If I had my way I'd ban polls in this forum as they achieve little except to cause endless, sometimes quite vitriolic, arguments. Polls where, at best, only a few hundred participate out of the tens (hundreds?) of thousands of members here are statistically irrelevant. i7-14700k | Asus ROG STRIX Z790-F Gaming WIFI | 32GB DDR5 RAM | MSI RTX 4080 Super | WD Black SN850X 1TB & 2TB | Corsair HX1000i ATX3.0 | MSI MAG401QR 40" monitor | Win 11 Pro 64-bit | Meta Quest 3
October 12, 20196 yr NO!!!!!!! Polls are lovely. They bring people together. The World is divided into two groups. Those who say "Give me a link" and those that provide the link. WWG1WGA
October 12, 20196 yr A product made in partnership with Microsoft for Windows and X-Box that uses elements of FSX is probably going to be using Microsoft developer tools and retain the Windows file structure. Once you make some shortcuts, it's not that bad. And in my experience X-Plane's setup isn't that great once you introduce things like LUA and scripts, etc.

July 29, 20205 yr It wouldn't work anyway, because you know 3rd party devs wouldn't get the memo and would install stuff all over anyway. One thing that frustrates me about the windows file management schema in general is the /user folder. Stop putting configs for software in there on single-user machines. Now I have to poke through /user/ and /appdata/ and about 4 other directories just to find the standard locations for config files and saves, and then there's always some software dev with an attack of the clevers who decides to stick it in its own unique location. It would be nice if all software were required to install all of itself, and its config files, into one directory of the user's choice. Saves can go in another directory of the user's choice (useful for things like video editing projects), but you have to wonder who ever thought this shotgun approach was a good idea. July 29, 20205 yr I like FSX. Addon Scenery directory, with Scenery and Texture subdirectories that are always empty.
August 21, 20205 yr So, to all those that have installed MSFS 2020, what does the file structure look like? August 21, 20205 yr Moderator Folks, MSFS add-ons must be "packaged" in their entirety, then placed in one specific folder that is completely separate from the default content. My problem is finding the darn folder to begin with! I found it this morning, then went to another folder to grab a new ../liveries folder... ...and now can't find that bloody folder again! 😢 Fr. August 21, 20205 yr I think it's the "Community" folder, if I'm not wrong: \Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community i9-11900K (5.3 GHz), 64 GB RAM (DDR4 3600), RTX 3070, 1 TB (M.2 SSD). Windows 10 Pro. Installed Sims: MSFS 2020.
September 13, 20205 yr There are two reasons I did not want to purchase Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. Reason #1) "Microsoft" Reason #2) This exact topic!! With that being said... Well, here I am, a new owner of MSFS 2020. Patiently waiting for VR.
