October 1, 20196 yr Comparing LR with LM / MS is not justified , simply because it's just too small and let me tell you they have still done a better job than pop3d. so please stop this stupid comparision , one wants to compare MS with ex-MS than let it be MS with LM. LM may have developed satelllite and if they have the infrastructure than they should as a flight simulator developer should compete with what MFS has introduced , else end of p3d Edited October 1, 20196 yr by HumptyDumpty Ryzen 5 1600x - 16GB DDR4 - RTX 3050 8GB - MSI Gaming Plus
October 1, 20196 yr I'm not comparing LR to MS/LM, I'm saying that LR need to partner with Google or Amazon to be comparable 🙄

They are not exactly playing in the same league, are they ? LMs flightsim arm is in direct competition with LR and X-Plane, so yeah, they're literally playing in the same league

October 1, 20196 yr The new sim seems to be such a massive leap forward that it is natural to ‘worry’ about the current sims’ futures. However, I would suggest: - Lockheed Martin may not care, if their commercial customers are already tied into long term contracts for p3d. Or, they may just licence msfs in some way in the future, as they did before. I don’t see what future it can have with all of their ‘academic’ customers when msfs releases though. - Laminar Research will just keep doing what they’ve always done and pretend nothing else exists anyway. And I love them for that.

It only helps with latency issues. For most people, the bandwidth is still down to what your ISP provides. I average about 32mbps and, no matter what the MS servers are capable of providing, that's the maximum I'm going to get. 4 hours ago, JonP01 said: The Google satellite however, despite being very low resolution has been updated several times in the last 12 months and is currently about 3 months out of date so far as I can tell. It would make sense as LM has already strong capacity in AI analysis of of satellite data. October 1, 20196 yr Amazing stuff at the rendering field, curious what the feel will be flying true the air mass... Great times ahead 🙂 André

Absolutely, because they make their money in mobile stuff now and XP is a labor of love for Austin. XP isn’t going anywhere as an entity. They can afford to do whatever they want. Agreed - I don't think commercial customers will intially be interested in the additional features FS 2020 is promising, especially if they have large investments in their own technology that's been built to work with P3D But in time, if FS 2020 does provide a more enhanced flight model and weather simulation over P3D, which seems almost a certainty at this point, then it could become a platform of choice in the future. MS decisions around whether to license FS 2020 commercially after way, way off I would suggest at this point - it's clearly a hobbyist sim platform primarily, at least at release What consumer, with a decent web connection, is going to by another iteration of Prepar3d over FS 2020 unless they can match the improvements Microsoft is claiming to be able to deliver?

As much as I love the head of the snake, his head is up his you know what...but from what I understand, this is a pet project for him, so the disconnect between what he wants and what users want is astounding- I've seen many videos of him completely clueless about various addons and such...what a shame.
October 1, 20196 yr One thing that I read between the lines is that they haven’t really thought about any gaming elements whatsoever yet, and may leave that completely to other developers. It seems their focus is 100% on creating the base simulator which will act as a foundation for other things to grow from. I think that’s fine and sensible, but I hope there will be some first party additions to make sure the game has some designed fun in it at some point too. I can’t imagine if there is a plan to release it on Xbox in a couple of years or so they won’t have to think about the game part of it too.

In one of the videos showing the sim booths where those invited were sitting you can see the menu of the sim on the screen. I can't say if this was just a dumbed down version specifically put together for the event, but there were two menu sections for tutorials and challenges. Edited October 1, 20196 yr by threegreen
