September 16, 20196 yr That'll polish out, no worries. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
September 16, 20196 yr Moderator Well, there are undoubtedly some good parts left that could be recycled... I hope he had hull coverage on Draco! Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator

As soon as I knew I was going down my first thought also was about what the resulting cost would be, but since we’re slim on protection aside from our racing leathers and a helmet, my second quick though was “this is going to hurt”. The only time cost didn’t enter my mind was at a race in Firebird Raceway in Phoenix. I was screaming down the front straight going into the chicane and somehow ended up doing a tank slapped and my first thought was “this is going to hurt”. I woke up next in the hospital, then asked about damage to the bike and cost to fix. 😂😂😂 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
September 16, 20196 yr He's twice as good a pilot getting out of that wreckage as he was getting in 🙂 When I was flying I used to remind myself on very turbulent days, like an old sea dog, "Aargh, here be monsters!"😁 I remember seeing a video a year or so ago of Mike doing the Draco show and tell. Not saying he was over confident but he sure got a very good deal on a large dose of humility there. I suspect he might rebuild. I'd say it's not anything like as bad as it looks. I had two close incidents that needed a write up while I was flying. One when the gear wouldn't lock down and retracted on landing and the other more scary one, lost the canopy on the downwind. That was scary because if it had hit the horizontal stabilizer and I had lost pitch control I wouldn't have had the time to get out at only 1000'. I was luck and got an inexpensive dose of humility. Found the canopy an hour later in a farmers field without a scratch on it. 😜 Edited September 16, 20196 yr by Avidean

LOL - I don't think it could be further from a Microlight - it was a massive fire breathing dragon - with a PT6 Turbine up front... It started out as a "Wilga" - but most of the aircraft was remade - leaving little in common with the original... Regards, Scott
September 17, 20196 yr Rob, I'v always walked away from my virtual crashes without a scratch - so glad you escaped harm in our real world...

Yeah but not much when you can do when your unconscious 😂😂 Btw, Dovi was lucky a few weeks ago when he went airborne at Silverstone. He’s lucky to have walked away from that. BUT in an fragile aircraft probably very different thought process when you know you're going to hit. The best advice I've heard with something like an engine out on takeoff after rotation, is to immediately assume the aircraft now belongs to the insurance company. It's no longer yours. Your job is to to keep flying the aircraft until it's on the ground in a way that keeps everyone alive. I was in a DHC-3 Otter doing photo shoots years ago in Central America when the engine failed at altitude. A sudden BANG and the prop jerked to a stop, maybe a thrown rod. It gets your attention. The pilot had to ditch in the water offshore, and we all had to swim out of the plane while it was sinking. The pilot dd a good job in controlling the splashdown. I was in my late 20's at the time, when you think you're invulnerable, so I thought it was cool episode (except for losing the cameras to saltwater). At my age now, I don't think like that any more. Time has a way of making you appreciate how things might have turned out differently. X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator on Windows 10 i7 6700 4.0 GHz, 32 GB RAM, GTX 1660 ti, 1920x1200 monitor
