I will be purchasing a new monitor shortly and just wondered if many people use an ultra wide monitor rather than two monitors are there any advantages/disadvantages of ultra wide monitors

any advice would be helpful

personally i'd go with a 4k tv.  better economics and the old days of tv's not being good as monitors are gone.  I have a 43" and love it.

You have to be careful when choosing a tv as a monitor. Not all have the same qualities. If you want text to be as sharp as a monitor the TV has to be capable of Chroma 4:4:4.

Smallest is 43” but if you don’t have the space stick to a monitor preferably with a VA or IPS Panel. More than one monitor showing P3D will compromise performance quite substantially.

Good point ray. My tv has this and I endured it did prior.

I sim with a single monitor and only 16:9 would work for me, on wide or ultra wide I can’t fit enough of actual instrument panel, etc. so think carefully before you decide on ultra-wide but this may work if you use more than one monitor.

I'm very happy with my curved ultrawide 34' 3440x1440 monitor.

Had a 43 4K TV and now have a 49" 5K UW. It is MUCH better, especially when hitting 60 fps+. More lateral view, better resolution, improved fluidity, better gaming support, etc. 

Not sure if you made a decision yet, but I wanted to add my previous setup was a 3x 24" monitor setup. And by adding the 2 more monitors using nvidia surround you loose about 30% FPS. So there is another reason to go with a single larger monitor.

This is comparing apples and oranges. You lose frames because you are trebling the pixel count, not because you're using Surround! I doubt you will see any significant performance difference between a 3-screen Surround and a single-screen UW monitor.

A single 4k monitor is faster than 3 in surround. I did a comparison as I have a 4k Sony I use once in a while, but I can't remember the exact numbers. But you are correct, if comparing to a 4k display the difference may only be around 10%.

In my setup it was. You can't just say more pixels in 4k so it must be slower, there is more going on there because you loose some processing power and delay in the three screens being powered.

But again the difference is very small. 

Here is actual pixel counts 4K is 3840x2160 = 8.29 million pixels   My triple wide monitor setup was 3x 24" @ 1920x1200 = 6.9 million pixels
