XP11 vs FSX

Featured Replies

LOL dont get me started, the slow loading ground textures, the micro stutters, terrible fps, ooms.... and yea i have a top of the line system so its not that

Well I have never had an OOM, do not get micro stutters nor are my ground textures slow loading.

But there is more to getting a smooth running P3D than just having a "top of the line system" sometimes it's not the tools you have but how you use them.

There must be a reason why FSX/P3D is massively more popular with both users and developers, might it be that it offers a much more rounded simulation especially if you spend the money on the huge amount of superior payware that is available.

I'll say this, even though the flight model seems better in XP10/11 vs p3d, there are just too many cons in XP for me.  The lack of default airports is big because if I decide to explore a new area, nothing breaks immersion more than landing into just a runway with no other structures.  I will say this, XP has lighting locked down - which is probably the biggest thing that keeps drawing me back.  Night flights in XP are truly something special.  From turning on the taxi lights and seeing how they almost fade in like on the real thing, to how the beacon lights reflect off surfaces is incredible.  P3D/FSX don't come close.  (Unless there's some addon or setting I'm missing for this?)  Not to mention night time seems to be just overly bright to me in P3D.  All that said, P3D just works for me.  I don't have OOMs or stutters in the latest version, and my frame rates are decent.  FlyInside VR support seems to work great (which im sure over time it will for XP too).  There's study level craft from PMDG and FSLabs, GSX, AS16 & ASCA just to name a few that I can't leave behind.

I don't know if I've seen one around but maybe a pinned thread created when XP11 is official that highlights key features between the sims with matching comparable addons?  That might help someone just starting out or someone wanting to make the switch to decide if its worth it with all the information in one place.

Sorry for the rambling all, haven't had my coffee yet.   :hi:

Sure, people have been spending money on FSX for 10 YEARS. Developers have kept doing their thing, mostly the same way, for equally 10 YEARS. You can see how one side doesn't want to spend a lot more money on something new and the second don't want to drop their know-how built in 10 years.

The funny thing is how a chunk of said users then complain about nothing new in the sim market happening.

Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

Perhaps you are not aware of the excellent Prefab Airports plug in?  It adds Orbx-quality default airports for the entire globe--every one of the airports that is in P3D/FSX (well, 25,000 at least).  They have quite a bit of character and variety too.  Better than Orbx IMO.

This is why I have elected to make  XP11 my sim of choice - great video to show why I did

the whole video was at night, everyone knows fsx is a day sim and xp10/11 is a night sim.  Recently i turned fsxse into a great night time flying sim with TABURET - FSX P3D NIGHT Lights addon.  I do own xp10 but xp11 is not a new improved version.   All xp10 bugs and faults carried over to 11.

....What?!  Where has this been the past 2 years I've been playing around with XP10?  It's not like I haven't searched either, just any thread I found was filled mostly with replies of, "that's just XP".  I'll def have to check this out.  Thanks!

just because p3d is going 64 bit doesnt mean it will be better! that will help the oom issue but what about the rest of the issues? btw xp11 beta has been more stable than p3d ever was for me. btw, you contracdict yourself, you said you bought xp11 and seldom use it but you also say you are reading reports that its quite far from stable. so which is it? either you know because you are using it or you arent using it and you are making judgments based on other peoples suggestions.

I'd really surprised if they only moved to 64 bit without adding anything new stuff. That would mean dead simulation for many as XP11 has greatly improved day environment while being far superior in night flying (apart Jcomm and FSXSEPilot who still prefer Prepared lights).

My impression were good, but I had lower FPS than XP10, trouble setting controllers, some aircrafts incompatibility and eventually I've choosen to wait for official XP11 release rather than wasting time dealing with new betas each time. If you read forum any new beta improves something but brings other bugs, in this state I prefer to fly on old stable XP10. I'm not the one who likes to fly a vanilla sim without adding payware addons.

About time to close this one down, getting out of hand.

I never used FSX or P3D with OrbX scenery. I'm a X-Plane user since beginning of this hobby. But looking at their screenshots and comparing with Prefab airports in sim, I must say your statement is a bit exaggerated. Nonetheless it is a great improvement having a great coverage of decent airports with this free addon.

Why, the discussion seems fairly civil, it's a discussion board so expect folks to discuss their various points of view which may or may not fit in with your own views.

Have you even spent more than a few minutes in xp11? I firmly believe most people who have came over are at least keeping an open mind about xp11.  I spent years tweaking , upgrading systems , and basically trying to find that right balance in fsx/p3d. YEA you can get no stutters if you make compromises on the sliders, depends on your system. I have a great system but i never felt that it was able to get the most out of the softwareeven with hours and hours of tweaking, tuning, reading posts , etc.... I  spent more time in the .cfg and messing with sliders than flying. At the end of the day p3d  is a good product and im not bashing it  but I feel that people who come on here and say p3d is so much better havnt really given xp10/11 a fair shot nor have they found out everything it has to offer, which is a lot!  people say theres no weather , LOL, xenviro for being brand new is amazing and will only get much better. they say there arent any good payware addon aircraft, HA. ixeg 737, x aviation saab 340, FF757 , jrollon crj200, etc... yea it would be amazing if we had pmdg, the majestic dash 8 and the new fsl a320 but honestly can live without it. Have you seen ortho sceneries?? honestly i could never go back to p3dv3, thats how good this sim is in BETA!!

I did the same myself when xp 10 came out, I tried it and thought wow this  isnt very good and isnt what im used to and that was that, i gave up too quick. When xp11 videos came out that looked amazing I said ill have another go at it. This time it has captured me and I havnt loaded up p3d since and only will to try p3dv4.

Sorry, I didn't mean the payware airports from Orbx but the generic ones included in their region packs.  There are only a few building types there which tend to become repetitive.

Imagine PMDG airliners in XP11 - going to be awesome if that happens - I will wait and hope for the best

I've never seen / used a complex aircraft for XP10 that could match the best available for FSX / P3D.

Have you flown any helicopters lately?

I know tubeliner pilots might not think of helicopters as complicated, but aside from the far more realistic flight modeling in X-Plane, there are helicopters like the X-Trident Bell 412 with more advanced systems to learn and master. I'm still not sure I know how to use all the autopilot modes correctly in that one, and I haven't even tried sling operations yet.

P.S. this isn't a "my sim is better than yours" post, just pointing out that "complex aircraft" can mean different things to different people depending on their simulation preferences.

P.P.S. Austin recently mentioned including mast bump in one of the dev posts (yay!... although if it's like VRS it may take a while to get right).

Honestly, I enjoy the ixeg more than the pmdg 737ng. The pmdg is a more mature product for sure as it came out years ago. With that said, pmdg is 100% welcome and looking forward to them coming over.
