Ah yes... didn't think of that till you pointed it out!

It seems to me also that Aerosoft have been quietly slipping into PMDG/A2A study level territory. Perhaps not to the same extent, but their Catalina is superb and is a challenge to manage, not just a Catalina-shaped DC3, if you know what I mean. The Twin Otter Extended was far than just a facelift for the existing model, there is real depth in the systems modelling, even if those systems aren't as deep as a 737 or Q400.

Yup, totally agree, the Aerosoft Consolidated PBY Catalina is one of the best old warbirds you can get for either FSX or P3D, and Aerosoft were quick to make it P3D V4 compatible too. Hard to believe that thing's been out for as long as it has considering the excellent engine modeling it has, with things like shock cooling engine damage and plug fouling on your descent, it's one where you really do have to manage the engines properly. It's great when you give it some welly on the throttle after a long descent to burn the accumulated oil off all those plugs on those two big radials and you see it belch out a load of smoke as it clears them; makes it feel like the thing really has fuel and oil sloshing around inside it rather than just being some pixels on a screen. I'd recommend that to anyone who likes a bit of a challenge and is looking for something a bit bigger which they can fly either IFR or VFR for very long distances indeed and then land it pretty much anywhere they like since it is amphibious.

I've gotta laugh at all the posts about the new Aerosoft  CRJ not capturing the GS too. Really, some people need to either read the manual or at the very least do the tutorial flight, and to be honest, you don't even need to do all of that tutorial either in order to gain an understanding of the nuances of the CRJ. Or, heaven forbid, we might actually have take the controls and land the thing ourselves manually. Now there's a novel idea, a flight simmer actually simulating flying something instead of just pressing a button and then freaking out when it doesn't land the plane, make them a nice coffee and pat them on the back, all for not having RTFM lol.

So yeah, props to Aerosoft for getting some great stuff out there, even managing to get their very own standalone flight simulator out earlier this year, in an admirable effort to pique the interest of new people into flying simulated airliners. As everyone knows, it's been a bit of a long wait for this CRJ, to say the least, but frankly, the results are inclined to make anyone who tries it forgive the delays, and appreciate another really nice simulation of an aeroplane from Aerosoft, one with some very nice design touches indeed.

Don't get me started...

OK- I am prepared to eat my words completely!!

I just bought it, and I love it! Fantastic aircraft. For $50, it's worth it in my opinion. It's a good break from flying PMDG 24/7, and it's a great plane for those really short routes that the 737 doesn't fly. Really good if you are on a time crunch and want a 1 hour flight!

Yep, it's fun to fly, and keeps the pilot occupied from takeoff to touchdown.

I like recreating r/w flights that I have taken as a passenger. No matter what my ultimate destination, I always have to go to Detroit first. This airplane finally allows me to do the leg to and from my home airport, since our local airline service is exclusively provided by CRJ 700s and 900s.

During beta testing I flew the DTW SPICA2 arrival so many times that I have memorized every waypoint, altitude restriction and heading of that procedure!

This is literally from the patch notes of their latest hot fix:

- [Fixed] AP: APPR mode not capturing glideslope when NAV mode was active before

Laugh all you want, but Hans Hartmann the developer of the CRJ can reproduce the bug.

What's with the pompous attitude? Aerosofts CRJ has a blemish regarding G/S capture in some specific scenarios - not all.

It really as nothing to do about simmers not "RTFM"

Quick question? Anyone figure out how to set this up for GSX? Thanks for any info.

Actually, you are both correct to a degree. As Hans points out the "bug" only appears because the CRJ's AP doesn't follow the same procedure as other aircraft's AP. When used per procedures, GS would work as designed:

Good man! I could reproduce it. It's actually related to having the NAV mode active before pressing the APPR button. As far as I am aware this is not the way it's done in real life and most likely the reason why it didn't happen during beta testing.

It also has to do with simmers not reading the manual or checking the forum stickies. For every post about this "real" bug I can show you ten where the switching of the nav source was the problem.

Bugs are normal and are getting fixed. Doing as if this one GS bug when you fly in LOC before arming the APPR mode is the biggest showstopper of all is a bit ridiculously imo.

There certainly was a bug with GS capture (when LOC only (via NAV button) was selected prior to full APR mode).  But with the new updated build, I've just flown a magical flight from ELLX to EDDV and APR mode performed perfectly - despite the huge gusting winds and windshear I was getting from Opus weather !!

Here's my own patch notes:

Disconnect the autopilot, you can do this by pressing the switch which is cryptically marked 'autopilot'.

Next, locate the big steering wheel shaped thingy in front of you, this is the control yoke, place your left hand on this control yoke, turn it left or right to steer, move it toward you to climb and slow down, move it even more toward you to fall out of the sky.

Next, locate the two levers immediately to your right on the central pedestal, these are the throttle controls, if you move these and things get louder, you will go faster and also go up, moving them all the way back so things get really quiet will make you will fall out of the sky. This is not recommended.

Next, locate the rudder pedals, these are on the floor near your feet and look like pedals, place your feet on them, these are used to assist in turning the aeroplane and to brake it when it is on the ground. Pressing them hard will make the tail fall off. This is best avoided.

Next, locate the window immediately in front of you, the window is invisible but trust me, unless it is really incredibly windy where you are sat, it is definitely there. Now look through this window and locate a big two mile long piece of concrete in the distance which is 150 feet wide and has red and white lights just to the left of it. Note that if it looks like it is two miles wide and only 150 feet long, you are coming at it from the wrong direction, also note that if the lights are on the right hand side and the sky appears green and you can hear passengers screaming, you are upside down, turn the steering wheel thingy until the sky is blue again. If you do this correctly, the passengers will stop screaming.

Now, maintain Vref (150 knots or so), and line the aircraft up with that enormous two miles long 150 foot wide piece of concrete, you can do this by actually having a go at flying the aeroplane for a change. Now, land it.

I'd wager that most simmers are unaware of Avsim or Aerosoft's forum.
