March 9, 201610 yr Moderator Dovetail will regulate all this in their forthcoming simulator for the 3rd parties and customers alike. No hacking allowed anymore. Fullstop. To be more accurate, "No hacking required anymore." DTG's goal is to expose all of the "hooks" formerly required by "hacking" so that it is no longer necessary. Big difference! Fr. March 9, 201610 yr Sparse Grid Super Sampling - it is a setting in Nvidia Inspector that helps to stop texture shimmering on certain objects (particularly fences and slender poles in the distance, but also buildings). March 9, 201610 yr I was in the very same situation always finding how I really needed SGSS to get the kind of IQ I was looking for. However since replacing FSX with P3D SGSS was not an option anymore due to the issue with extremely low performance in dense clouds with SGSS enabled. I "solved" the issue by getting myself a good 4K screen able to deliver 4K @ 60 Hz. Now I don't use SGSS anymore. Honestly I still do see some shimmering and bad AA in some situations but all in all I think it's OK. Looking at the performance though you'll need a good graphics card for 4K. I'm using a single 980 Ti and this gives me the performance I need to be happy using the add-ons I like such as the Orbx global products, ASN live weather etc and doing all my flying in the NGX to and from large payware airports online on Vatsim. I still run a GTX760 with 4gig. Without upgrading my CPU do you think a titan would allow me to not have to use the SGSS? Geez, I just priced that card. They seem to run clear up to $2000. What is the model you are using? Bob To be more accurate, "No hacking required anymore." DTG's goal is to expose all of the "hooks" formerly required by "hacking" so that it is no longer necessary. They seem to run clear up to $2000. What is the model you are using? Hard to say when you don't mention what CPU you are using but generally speaking for the SGSS issue in dense clouds that is mostly about the GPU rather than the CPU I think so replacing your GTX760 with a faster GPU would surely help. Do note however that running SGSS will cause a performance hit almost regardless what GPU you have. If I recall correctly I think Rob mentioned he still get a severe performance hit even when running 2 Titans in SLI. So...with this said if you can find another way dealing with the AA issues rather than using SGSS that is preferred. At least if you ask me. In my case as mentioned in my previous post going to 4K was a very good way around the issue but again...running in 4K does require a fast GPU as well. However I don't think you need a Titan. I'm using a single 980Ti which is a lot cheaper compared to a Titan and it's still a very fast card.

Well if it still was a hit on the GPU with a 970 or 980 you would think that the impact would not be as bad since the card is more powerful, but I am not a GPU expert LOL Was thinking of upgrading to something since some much of the work for both P3D and x-plane is being off loaded to the GPU. Knowing this I would think an upgrade might be beneficial. Bob Officially retired
March 9, 201610 yr I think that the developers, in most cases, are trying their best to keep up with a somewhat difficult situation. The difficulty of their situations is based on decisions they made ... it's not something that applies to all 3rd party content providers. For example PMDG's P3D products have not "required" updates to work with P3D versions. PMDG have provided updates to enhance their product working with P3D over time, but they've managed that process very well as have other 3rd party content providers. collection is my Quality Wings 146 and a 737 and I'll be happy The QW 146 and RJ work well in P3D (have several video's demonstrating them working). If you don't want PMDG's 737 offering, you have other choices that work in P3D "as is" ... Milviz 737 (http://milviz.com/flight/products/B732C/index.php, iFly 737 (http://www.iflysimsoft.com/ProductsDetail.aspx?PID=17) , and possibly others 737 options. I can with just 1 Titan X and 3 outside view monitors. But I resized all REX TD + SC 512 clouds to 256 and then resharpened them. That will work for clouds, but only for clouds ... other FX like, jet wash, prop wash, rain, smoke, engine smoke, wheel spray, etc. will have a huge impact on FPS also (espeically if they fill up the screen like when taxiing with wind in snow/rain conditions). For those of you still have AA issues, I'd recommend you turn OFF "Wide-view aspect ratio" and use seat position to adjust and find a good compromise position. Although "wide-view aspect ratio" may let you see more VC, it's not very realistic "view" position. NOT that it has to be realistic (to each his or her own), but using "wide-view aspect ratio" will impact FPS a little, even more so when combined with SGSS AA. Cheers, Rob.
March 9, 201610 yr The QW 146 and RJ work well in P3D They aren't in v3 (MCP gear and flaps got unresponsive half of the times).. and when I asked the reason, they told me that t hey are concentrate to finish their 747.. so I pointed the fact that a new customer would think twice before buying a new product if they doesn't care to update the current ones! ...they didn't care... and I asked for a refund (that I obtained)... sadly coz I loved that 146. ...talking about the support of payware and my frustration. All this situation is because of the niche market and because there's no really much competition.. but you can't say that this is the normality, the fact that we have so much patience (due to our "complex" hobby) doesn't mean that we have to accept passively everything.

March 9, 201610 yr New update out (v3.2.3.16769): http://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6305&t=117553 Nice, love updates. After all we must NOT forget, gentlemen, that simming is not about flying- it's about tweaking. (I'm just trying not to break my computer guys). На-на-на....that's why I'm not going to update earlier than April 2nd. You know, you could have made it less painful if you would have included one less 'ha.' Just saying. Putting all those 'ha, ha, ha' is not funny. Someone might want to give you a big hug across your neck. LoL

Knowing this I would think an upgrade might be beneficial. Yep, for sure replacing your GPU with a more powerful one will help. Only not expect to be able to run 4xSGSS in dense clouds etc without a performance hit so you don't get disappointed. New update out (v3.2.3.16769): http://www.prepar3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6305&t=117553 Thanks for the HU but if you have a permanent license I wonder if updating is even necessary? Surely it's always nice to be on the latest version and as long as you only update the client using the recommended path by LM it's not really I big deal. In my case updating yesterday took me less than a couple of minutes. Just saying for those who don't like updating...and edited to add that all in all I think like others already said that we should be more than happy we have a developer that so actively continues to improve the platform we all use.
