From the ground up FSX and X-Plane are very different and it just so happens that X-Plane can produce more realistic global lighting. So if people were under any illusions that Microsoft have started from scratch with MSFS then now you know... However I can see clear improvements already and so long as Microsoft are committed to ensure the fidelity and visuals are the best they can make them then I'll be happy with whatever they produce because the bar has gone several times higher than I would have expected for a new MSFS release.

I've flown at night somewhat often and I think XP11 NL is pretty great! August 20, 20196 yr I would like to see some custom illumination on buildings. For example. now KLAX is completely dark, but this is how it looks in real life at night (video from other topic). Well, this applied to the world is something I would like to see...
August 20, 20196 yr @MatthewS Is there anything at all about MSFS that you do like? It seems every topic in this forum raises you level of negativity. Thank you. I don't think FS2020 has sloped runways, I think XP has better night lighting, I think FS2020 is based on old code base and not a rewrite from scratch. How is any of that negative? edit: I'm really liking the weather and Azure scenery streaming Edited August 20, 20196 yr by MatthewS added what I like. Matthew S

Yes they must be super intelligent to use a 15 year old code that runs like garbage on current high end systems and then port it over to xbox so that It can run at 5 fps. You are severely underestimating the Msfs dev team here. Baber My Youtube Channel http://www.youtube.com/user/HDOnlive

But the main reason I think their code is based on FSW/FSX is the way the airports are rendered at night, looks identical to FSX. Honestly if it was completely new code base I would expect the airports to look quite different. Matthew S

The lights are blured by the AO, but I can tell they are nothing like FSW/FSX/P3D lights.https://cdn.microsoftstudios.com/fsi/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/GrandCaravanEXFlaps.mp4?_=1 9800X3D@H150i // Msi RTX 5090 Trio OC // 64GB DDR5 6000mhz CL30 // 2TB + 1TB Nvme Dell 27" 2127DGF - 1440p - Gsync - 165hz Thrustmaster TCA Sidestick Airbus // TCA Quadrant Airbus // TFRP T.Flight Rudder Pedals // Logitech Flight Multi Panel

But I am not that thrilled with what I am seeing of the ground night lighting; city lights in particular. Like in previous iterations, it seems faint. They have also not shown too much of it yet, suggesting they may still be working on it. Dusk and night sky effects so far look nothing short of spectacular. I am hoping that night lighting on the ground will be equally as impressive. To me, xplane 11 offers the best night lighting, in particular streets. The title of this should read "Night lighting not so spectacular YET"

August 21, 20196 yr I agree with @aleex it would look fantastic if the night lighting had some random ads coloring the landscape, especially in cities. Some blue, green, red lights in addition of the yellow and white from the default city ones. The intensity of each one shouldn t be the same to add immersion. Edited August 21, 20196 yr by Noooch

Is it possible that in all flight simulations only street lights serve as lighting? Then it would be logical for me that the night shows "without life". Many different colors and different intensity would be necessary. But that would be a huge effort. Are satellite Data at night available? Edited August 21, 20196 yr by Pitbull2504
