I was under the impression that if P3Dv5 involves a new engine, which may mean our P3Dv4.5 or later update addons will be not compatible anyway. If this is, indeed, the case, MSFS 2020 (or whatever) and P3Dv5 will start off at the same starting block, as far as users are concerned. I think it will be largely a case of "first in best dressed" and even then, I believe it will be a case of "suck it and see" to decide which platform to go for as opposed to staying with P3Dv4 versions to keep your existing addons. Another thing to bear in mind is that both, I think will be, slightly, at least, better than XPlane 11, BUT ... Laminar is also looking at a new engine that we may have to look at new addons for too. Laminar, P3D and MS are all going to be incredibly similar (except for the "entertainment" aspect. Actually, from that aspect alone, the winner is going to be the consumer, but .... at a cost (new addons) These are just my thought but I believe we have MUCH to look forward to. Not necessarily, LM always works closely with us to ensure we can port over our addons as easy as possible, normally new features are added to the SDK, meaning you only need to learn such features and apply it to your addons. Many times such SDK improvements are actually by request of 3rd party content developers, so the changes are very well received and expected. As opposed to MS2020 which is all unknown at the moment, and potentially would mean learn an entire new way to build addons. But until they reveal what their plans are for their SDK we have no idea what we will need to do to port addons (assumption that we can..). More over not all developers will be invited for Alpha or Beta stages, meaning such vendors will need to wait until MS2020 is out of the production line before being able to start learning any SDK procedures. LM understand completely the importance of 3rd party content developers for the ecosystem, we will see what MS approach will have on this regard.. Regards, S. August 20, 20196 yr Simbol, As I said "uneducated" I genuinely hope you are right. I have always thought that if LM went to a new engine it would make all our addon obsolete in much the same way as when we went to 64bit. I could not be happier to be proved wrong. I also think that LM has demonstrated, far and away, the best ESP attitude towards simming consumers and their pockets. XPlane with its multitude of excellent quality freeware developers comes a close second. I have everything crossed for the future, and, have very little doubt that I will be a buyer of the MS product if it is in anyway better than P3D is at the moment, simply because they will both be great platforms ...
