Really enjoying P3d v5 with HF

Featured Replies

After a complete re-install, and doing things "by the book", I'm really enjoying V5 HF!

  • Completely uninstalled V5 in Control Panel first and THEN the 6 additional locations where Lockheed Martin resides.  YOU MUST DO THIS!
  1. Program Data folder
  2. Local App data folder
  3. Roaming App Data folder
  4. User/Documents folder v5 files
  5. User Documents folder v5 addons
  • Restart computer
  • Install V5HF
  • Open ORBX (if you use it); check your addons there.
  • Settings/Help/ SYNC SIMULATOR.  I can't emphasize this enough!
  • Open P3d and ORBX will add all its addons.
  • Perform all your settings in the sim
  • Experiment - Have fun.

I have added  additional scenery, additional planes, etc. and for the first time set my frames at 60.  I used to use Unlimited always.  However, I found that 60 is my "sweet spot", and I have no pauses, no stutters, no problems.

Using SkyForce gives me great clouds and weather now (until Active Sky comes out for weather).  Also, whenever I add scenery to the sim, I go back into CENTRAL and SYNC SIMULATOR.  This has proven to eliminate many concerns and questions I had with my scenery before I made this a practice.

I'm still checking out V5 HF, and although I have seen some automobile traffic at FL25, everything else seems to be working pretty well.

Nice to see a positive post! I'm having a similar experience with it and took the same steps prior to installation...most of them anyway. My first flight was KGPI-KMSO in the Alabeo Titan. ORBX Northern Rockies and a very old but functional FSRealWX Lite injecting weather gave me jaw dropping views all the way. Still seeing a few too many poles here and there and certainly it's not perfect...but a smooth 30fps with VSynch, TB, unlimited frames.

P3DV5 HF will have its way with me, meaning 4.5 will be removed very soon.  🙂

cheers,

Greg

Yes....what's with the number of "poles" out there?  I see them in quite a few places, and I hope they give us a fix for that.

Disagree, didnt do any of that with the update and works fine.

I have to say that so far I am happy with what I see....No "anomalies" by any means.....not crazy about "brightens" on airports....So hopefully ENVSHADE will solve some visual "defects" that I don't like. Also of course I am "desperately" waiting for HIFI to make real weather because V5 is terrible...And of course updates on all Airplanes....But I haven't experienced any issue except "wall" while landing in CYYZ last night... With new HF landing in CYVR was good, will see how return goes....

Stan, this is meaningless unless you at the same time share your system specs.

I am actually enjoying it more than I expected, but I would never go back to 2D-sprite clouds like the ones of SkyForce. With all its limitations, TrueSky + FSGRW (for now) is the way to go for me.

I get a few less FPS with the HF1, but the VR fix, along with the hand of god seemingly being fixed is worth it. Still butter smooth, and truesky is hard to ignore.

Another happy customer - dramatically faster than 4.5 and now post-HF1 (a) I don't have to wait forever for setup screens to appear (b) I haven't had a 500ft drop onto an airport (c) going to full screen happens instantly.  Basically it feels more mature.

I have the occasional glitch and using the beta atmospherics occasionally get bits of cloud texture on buildings but it handles intensive scenery like Heathrow/London with TrueEarth and the Orbx AUv2 Melbourne very nicely.

One thing to note - upgrading to faster RAM was the secret to getting smooth terrain.

My specs:  Ryzen 3800x, GTX1080, 3200 RAM.

I too have not locked my frame rates and sit at 60 quite happily with no stutters, infact restricting to 30 as I did with V4.5 causes tearing now with V5 so I keep to 60.

Overall I am happy with V5 and will be better when all the "must have addons" are compatible.

It does make you think how reliant and how you take for granted Active Sky has been over the years and when its not there you notice it like a sore thumb. 🙂

I am though trying to work out ENV shade and what is ideal, so if any of you have got any tips on sliders for this to start off, it would be appreciated.

Cant relate:  I already run 3200 RAM at XMP on my ASUS Hero X MOBO and see stutters, but then it depends on sim settings.

I didn’t clear out the addons folder etc when I reinstalled, I think having to do that is counter to the idea of having addons installed outside of the sim?

Glad to hear these reports. Prior to the announcement of v5 and its release, I uninstalled v4 as I was having some issues. I got v5 but being a VR user couldnt fly until this new fix. Honestly, I'm done with P3Dv4, have no desire to "start building" v5 and am happy with just v3 and XP. I might install v5 again some day as it is a means to use all the crazy amounts of addons I have from the top developers but on the eve now of MSFS and the fact that it almost comes preloaded with what addons do for P3D...well who knows. Still great to know we have an improved sim for all the addons I own if I want to go that route.
