Force ALL Addons for P3D V5 to use XML method outside the root P3D folder?

  1. 1. I would like to see that LM forces ALL addons to the new XML method for installing Addons outside the root P3D folder, even if some of the devs won´t "update" their addons to this method and they become "unusable" in P3D V5

Opinions on this one? Discussing and explanations why you choose "yes" or "no" are very welcome. Also if it means a complete redisign of the present "method" and "possible ways" to avoid other methods than XML

For scenery though, I prefer the simplicity of scenery.cfg

I can live with both methods EXCLUSIVELY, but not in parallel. This has been a nightmare for maintenance, and I am afraid the plague will continue during the 5.x versions.

Kind regards, Michael

It's not going to happen because I think that some devs think that the old method prevents piracy. So good luck with this one.

The question makes no sense in any case. All the default scenery is in the scenery library and can hardly be moved outside the root folder. Like most "systems" it does not become complicated until complicated by an attempt to use both at the same time.

For example, if every time you see something that is X metres long an attempt is made to use the 39.3701 times table, things will quickly spiral out of control. Much better to learn what a metre looks like and then count to X.

That is no problem as with a reinstall they will be back ...

Poll.  Let's see, today is the day before release, what might be the odds that this is gonna happen?

1. About the same as winning the Powerball jackpot without buying a ticket

2. The same as being struck by lightning twice while waiting for the next train on a subway platform

3.  The same as getting the Beatles back together for a Coronavirus fundraiser

Vote quick...polls are closing soon!

Why today.......??

V5 get´s probably more updates so there is a chance within the V5.X to get more attention to this.

I am curiiuous how many struggle with installing tons of addons over and over again and how many support ist  needed by P3D just because a Addon issue occured but could not be identified as quick as possible with an "outside" method.

I am 100% sure that there could be a much seasier way....but that is something we have to ask LM. Just wondering how much simmers would like to see such an easier way compared to as it now is.

This should be a must not an if. One of the reasons why I don't like P3D is because of how certain lazy developers won't take the time to do things right.

I like how X-Plane is setup, makes things so much easier to manage and organize and troubleshoot if there are problems. I wish P3D would follow the same method as Laminar and not inject stuff into the registry. Which creates a mess for those like myself when it comes to organizing, managing, installing, uninstalling the vast amount of add-ons.

See my threads on prepar3d forums and numerous threads on here - I just do not understand why developers will not change their habits.  I am looking at you PMDG, Flightbeam, Majestic, LatinVFR etc.

Time is money and wasting time reinstalling everything is just plain dumb.  For v5, I am not spending a single penny on any addon which gets installed into the sim root directory.  Believe me, I have spend insane amounts of $$$ over the years on my hobby.  I should make a list on avsim singling out apps which are outside/inside the sim 😵

I reformatted my win 10 drive & installed win10 in about 10 minutes.

I still could run XPlane 11 which was is on another SSD. All I needed to do was re-install the GTN750 and Trainer. That was it!

X-Plane 11 rocks when it comes to starting over.
