Froogle's take on FSW and possible impact on P3D

It was an intelligent conversation until your post. What on earth possessed you to say that? 🙄

I don't know, but I expect that he had good reason to say what he did. Josh is a good personal friend for many, many years and an involved knowledgeable enthusiast of FS that has earned a keen insight into a lot of things, that have always been intelligently articulated while always remaining respected by other men of respect and goodwill. Whatever would have possessed you to say something insulting like that to him? What happened Ray? You are normally more kind and civil?

Sorry after reading this thread all day I was just expressing myself and my feelings on the subject. Just not in the same words as others.

His fault not yours, must have got a plastic straw growing in his nostril or something. 🙂 (It's a new kind of an environmental joke) Peace!

No idea why Froogle is getting a bashing.

His commentary is balanced and intelligent (as it always is).  It was merely just a rant at DTG, and his extrapolation about DTG (potentially) suing for loss of revenue was based purely on the trend DTG seems to be projecting.  It was a throw away comment.  Plausible, but unlikely.   Why is everyone getting so knotted up about it ?

Its all speculation so i understand the post. Everyone is entitled to an opinion

You would hope that if someone felt that way they might expand on why they said what they did rather than just come out with that.

I wouldn’t know this Froogle fellow if he was sitting next to me.

I don’t watch YouTube “experts” because a lot of times they are just giving their opinion and unfortunately a lot of people buy into it like it’s fact. To each their own though, not my cup of tea.

I watch his broadcasts for news on new software and the like. He's an intelligent and personable chap.

He rarely goes into FS 'politics' and his views on how things might pan out on FSW & P3D was sufficiently interesting for me to invite others to share their opinion.

It came across as a throw-away line that he couldn't give a hoot about the situation. So why comment if it adds nothing to the discussion?

If he'd expanded on that I wouldn't have replied the way I did. He may well be an intelligent person but I found that comment irritating when so many others had given sensible replies.

Our times are indeed fond of conspiracy theories and lawyers never miss a beat to squeeze money of any situation.

In any case, the old simmer that I am sees it in a simpler way. FSW died because what it had offered us so far was a rather mediocre FSX redux (Flightschool) and an early access to a not so impressive successor to FSX  Also they wanted to impose a business model that had showed its limits with Flight (the Joshua Howard of marketing ?).

In the same time P3D put on the market a FS 11 and then a x64 FS 12 with the same model (indies enhancing a core product). This has been the flight simulation culture for a long time now.

Contrary to what some say we should be glad  to see them going south. This is a small market population wise and that gives a boost to the remaining contenders for our money, helping thus in their survival.

Might DTG approach the 'consortium' to recoup some costs?

Don't know if they'd all still be onboard though...

Indeed , as I’m just returning to the hobby after 9 years  break I’ve found his videos extremely useful and now look forward to his weekly news broadcasts, he’s a great asset to the community.

I certainly washing bashing him. I like his broadcasts but given the potential seriousness of what he thought might happen I wanted to hear what people here thought of the situation.

I don't think it was a throw-away comment. He never comes across as someone who talks without considering the implications of what he says.

I generally like like Froogle's videos, but the latest one was a "bit" of hyperbole.

I did pony up the $$ for the Professional License for P3D v4, and a lot of that was based on one of his videos, which made sense to me.  Some simmers spend thousands of dollars on their rigs to run, then don't want to spend $200 on the base program for their add ons doesn't make a lot a sense to me.

For example, I was looking at one You Tuber who does some videos about flying the different aircraft (with New Testament passages, even), has a "sponsor" and Patreon link in his channel, yet is running an academic license P3D.  IMHO that is the type that should not be using an academic license.

FSW and DTG, I don't see them doing what Froogle espoused in last Sunday's news.

Ryzen 9 7900X, AsRock Taichi B650e, MSI RTX 4070 Ti Super, 32GB G Skill Flare, 850W PSU, 4TB WD 850 SSD, Win 11 Pro, 27" 1440p MSI monitor

I'm going to suggest that we move away from discussing LM's pricing and debating the licenses. This is getting a bit too close to violating Avsim's TOS.

Thank you.

I didn't mean you Ray.  Some of the commentaries are quite critical  of him raising the (potential) issue which I think is unfair.

If you have a soapbox and you have a strong enough point to make, why not use the soapbox to stand on and make it. Any reasonable audience would debate the point, not attack his integrity.

Well said @ErichB. He was simply drawing our attention to what may happen. I very much doubt Dovetail are reading these pages or watching Froogle's videos and thinking what a good idea! Why didn't we think of that?

For me the critical issue was that P3D came out before FSW so Dovetail knew the market and competition. Whilst I applaud their efforts to create a 64-bit sim I also feel they have let themselves down with their policy towards 3rd party developers. It screams "let's make loads of money and fleece the developers". Not wise and it's come back to bite them.

On a slightly separate note I am watching Froogle's video on P3D v4 and at 19m he starts talking about the licences. I'll leave it at that as we don't want this topic to fall foul of forum rules.

I don’t think anyone is going after him personally. He knows not everyone is going to agree with him and he knows when he posts an editorial that others are going to take him to task on his opinion. I enjoy his videos and value his opinion. I just found this particular piece just like someone else said..nothing but hyperbole. Why is it people can’t have healthy discussions and disagreements without someone getting their feelings hurt? Froogle seems to do a pretty good job of defending himself that he doesn’t need anyone doing it for him.

I also found it amusing when the other guy here took the time to login to a hobbyist website forum to tell everyone how he thinks this post is a waste of time. I wish I had his schedule that I could waste time to let others know what a waste of time something is...😃
