Monday? sounds a bit strange. As if we were receiving unannounced information from Microsoft. I'm looking forward to it

Just curious, how has the connection been made between "Twitcher" invites and Microsoft Flight Simulator?  Microsoft have a lot of gaming content that isn't flight simulation?  The Alpha isn't going to be available until Oct 24th.  Is the assumption here a PR event for MFS?

Cheers, Rob.

Total and utter speculation. Only on the basis that a flightsim streamer said he was 'flown' to seattle for a 1 day event.

An announcement about an announcement, it must be Microsoft Flight Sim. He only forgot about the pre announcement.

What's Twitch?

Here's a typical stream:

"Ok welcome to the stream, everybody. Today we are going to....Oh, harryman247, thank you for the 16 months!...Ok, where was I? Yes, today we are going....hello, scruffymonkey64, thank your for the follow, welcome.  Ok, today we are....Oh my goodness, mrpointless, thank you for the re-sub! 28 months in a row!.  Yes, like I was saying today we are flying a long haul from...Wow! moneybags101, thank you for gifting 17 tier one subs! C'mon, chat, let's get some emotes going for moneybags!!!"

Three hours later....

Still haven't pushed back.

Chris

Twitch, itself is not a bad thing. There is/was a whole subset of flight sim streamers that did establish a nice community feel and interaction with viewers. Unfortunately, over the past few years, it has become a "career choice" for a lot of people. It has created this expectation that every follower, every subscriber gets a special call out. That's how you grow your channel on the way streaming financial success. Ironically, that's exactly the type of activity that detracts from providing compelling content. Some of the people streaming have really interesting personalities and can be fun to watch. The constant pandering is too much for me though.

Chris

I don't use Twitch and I don't like live streams because they waste time, but there are YouTubers that offer tutorials or reviews of flight sim products that are really useful and entertaining. You might as well see the product in action before you buy it.

I rather watch grass grow than someone play a videogame. What a waste of life time

To be fair, Matt Smith (chewwy) does a good stream.  He's balanced, articulate and respectful.  He generally researches the software before he uses it in the sim and overall knows what he's doing in the sim.  The over-excited flapping I can do without, but whatever.  Blackbox and Flightdeck2Sim are very good value and real world guys.

I find the rest of the streamers of little value.  No idea why some stream their sim sessions when they can't operate their aircraft properly, but to be fair,  all they are really doing is simming, like everyone else - and streaming it.  It's the following that gets me.

This!

I don't get the whole twitch thing, or the celebrity culture, but Matt Smith (Chewwy94) is all the things you mention. Such a pleasure to watch and learn from, and to be entertained by. His stream is my radio station when im at work. Full respect to the guy - a humbled, respectful and pleasant chap to while away some time listening to.

Yup, that right there is why I stopped following Chewwy actually.  He insists on playing that silly jingle ever time someone donates, and alot of his donors/subscribers seem to sub/donate just to get their name flashing up on stream.  Really annoying.  But if he didn't so that, he'd probably get alot less subs.  Difficult one.

But fair play to him.  He's a decent bloke, makes no bones about being anything other than a flightsimmer.

Twitch to me is another community like Avsim. Sure you watch someone fly around, but it's as much that as it is talking with other enthusiasts in the community, in real time, via chat. You can certainly learn things (especially from rw pilots), get differing perspectives on various topics, and see reviews for new products, etc.
