Aerosoft CRJ 700/900 Released!!!

Recommended Posts

I honestly don't know what to try anymore. I tried another flight with the CRJ and yet again Failed to get the Autopilot to connect. I was lined up perfectly with the flight director, correct heading, and just wouldn't do anything. Getting really frustrated here.

Is there any way to turn off the realistic AP engagement I'm about ready to take my CRJ and recreate 9/11

Hi:

Does this RJ allow you to switch between metric and imperial?

For whatever reason, that feature not modeled in the bus drove me nuts.

Same here my mate (whos a 330 captain at Virgin) came over with 6 coronas,  90 mins with the tutorial and we pushed back, engines on etc only to find the throttles didn't work..

The throttles didn't work for you? Hmmm, ok... make sure your USB cable is connected to your PC, also make sure your computer is turned on. AN, of course don't forget to calibrate your throttles

cheers

Yes, you can switch between metric and imperial.

It shouldn't be that hard. Being lined up with the flight director is one thing but did you trim to hold it?

I'm not sure at this point it's all in your technique. It may be worth posting in the aerosoft support forum.

You did load a default aircraft first right?

Can you explain how to do this?

Yes, it's a must with this addon as per the "troubleshooting" section on the aerosoft CRJ forum

PMDG says NOT to do this with their airplanes... ok...

Yes, but how are you flying any aircraft at all if you don't know about trim?

Trim allows you to release pressure from the yoke and maintain the attitude you had established. There are various types. Rudder, aileron and elevator trim.

For the most part we are interested here in elevator trim.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trim_tab

in small trainers like Cessna 152, 172 etc the elevator trim is often a "wheel" near the throttle which is moved up or down to relieve pressure on the yoke.

in larger aircraft, these controls are often electrical switches on the yoke usually positioned on the left hand side at the top of the yoke. This is true for 737, CRJ etc

in FS, you simply assign buttons to the trim commands.

When flying in say a climb from the runway you will be holding the yoke or stick back to maintain the desired climb attitude. Using the elevator trim up button you would hold it until you can release the pressure on the stick or yoke and still maintain the attitude.

In the crj we would maintain attitude to follow the FD in TO Mode using the yoke and then trim to maintain the attitude indicated by the FD. Once it's stable you can engage the AP.

Thank you for your help

I'm so used to the 737 which pretty much does everything for you.

I think this is my problem because when I am flying the CRJ, if I let go of the yoke the airplane nose would rapidly fly up into the sky. I would have to hold the yoke all the way down just to keep it level. I know sound like a major NOOB  but I am just new at this stuff.

Where is the trim located in the CRJ?

Here is the 737 yoke. Look at stabilizer trim switch. The CRJ is similar but not the same. You can see the trim switch on the vc yoke. In reality it doesn't matter though. You need to assign the elevator trim up and down commands to keyboard presses or buttons on your yoke or joystick. This is all done in the simulator "controls" menu. Once you have that then you will be keep pressing or holding the trim button until the aircraft holds the attitude you want. In the case you described, you would trim nose down to stop the aircraft pitching up.

Ok I will look at that for my next flight. Thank you

One thing to check. If you power the aircraft up in the default cold and dark state, three systems have to be activated before takeoff that would affect the autopilot- the yaw dampers, the horizontal stab trim system and Mach trim.

The switches for all of these are on the center console. There are two yaw damper switches. You press one, then the other. There are also two STAB switches ( lower left side) that are also pressed in order. Finally the Mach trim switch, which is next to the STAB switches. This is the only one which is lit up when "off".

I think these are already all enabled if you start in the "engines running" state.

Also, before takeoff it is essential to put the flight director in TOGA mode. You can do this by using a keyboard assignment (I think it's CTL-SHFT-G), a joystick button, or press the TOGA button on the side of the virtual throttle knob.

If you have done this correctly, the flight director mode in the PFD will say TO TO.
