I went from a 7820x@ 4.6ghz to a 8700k@ 5ghz and saw a slight improvement with the 8700k.

I'm personally waiting for the new generation - Ice Lake from Intel. Stick to the CPU you have. It would be a bad investment with the next gen around the corner. 😉

This advice is being given whole year round : Wait till the next generation cpu’s / gpu’s....

Jeez, that's a tired ole trope at this point.

Yep it is tired but there's little improvement these days. Chip performance increases have slowed right down and it's been like this for years, everyone is hoping the next generation will be the big jump. I have an old(8 years!) 2500k running at 4.8 and has been since I got it. I also have a 7700k running the same speed. Cost a fortune for the new chip, board, high speed ram etc. The 2500 has a 970gtx and the 7700 has a 1080ti. Both are running ssds with windows 10.

I do not regret my new machine because I can literally run anything at 4k max settings including lots of vr games. However when it comes to p3d there is not a night and day difference between them especially considering the cost. I'm pretty sure that if I put the 1080ti in with the 2500k it would still give a lot of new stuff a good run for its money.

I have succeed in making huge inroads here. Thanks mainly to Pete Dowson for his ideas.

Do not set up ViewGroups through Immersive Display Pro. Use their old method of Custom Cameras. Frame rates are a lot better.

My biggest problem now is trying to get 3 cameras to pan together. Anyone got any ideas how to achieve this?

Why do you need to pan when you have a wraparound view? Wouldn't that spoil the illusion?

Surprised to see NOT ONE recommendation for any of the new Ryzen chips which have comparable and in many cases better performance for price than quite of a few of the intels.

I've used Intel chips my entire life. This past summer decided to give AMD's new Threadripper 1950x top of the line 16 core CPU a go. Upgrading from a 3770K. I got it in August as my 3770K was on the way out and didn't want to wait for Q4 '17 i7 Extreme's to be released.

Let me tell you the ESP platform has never run better. I run it with a Zenith Extreme Mobo, 3466mhz CL15 DDR4 32GB G Skill Ram, 2 GTX1080TIs in SLI and have my OS and P3Dv4 on 2 separate Samnsung 960 EVO 2TB m.2 SSDs. I'm able to pretty much lock 30FPS even in the most intensive areas with the entire Orbx Global and FTX suite, Open LC, FS Global 2018 FTX with lots of addon scenery.

It's also phenomenal in multi tasking (best I have ever used), Audio Mixing/Mastering/Editing and Encoding/Decoding as well as Video Encoding/Decoding. Not to mention being able to record P3D with OBS with virtually zero FPS loss.

Really an awesome alternative to some of the top tier Intels and I'd do it all over again if I had the choice. No regrets heading over to AMD for the 1st time.

The next jen CPUs may be slower single core clock but more cores due to removing the way the CPU works, the security update to remove Spectre. 

Keep in mind that performance is a combination of main thread core speed plus enough extra cores to have good terrain loading plus a L3 cache that is as large as possible ...

Not true, but if you already have one of the best chips available, it would be nonsense to invest quite a lot of money for one that's just slighly better, when there is a brand new product around the corner.
