That is not what it says, it says simple tests can be performed at home. Even Downing Street is unlikely to have a CT scanner in the kitchen. It looks like a typical story about a non-story because there is no news, yet at least.

Yes, well I'm afraid that's not feasible. It's not feasible because the countries that have provided masks had the common sense to stockpile them well in advance. The UK didn't, the US didn't, many countries didn't.

Not forgetting of course that the people of some countries were wearing  masks when out anyway, prior to nCov making an appearance. Thus, there was no shortage of masks, most people had masks anyway and manufacturers in those nations were set up to manufacture the required numbers of masks.

You don’t need a n95 or surgical or melt blown mask. Just any kind of at least cloth cover to your face. Remember, if you can achieve at least the purpose of stopping the WEARER from spitting out, you are achieving some good while you wait for the supply of medical masks to catch up. Don’t let perfection be the enemy of good enough in a crisis. If the conditions are imperfect, you improvise and adapt to achieve as much as you can achieve at that moment. Otherwise you will always be defeated in the face of an ‘unexpected’ crisis.

On subject of mask I have to laugh when you see reporters have a go at politicians when they don't bother using them themselves

Agree with that. I also notice the number of television camera crews travelling around the country, including corona hot spots, to get interviews, completely contrary to avoiding unnecessary travel. And holding the microphone on a pole may look like being careful, but it's also a good way of getting it infected, and it will certainly be handled at some point.

Obviously its SIMPLE tests at Downing Street. But the point is that the government claimed Johnson was fine, and was just going into hospital for tests, the implication being SIMPLE tests. If he's gone into hospital and still having symptoms this long then, yes, they will be concerned. Clearly if he has gone into hospital specifically for tests. They wont be SIMPLE tests that dont require a hospital.

That wasnt what you were referring to or what I responded to. You were referring to masks provided by the government and administered to people. Again... not feasible for the reasons mentioned.

People making their own makeshift masks is a diferent conversation.

If you mean not feasible in the sense that the leadership here refuses even now to treat the matter with all due seriousness and take the necessary steps experts recommend and demonstrated by countries that have handled it well, then I agree. If they were serious about handling this, then they would make it a requirement and issuance, among other things. Unless we take these steps, we are destined for a very bad outcome.

I'm a dummy here so enlighten me.  Can the virus be transmitted by mosquitos?  If a mosquito bites someone who has it can it then be transmitted to others?

I am concerned because mosquito season will soon be here and I am a mosquito magnet.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

The WHO (World Health Organization) says this "So far there is no information or evidence that the new coronavirus can be transmitted by mosquitoes. The coronavirus is a respiratory virus that is primarily transmitted by droplets."

maybe this helps your question.

I wouldn't worry about it as this is a respiratory virus, you get it from breathing and coughing the same kind of way the common cold is passed on from person to person. It is not transmitted by blood however some specialist could give a 1 in 1,000,000 statistic saying otherwise, but coming from me, a common guy I would say no you are not going to get it from a mosquito bite in New Mexico.

No its NOT a story about a non story...

Boris Johnson is now in intensive care. The article I linked to was correct.

You know what I mean. You referred to masks being officially ISSUED and mandatory. Like they are in some other countries. As I explained, it's not feasible in the US or UK. Because the countries that do that, like South Korea, stockpiled supplies well before the crisis took hold. In addition, they wore masks anyway, prior to the nCov pandemic. So have the manufacturing capability to do that.

I'm repeating myself now.
