Starting to worry about this new sim...

Hasn’t that been the history of flight sim?
i remember being reluctant going from FS2002 to FS2004.

I was certainly not reluctant to uninstall FS2002. It was rubbish, just like the four versions before it. I openly admit that I was a prat for even thinking about purchasing them (and making the same mistake over and over again). I decided to stick exclusively with Flight Unlimited 3 (and the FU2 San Francisco Scenery) until 2008, and I never once regretted it.

RAF Cosford which hosts the main UK meeting is a military establishment. Highly unlikely.

The exhibitor has plenty of notice about the constraints so just needs to prepare the most likely areas in advance. Given the non enhanced areas are still supposed to be decent quality then that can also be used as a selling point. As long as they are not flying a super fast Concorde at a low level there really shouldn't be an issue at that venue.

JustFlight hires one of the hangars for the weekend. The rest of the year it’s a working RAF establishment and a museum. What would you suggest JustFlight say to Cosford?

What is the situation like for sim meetings in the US?

UPDATE: Ah, you’re referring to the exhibitor in the singular. There are lots of them. They would be guessing where people want to fly.

And that’s assuming MFS will be available by early October. Maybe, maybe not.

What does any of this have to do with the price of bananas?

Nothing to do with bananas. I would have thought it was obvious.

Don't you folks across the pond have 4/5G - WiFi modems? I have one for my ham radio hobby that allows me to use my digital hand held radio on the DMR networks as long as I'm close to a cell tower.

I can connect my laptop to it and get up to 50Mbs on 4G, and 100Mbs on 5G.

There is 4G coverage but it's patchy. Cosford is probably not close to a 4G transmitter being quite rural. There is some 5G but only in London I think and when the BBC tried to demonstrate it 'live' it didn't work very well.

5G infrastructure is on hold as we await a Government decision on whether to let Huawei run it. Apparently your govt is not keen on us giving them a contract and I agree.

You would appear to well served.

That's too funny ... well not really for UK residents, but thanks for the link.

So is all the construction (and subsequent traffic congestion) on the motorways for laying fiber or is that something else?  Considering the cost of fuel in the UK and lack of charge stations, I was surprised by the amount of traffic I encountered back in Oct/Nov last year.

Cheers, Rob.

The motorway ‘reconstruction’ is converting the emergency hard shoulder into a fourth traffic lane. The additional of cameras makes them ‘smart motorways’. After the death of several people exiting or inside broken down vehicles in the inside lane (formerly a safe refuge) having been hit by other vehicles has questioned the wisdom of expanding motorways on the cheap.

I believe no further motorways will be converted but work on existing ones will continue. The M6 that took you from Pete’s south to the Midlands is one where the conversion continues. The traffic jams are frequent and cause a great deal of annoyance as exceeding the speed limit incurs a fine as does driving in any lane when the overhead gantry indicates that lane is closed to traffic. Big Brother is alive and well.

Sorry for deviating off the subject.

I firmly believe that if Microsoft or Asobo sets up live demos at Cosford they will surely have sufficient hotspots or sat taps to run live.

Thank you.

So I have been for a long time confused about the "NO INTERNET" conversation? Statements like, don't worry if you have "NO INTERNET" you can cache the data. Does everyone mean SLOW internet, cause if you don't have ANY internet how are you first going to download the game? ( Is there a DVD I don't know about coming? ) And for sure if you don't have any internet, you can't download and cache the scenery. I am guessing all these comments mean SLOW internet? Or am I wrong!

Very confused!

in2tech,

Most people mean no internet at the moment.  So you had internet to download it, but now you don't.  So if you can get it, then you can play it without internet just with the lowest level of scenery.  And we know that it will come to Xbox (unknown which gen), so that might be stand alone no internet needed with some scenery on disc.  But this is unknown.  It is possible they will have a physical disc for PC that might include some scenery.

Next, if you get the program and you have a slow internet, you can preload certain areas.  After they are preloaded, then you don't need internet after that.  So you could play for weeks with that scenery without an internet connection.

Although, depending on the service, you might need internet every so often for DRM.  I don't know if Microsoft's stores needs online periodic verification.  And Steam is game/studio dependant.

And we also know if you have slow internet they have 20 levels of realism to work with slower speeds.

Did I answer the question?

My brother has Coronavirus, confirmed by testing. On 3/26 he almost didn't survive the night.  He had extreme trouble breathing and was given a steroid inhaler.  He was very weak, had nausea, and other issues that aren't pleasant.  As of this update he is feeling much better, and seems he will be fine.  Stay safe out there.  (Updated 4/6)
