It is a great looking picture.. but not substantially better than you could make of the RealAir Duke V2 or the a2a Bonanza panels.

Or the Vertx DA62 or Alabeo Seminole, for that matter..

Lets see what this new sim actually delivers.. the jury is still out..

As topic is about visuals, I have to totally disagree with you. In my point of view, the new sim is years ahead, visually speaking, to those examples you cited. A lot of effects current sims can't seem to show at the same level.

Now if we talk about systems accuracy, it would be another story.

It's not about the 3rd parties quality, it's totally about the current base sims capabilities. This MS shot shows effects the current sims can't reproduce.

ohhh OK, yes, now i see what Krakin was saying.

Although i disagree that at any point in time did A2A or realair look cartoonish.

They're trying to excite us rather than just inform us.

Ah, ‘excite’. So that’s the word for this clever (?blatant) pre-marketing advertising ploy? Let’s not allow ourselves to be drawn into a state of collective delusional expectation. Instead, I suggest we try to give MS the benefit of any doubt until we learn more about what’s actually on offer.

Thus far, I suspect what we have been permitted to see is designed simply to whet our appetites and there is little doubt that it has been successful. Like many others around here, I have been around long enough to have cultivated a healthy level of suspicion when stuff like this appears. Make no mistake I would like it all to be real but, as the old saying goes, if it seems too good to be true then, and not infrequently, it usually is. Hopefully, on this occasion MS will prove me to be completely and utterly wrong.

Mike

I share your approach of caution. But why does what we have seen so far of MFS seem too good to be true? What I see is a really good looking sim that has the chance of becoming what we want it to be. But I also think that if they're putting that new sim together, it better look like the trailer does, I mean, it's 2019. It very much has to look like it, IMO, because I feel this is the standard of today and it therefore hasn't surprised me what it looks like. I'm still utterly amazed by that trailer, but I'm also thinking it's about time we get something like it.

Scenes from the trailer, such as the hangar one etc, have real hdr/lighting effects and made p3d and XP look flat. It would be good if this was real time video from the sim, but I suspect they applied cgi tricks or Ray tracing. It may be real time Ray tracing with RTX and DLSS. Microsoft should answer these questions, so we can discuss facts and don't have the endless speculation.

At the beginning of the video it states "Captured in real-time 4K".  One of the interviews mentions they had to state this because people wouldn't believe it was in-game footage.  I think everything we see in the video is direct from the sim.

The screen shot of the panel, however... 😄  No way to tell for sure.  I would have preferred a shot without the DOF so we could do a more direct comparison with current high quality panels.  I think people would be impressed by the new materials processing.

You guys are on the right track without hearing any of us blather on in the forums. You do you MS.

According to them, info will begin to flow on the 25th. Maybe not the technical aspects of the features, but we will see what they will have to share that day.

They didn't share more because they can't at this point.

Cartoonish may be harsh but I'm including 3rd party efforts when I say MS is on a next level. I looked at the examples and I could tell it was a sim right away. They look good but the textures look off enough to make you know it's a sim. The MS screenshot made me double take.

@irrics , while I understand your reaction we have to remember that MS instigated all this speculation and argument by choosing to post that video and those images. They did so quite deliberately knowing that such actions would provoke responses and, possibly, brickbats from a very discerning, some would say hard-bitten, community of flight simming enthusiasts.

We have to assume their motives were both honourable and without any intention to deceive. We have little or no real evidence to the contrary other than unfounded suspicion based on previous behaviours. We now need to step back, place our trust in the new sim’s Developers and let this play out.

Mike

What will the likely flow of info on the 25th be?

Does it need a thread; "What do you think will be shared on the 25th by MS"?

Are we all getting a bit too much in to it?

irrics hit it on the head a couple of posts ago.

@Cruachan

My only point is that some people are are just going to crazy town on speculation based on the angle of the photo and all sorts of other nonsense and minutia and assumptions that literally every tiny thing is clearly some big orchestrated scheme.

I think some people should realize that they may have just wanted to “post beautiful screenshots” without any agenda to any of it beyond sharing their exciting progress.

Agree with your point about “let’s just put our trust in them”

I didn't say that it was necessarily working, just that I thought that was their intention. I think that most people (with one or two exceptions) are giving them the benefit of the doubt whilst hoping for the best.

Maybe it doesn't mean nothing, but The Crew 2 also has flamingos like those in the MFS trailer:

And the high quality garage scenes with real time reflections remind me of the hangar shot in the MFS trailer. Hmmm...
