VR Inclusion in MSFS

I don't understand why there is resistance to the desire to include VR in the sim.  Its not like it is an "either/or" choice.  The challenges necessary for the inclusion of VR are not related to the challenges associated with adding seasons.  There is of course resources to consider.  For the VR inclusion you are looking at development resources.  For the inclusion of seasons you are looking at development resources and likely significant storage resources to account for the extra seasons.  It is possible that the limiting factor for the inclusion of seasons is not the development resources but the operational cost of maintaining the extra storage on their servers

Because the team said they would prioritize the things the community wants the most. To implement VR they would put some other feature on hold, they stated they can't implement everything they/we want for the v1.0 and some features will have to come in future updates.

What we all can do is provide them our feedback when the feedback system is working. From there they will have a metric to select which features to prioritize.

About seasons, I'm pretty sure it won't affect the storage. They can and probably will use more modern techniques, like shaders. Shaders will just place a mask over the imagery and objects. You don't need to have 4/5 different images for the same tile. You just need one and use the shaders to modify those when needed (covering the imagery with snow, changing the color of the grass on the ground etc).

To conclude my thought, it will be all about the feedback they receive. The more people asking for a feature, the faster it will be implemented.

I dont know if it's a resistance to VR, it's the perceived noise VR lovers are making. Yes we are passionate about VR cause we had that OMG feeling putting the head head. But they also need to look inward and realize they are doing the same thing with seasons. They are passionate about that. Theres nothing wrong with being like that, but it's always easier to blame the other guy and shoot them down if they dont share the same passion. Same with Xplane vs MSFS, and the same with Michigan State, and OSU football. It wont go away. Nobodies wrong or right.

They are FS 2020 pro-climate activists you can say... aren’t you? /s ☺️

The difference being I dont think pro-VR users have invaded any other threads to talk down other people's priorities.

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

No, we haven't

I never thought about VR until I switched from P3D to X-Plane less than a year ago and noticed a pretty active VR community. I decided to buy an Oculus Rift at the time and was absolutely amazed by the level of immersion - I have now upgraded to a Rift S (that does give that extra bit of clarity that you need for VR) and I can safely say that VR has made my whole flight sim experience so much more enjoyable and made especially GA aircraft flying a lot more interesting. As it looks that VFR flying will be enhanced quite significantly I am very excited for the VR world in the new Flight Simulator.

That said, as much as VR is a very important feature for me as well, I am sure that the new FS will have tons to offer to enjoy myself with, even without VR at launch. As some of the devs were saying in the Q&A I have seen, I'd rather wait for a very good implementation rather than a quick and dirty one, especially where I am a bit concerned about the performance where XP is struggling at times even though I have a relatively high-end system.

As long as it is on their roadmap and it will be there at some point, I am a happy man.

Well? That makes 4 VR users. Glad we're all here. Lmao (sarcasm)

That is where Agile software development, which I am sure Asobo is using, allows the implementation of a baselined feature with the future in mind. That means the dev team can create VR with basic functionality and high performance that can grow over time to VR with moderate and then advanced functionality with high performance. By doing things this way, they will be able to get valuable feedback from VR users as to the steps to take from Basic to Moderate to Advanced.

Yep I'd like that, as long as VR will continue to receive the same attention - not in the way that VR in its basic form gets a checkmark as in 'delivered', focus is moved onto completely different deliverables, and the more advanced milestones of VR will be put at the back of the roadmap again at an even lower priority (since there now is at least 'some' VR capability). The question then also is what that basic functionality would entail and if that would be in line with the expectations of VR users who are paying for the product to use it in VR.

Best regards,

Oh, and the motion sickness comments..... before i started with VR, I honestly thought the same way.. as i refuse to go to the viewing deck of the CN tower in Toronto,  or stand on the edge of a drop off.

You're talking about vertigo which is not what causes motion sickness for most people using VR. It's a sensory mismatch between the eyes and the inner ear which is the main culprit.

I don't think that anyone is objecting to VR capability being incorporated into the sim at some stage (I'm certainly not). It's more about priorities and what would benefit the most users on release. Seasons, for example, are usable by everyone whereas VR is only usable by a relatively small number. If resources are limited, something has to be seen as more important.

Gee how I wish  I was a scrum master or ITIL certified.  I'm just certifiable.
