Starting to worry about this new sim...

Featured Replies

At the risk of just parroting what was stated earlier, I don't understand why people are so hung up on streaming/caching such that they believe offline would be absolute trash. As they stated, cities are still recognizable and can be used for VFR as it is stated in the preview. It has the building/water/terrain data and it's still a reasonably accurate representation. At least judging by the footage in the video, it certainly looks more accurate than what I have now. Is this really different than what other sims are doing? In terms of selected areas being more realistic than others, that's how P3D and XP is as well. Even with all the addons, you only have a select regions with any good degree of accuracy.

All the assumptions and speculations really are really getting old. We need to concentrate now, on what is shown, not the unseen.  It's still so far away.

Interesting...do you have a reference we can look up from MS.

Every video that’s been released so far?
It will happens swiftly, just like the Galactic Empire when it ruled the galaxy.

The present XBOX is not the same as the new platform therefore no one will know how it will perform when released.

For the sake of future development we hope it does well on the new XBOX to fund the project going forward.

All this worry for nothing. MSFS isn't for the elite only and their mega hardware and PC's. All will be able to enjoy it. Let's just relax and wait for the next installment of the only f/sim to take us closer to reality then any f/sim before.

I'm waiting for someone to argue with you and quote you out of context Pmsl

I don't think anyone is here is looking to argue. It is a case of having questions about what to expect in way of performance. Hopeful that someone from MS will address these questions more directly. Those of use who are hopeful of all this being more than just pretty pictures have a right to ask questions just like those who care about nothing more than seeing their house or crashing into buildings with a laptop and a mouse. Simple as that.

MS isnt silly. All those aircraft developers will be able to provide add-ons for 2020. That will happen very quickly hence leaving the other sims in the dust.

The sentiment you're expressing is called schadenfreude, and it's one of the pettiest and more immature feeling a human being can have.

In this case also stupid, because less competition would be worse for everyone, even for those who might prefer P3D or XP for any reason of their own.

For instance something like what will be the effect of say 4 GB vs 6 GB vs 12 GB download speeds. Another example would be say I fly mostly in the SE part of the US. Will I be able to store on say a 1TB hard drive all of the data and scenery for with the exception of things like current weather and traffic.

From - https://www.lanacion.com.ar/tecnologia/hablan-creadores-del-flight-simulator-2020-nid2318927

"What would be the minimum bandwidth and what would be the ideal for a good experience?

- With 3 or 4 megabits per second (Mbps) you will already be able to have a good representation of the world. Among other techniques, we cache the data, so if you fly over an airport and then go over that place again, that data does not need to be downloaded again. For the same reason, the realism of the terrain will improve as you fly several times over the same place. But you don't need super fast connections anyway. With about 10 Mbps you can already have all the level of realism offered by the simulator."

And I wish I could find the article, but I remember reading that a flight from London to Germany (Frankfort maybe?) would need 10GB on the hard drive.  If someone has the source please post it.

My brother has Coronavirus, confirmed by testing. On 3/26 he almost didn't survive the night.  He had extreme trouble breathing and was given a steroid inhaler.  He was very weak, had nausea, and other issues that aren't pleasant.  As of this update he is feeling much better, and seems he will be fine.  Stay safe out there.  (Updated 4/6)

I have a 70mb line so not fussed. Also not fussed if an air show or event cant show it in all its glory because of no internet.

People should either move with the times or stick with the legacy sims.

Sorry I am grumpy today but the point is still valid

I really hope we get something new to talk about tomorrow.

Looking at the same old discussions proceeding over and over again in new threads is getting boring...

Its not sentiment. Its reality. Some simmers are having a hard time understanding the profound development already of 2020 and what the future holds. The other sims simply cannot and will not have the ability to do whats been done already. The quicker everybody understands this, the better,

Once early testing is done and modified, adjusted and issues fixed, 2020 will be the only sim of choice for all users and will suit most hardware and download speeds. It would be like sending an ocean liner into service with a small outboard engine. Not going to happen.

No worries here and I don't have great broadband speeds like many others. I will be happy to run the offline terrain if the streaming fails to keep up, and then I'll look to downloading the areas of photoreal than I am most interested in. For me the weather, flight model and lighting are as much a draw as the terrain, and as a long term XP user with a ton of ortho and Orbx it's these other aspects that are of most interest, especially the weather and the way its rendered, which, as we all know, is greatly lacking in that sim.

It must be a dilemma for Asobo/MS. They had to reveal the sim when they needed to move to public alpha testing. But then they get crucified for the slightest thing they reveal if it's not absolutely perfect (or better). Once the genie's out of the bottle, there's not putting it back. Considering how much mileage can be made out of a 1 minute video, I think they should release small but frequent pieces of information. By the time the next piece is out, people won't have had enough time to rehash the previous information a thousand times and start climbing up the walls. The next new shiny will appear and they'll march off after it. Give them bread and circuses has been a very effective approach to controlling the "mob" for a very long time and is still widely used today.

Agreed. The clouds look so nice I think there'll be a surprising amount of mileage jin ust cruising around the cloudscape, nipping in and out of showers and looking at sunsets, sunrises, mountain silhouettes and streetlights.
