Starting to worry about this new sim...

Featured Replies

I don't see why, early reports says that it run very decently with a GTX 1070 at max details in 1080p, and that's even before the engine is fully optimized. So there's no reason you could not enjoy it at max settings when it'll come out by the end of the year.

This has never been a problem with FSX, P3D and XPlane but certainly will be if a visitor to the stand asks to fly in a part of the world where the scenery hasn't been cached. You have a great simulator but cannot show people anything but small areas of the world. Hmmm.

Would you not believe a visitor would understand such limitations, imposed by the venue, not imposed by the flight simulator exhibitor itself, and judge according to the understanding of the limitation?  If a visitor is that unreasonable to understand then I would perhaps prefer to not have that visitor as a customer.

I too am concerned about the sat image streaming, especially since I have crappy 7Mbit internet.

However, it does sound like we'll be able to pre-download regions we wish to fly in ahead of time, and there will be an offline mode where you can fly in an old school autogen style of scenery.

It feels to me like Microsoft has covered their bases pretty well, so while I am concerned it's only a mild concern really.

The whole point of a flight sim show is to showcase both the software and hardware. Some visitors will understand the limitations of MFS but others may well be exasperated that having travelled quite a distance hoping to see their favourite parts of the world are told sorry, the sim needs the internet and this show doesn’t have it.

Have you never heard the saying “the customer is always right”?

A  bit dumb with 90% of what you people are talking about most of the times, but eating up all this techno info being shared in the hope to learn something.

Concerning pre download, if i download LSZA to LSGG, will i be able to safe that my computer to fly again in 3 days time, maybe with different weather this time?

Meaning not to use the internet the whole time, but then get the same quality the internet users have?

NOTE I am really trying to make sense off this all.

Yeah, back in 1975.

The new phrase is "the customer doesn't know what they want until you show it to them"

Sorry but that is complete codswallop. What about those people who have invested in serious setups with P3D and are happy to remain with them? There will be a market for those sims for years.

Not at all. 2020 is so far ahead of the rest by a factor of 1 million+, nobody will stay on those other sims for long. The end is nigh for p3d and x-plane.

wrong. already i think we cannot talk about another simulator in this forum.

But for exemple MS2020 is xbox and PC. no linux. no mac.
And after MS2020 no helicoptere at release.

And after, plenty guys have plenty addons with specific usage and they not switch if they cannot replace easy specific addons.

These concerns have already been addressed in the recent interview to Lanacion.com:

regarding streaming the scenery, 3-4 megabits per second are enough to get a "good representation" of the world, and about 10 mbps are enough to get the full quality scenery.

Regarding big, long downloads: leaving your pc on to download during the night is a thing that has always existed, was completely normal before fiber and high speed internet became a thing, and is still completely normal in any place not reached by these connections, so basically everywhere that isn't a major city. I genuinely don't understand the concern for this.

I can’t. This is the main flaw of MS PR strategy. When they stop dripfeeding hard infos,  BS storms rage 😱😁

Yes, at least that's how I understood it. Nice flight by the way.

I know....

Cats and dogs living together.... mass hysteria!  And soooooo tired of reading the same arguments from 6 months ago. But then again, everyone is right! And leave it at that. See? No more arguing to prove you know more.

I hope the developers for MS will pick up on these concerns and more directly address them. What we need here is not more marketing talk but clearly address the perceived or real problem. For instance something like what will be the effect of say 4 GB vs 6 GB vs 12 GB download speeds. Another example would be say I fly mostly in the SE part of the US. Will I be able to store on say a 1TB hard drive all of the data and scenery for with the exception of things like current weather and traffic. I know that some people are guessing that this will be possible. I would like for MS to directly answer these sort of questions. The other unknown is how large will these downloads be. This is going to be important for folks who have limited data plans from their providers. All of these great ideas are wonderful but not very practical if you have to sell your first born child to be able to play in the "big leagues"

MS isnt silly. All those aircraft developers will be able to provide add-ons for 2020. That will happen very quickly hence leaving the other sims in the dust.

Interesting...do you have a reference we can look up from MS.
