P3D v4.5 and ORBX FTX Global...

Featured Replies

I made a fresh install of P3D in my rig, started it to try the new scenery and night lighting - liked it ! - and then, without even searching the forums for any notes on compatibility, I proceeded directo to install my two only scenery add-ons ever for P3D - Orbx FTX Global and Aerosoft Madeira LPMA.

Both installs were flawless, a first flight from LPCS to LPPT felt great, and I did feel the night looked different ( ? ) in the villages and cities although it was painted by that good old chap ORBX FTX Global. Does it mean even FTX Global get's "enhanced" by the updates in 4.5 ?

Overall excellent performance - from what I recall, even better than the last time I fired P3D v4 some months ago...

Flightsimming since 1992

AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)

You know... I did a night flight out of BWI last night and had similar thoughts...

i9-10850K, ASUS TUF GAMING Z490-PLUS (WI-FI), 32GB G.SKILL DDR4-3603 / PC4-28800, GIGABYTE RTX5080 16GB WF OC 3 FAN running 3440x1440

Better or worse?

Seeing the incremental way that P3D v4 has evolved, I'm beginning to think that this is my last installment of v4 & I'll be looking at XP and hope that the add-on devs finally complete that sim.

XP updates every 3-4 months. Just for your information 😉

I decided to spend more time on x-plane a couple of months ago.  Night lighting sucks, there are very few decent cloud options, and let's not even get into the lack of good seasonal textures.  Although, I like the look of the x-plane world more than p3d, p3d is a much-more complete sim and will be for a long time at the rate that x-plane is being developed.

Oh God, here comes the X-Plane vs P3D debate 😛

My bad! I did not mean to do that.

Really? That is the first time I've ever read that the XP 11 lighting sucks.

IMO XP11 lighting blows P3D lighting away. If only P3D v4 had XP 11 lighting. That would be amazing! Hence my simple question, better or worse?

Unfortunately, I have to wait a few days to update in order to see for myself if there's really an improvement to the night lighting in v4.5.

I can't sim without EZDOK v2.8. Once it is updated, it will take me about three days to do a full install. Hopefully, it will be the last time that I go through this process!

Would you be so polite to let XP11 out to the equation (getting tired of it) and talk about P3D V4.5 since this is the P3D forum.

Now, my only BIG BIG problem is a BIG BIG aircraft I'd like to have for P3D... buyt costs a BIUG BIUG ammount :-)

It's actually 2 to be complete & perfect :-)

Meanwhile, there's always FSLabs A319/20... which i believe will soon get some update for 4.5.

Going back on topic.

I updated Cliënt + Content. I only opened and closed FTX Central.

Looks so far so good.

I remember Poppet advising to delete the FTX AA ORBXLIBS.txt file and then launch FTX Central, which then will give a message to re/install ORBXLIBS.

I do that all the time - takes a few minutes and keeps everything neat.

My only action with Orbx after the update (client and content) to v4.5 was to simply open FTX Central.  I noticed it took a much longer time than normal the first time, but since all is normal.

The v4.5 change list includes improvement to highway night lighting.  No one has mentioned that yet so I thought I'd toss it in.

Hi Gerard,

Where is that located? I took a look-see but have not been able to locate the file? Thank you Sir!

Kindest regards,
