It needs to be in a stable trimmed condition first.

Same problem, couldnt activate AP. What does stable trimmed condition mean? The original trim value set before takeoff?

It means that if you let go of the yoke the aircraft is trimed to keep flying on the VS etc. Put another way the aircraft will keep going where you want it without your input.

PMDG NG you have to be within limits for the AP to engage also. Unless you have it set up unrealistic ofc.

Same here my mate (whos a 330 captain at Virgin) came over with 6 coronas,  90 mins with the tutorial and we pushed back, engines on etc only to find the throttles didn't work..

Three things to check to get the AP to follow your flight plan and engage properly...

Check that Nav Source is on Fms1 with the EFIS panel

Use TOGA when lined up for takoff off. You will see TO annunciated on the PFD.

Make sure you are stable and near the flight plan path line on the PFD.

We're they not moving during engine start?   If so you need to press the red safety catches and then briefly push each throttle forward (you probably already knew that!).   Beyond that, the throttles should work ok with standard Throttle1 and Throttle2 assignments in FSX/P3D or FSUIPC (or single throttle assignment).   What I find a bit frustrating with it is that the 'detents' or gates for CLB, TOGA and MAX are very very close together, so the throttles keep popping out of the detents due to a bit of joystick noise.

I use CH hardware throttles, calibrated through the standard Win 7 driver. (No FSUIPC).

On start, I click the red latch with my mouse, then immediately advance the hardware throttle about 30 percent of its travel to move it past the cutoff gate, then pull it back to idle. No problem getting the engine to start doing this.

On shutdown, I click the red latch, then pull the virtual throttle fully back to cutoff with the mouse pointer. I can't use the hardware throttle to go to cutoff, since it is already at idle at the bottom of its physical travel.

In either case (start or shutdown), the throttle must be moved without delay after clicking on the red latch, because it will only stay unlocked for a few seconds, then it automatically goes back to the closed position.

So you must get it aligned with the flight director as stable as you can? I tried that on my flight where it would be exactly on the red flight director lines and it still wouldn't engage. Rather annoying..

Spent an hour on the ground yesterday at ORD figuring things out in the cockpit which is unbelievably crammed, I'm sure as in the real thing. So far so good, visually pleasing and at some point this weekend I'm going to take it for a spin. There's a major learning curve to this bird for me personally as I've never tried flying the jet without the auto throttle, so some things are a little confusing to me, but I'm sure it'll come in time.

Since I only just bought it yesterday evening and received an e-mail from Simmarket this morning about the patch, is it more than likely that I've purchased the first release version? Does anyone know if the patch was precisely released today or yesterday at some point?

There is another patch this morning as well requiring complete reinstall.

Yes and trimmed to maintain. I have zero issue engaging the AP.

Update

V 1.0.0.4

- [Exchanged] Manuals have been exchanged

- [Fixed] PFD: VOR-Pointers showing bearing to localizers

- [Fixed] PFD: ADF-Pointers visible when ADF signal strength is zero

- [Fixed] AP: Sensitivity for autopilot disconnect feature due to aileron, elevator or rudder input decreased to avoid unwanted disconnects with unprecise control hardware

- [Fixed] ACP: Radio Idents are now being switched off on loading the aircraft. No beeping anymore!

- [Fixed] RTU: Improved initialization for more better representation of the loading status of FSX/P3D

- [Fixed] FMS: Added additional valdity checks for any fuel and time output to avoid potential CTDs due to buffer overflows*

- [Fixed] AP: APPR mode not capturing glideslope when NAV mode was active before

- [Fixed] FMS: Fixed a problem that caused Crs/Hdg to Along Track Distance legs to not properly switch to the next waypoint (KMSP 30R LEINY5 departure)

- [Fixed] FMS: Fixed a problem with Fix-to-DME Distance legs which messed up the distance/fuel/time calculations and ultimately caused a CTD due to buffer overflow

Today is the most beautiful day of my life...

With that being said, I've been downloading the update from simmarket for over an hour now. Come on!
