10 years with Avsim...

Can't believe it's been this long since I first started logging on and participating in these forums, downloading files, and reading the various reviews. Congratulations Avsim for reaching a milestone.

Yes, well done on the first decade of service to this community of simmers !I don't know what we would have done without you !!Here's to the next decade !

Thank you! But, we are not quite there yet. :) We wanted folks to start thinking about how we can celebrate this, so the reason for the way-too-premature news item. Though the survey is intended to be somewhat "tongue in cheek", there are also some serious hints in there about what we are considering. I will let you figure those out. :-lolBut, as a die hard Bulgolgi fan, I can guarantee you that anything we do will include at least a plate or two of Bulgolgi...

Tom,wow, almost 10 years!! I remember signing in late 1997 or 1998 and hated it as it was slower than 'the other site' ;-) Now I can't imagine another site to be my browsers start page!Being a German living in Philly, I had to opt for the 'umpapa' band in the survey ;-) That survey is too funny Tom!! Keep up the great work.Cheers,Petehttp://members.aol.com/pzsoulman/myhomepage/logo.gifAMD64-3400,1GB/3200DDRAM,WinXP(SP2),DirectX9.0c,Geforce6800(128MB)(Det.84.21), CH Yoke/Pedals

Tom this is just an idle question,Have you thought about who will succeed you when you decide to personally retire??? Just wondering if that far in the future has been planned so we don't see Avsim go by way of Microwings years down the road...

Retire? Me? The only way I am going to retire from AVSIM is if someone offers the Board of Directors a gazillion dollars to purchase it and then fire my butt (and that (a gazillion dollars that is) ain't going to happen.. :) ). Nope, they are going to have to pry my cold, dead, fingers off the key board. :)EDIT: Oh, and just so everyone is further assured and of peace of mind on the subject, in my Will I have left my share of AVSIM to my five cats (see my blog for more info). That should leave everyone comfy with the idea of AVSIM's future. Oh, and they hate the color scheme of the current AVSIM design. They would much more prefer, well, to be polite, a scheme they call "diaper fill yellow". So, exciting things in the future, I am sure. :)

Man! Ten years. I've been here since 1999. That time sure went by fast! Looking forward to the party in Charlottesville! ;)Don

10 years on the Internet is a big accomplishment! I took the survey, but have a suggestion for the party location...Maho Beach at St Maartin. No plans need to be formalized or anything, just have everyone converge on the beach and go from there! :)

10 years already? I started out visiting microwings.com in 1995. Then when they closed down, I transmuted to Flight.com (got fed up with their message board -- I think you had to pay at that time for access), came over to Avsim.com and have never left.RH

Ah yes - I rememnber Microwings. I thought Avsim started off as a kind of electronic newsletter? I remember you had to download it to read the latest FS news. Maybe my old brain is failing... :-)

I remember in the early days of the net I visited Mike Marando's Flight Sim Uploads, and eventually somewhere back then, that gradually transferred over to AVSIM at some point. Can't remember when that was though.Back then I didn't use my old 1992 Wing Commander callsign (Mace) as my handle here. I think I might have used my name or something like that.RhettAMD 3700+, eVGA 7800GT 256, ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, etc. etc.

Wow! Ten years. Hard to believe. I've been here since the beginning (I think I'm number 5 on the simmers roster :-)), and AVSIM has been a big part of my daily routine for nearly one-fifth of my life!I hope we're both still around in another ten years.Cheers!-------Justinhttp://www.fsgenesis.netHigh Quality Scenery for FS200x

I'm also in disbelief that it's 10 years. I recall coming here on the first day when "the list" was my source of simming information (followed on from Compuserve). Been here almost every day since I think.I wonder who else is here still and are "first day originals"?If anyone here thinks that Tom is tough on unruly behaviour, "the list" sure had it's characters that were nothing short of ruthless :).
