Obviously, the design decision is not a result of this thread but MS has understood that the issue had the potential to sour the mood of many. Good omen that they listen. It shows that it is useful, at the alpha stage, that we can voice our concerns about "small details" and not wait to know the sauce with which we are going to be eaten as some fellow simmers propose to do. I support that approach, spreading our concerns at this stage is a healthy thing for everyone, including for MSFS Team as they can maybe adjust the final product. Don't misunderstand, this is no negativity.
August 23, 20196 yr Shoudn't this topic be locked and the object of the topic changed to something like [Confirmed] Slopwed Runways ? Chock 1.1: "The only thing that whines louder than a jet engine is a flight simmer."

They are not thrown in ad hoc because of some posts on Avsim 🤣 Biggies Confirmed: PC / non subscription version, Xbox version!, Flight Sim store, Grass, Volumetric Clouds (probably), HDR/4k, Sloped/Curved runways, Wild life, Multiplayer mode (probably), Aircraft listed from trailer. Biggies On Ice: Aerodynamics modeling/Physics, Next gen combined ATC/traffic, RTX Ray Tracing Effects, Weather Effects(wind shear, smooth transitions etc), Fmod Surround Sound, Season Changes(with shaders?), Precipitation Effects (Rain/Ice on tarmac?). Hardware support, SDK support. http://youtube.com/c/Greazer
August 23, 20196 yr Back to topic? Oh, BTW, a confirmation is definite, NOT probable What has not been confirmed... are the runways contoured, to allow side runoff in case of rain? This is essential, to prevent skidding in rain!! Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...

Hm, what about grooved runways? Furthermore for most airplanes there are performance tables for contaminated/wet runways as well. Don't know how many runways are 'contoured' IRL. August 23, 20196 yr Like a normal road, that's contoured to prevent water from pooling in the middle, so it runs off the sides, reventing skidding and aquaplaning. Robin "Onward & Upward" ... To the Stars, & Beyond...
August 23, 20196 yr What about porous friction overlay? Will they model the friction difference between Portland Cement Concrete and asphalt? What's the PCN? Rigid or flexible subgrade? I want to hear the difference when rolling over an L-845 vs an L-850 light base. I also want to damage the runway if I land an MD-11 at 470,000 pounds with the center gear retracted because my ACN is too high. 😒 One thing I really would like to see though is EMAS.

In more than 40 years I've never took off or landed on a runway that's visible contoured. Don't know if this would be worth simulating.
