & Landing”, complete with intro from Creative Director Stephen Hood.

We will then be getting up close with the Piper Super Cub and Piper Cherokee in another video which focuses on the small details of the exterior models as well as the cockpits.

And subsequently, the next gameplay video will feature a full play through of the Icing Conditions Mission with voiceover by Stephen Hood

Finally, we be taking lots of screenshots of some of the smaller features you have asked to see, such as the new UI design, the flight planner and the Pilot Profile.
