Hi,

This looks to be a very nice and promising update to the PHNL scenery for 3 sims.

Looking forward to this one! 😀

It looks very nice.  But man.  Why can't they just dust off JFK first?  You could argue it's their most important one up there with LAX and ORD.  ORD has been updated.  They've lost a few to other developers over the past few years.  I would be protecting LA and NY!

Announcement of MSFS put the kibosh on the planned work to KLAX and KJFK.
The last thing mentioned was that there would be an attempt at joint releases for P3D and MSFS for both airports.
PHNL and ZBAD-lite replaced them in the release schedule.

yeah I saw that too.  I'm not one that's sold on MSFS despite thinking I would be out of the gate.  I know they mentioned their plans for JFK was a ground up rebuild.  Maybe just a quick update would be more well received?

A "quick update" would probably be: a) not that quick, and b) received by many as a cash grab.

Known as one of the better quality developers, I think it would hurt their image if they went for a quick 'n dirty now.

Doesn't make it easier to have to continue waiting for updates to two of the most popular airports though.

hah.  Had no idea.  Thanks!  For what it's worth. I'd gladly pay.  In fact I'm almost surprised a 3rd party hasn't come up with a mod of the scenery to fix a couple of the terminals.

There was a further announcement today:
https://www.facebook.com/182761862226524/posts/872310786604958/

That was deemed newsworthy by the pre-eminent Flight Sim news site, who dedicated a new article to it, which was referenced by the OP.
Whether you believe it's newsworthy or not isn't for debate. They decided it was.

And some wonder why this site has a poor reputation with a significant number of flight simmers...

Actually looks pretty ugly to me.

First pic has some terrible landclass roads right near the airport and the water masking near the runway looks very non-realistic.

Second picture shows some pretty good taxiway textures but otherwise unimpressive - how about some grass or something in your promo shot?

Someone needs to do a decent photoreal rendition of Hawaii a la TrueEarth.

Failing that, FSDT really should do something about the terrain, masking and objects around the airport, just like we see from a lot of other top-tier developers these days.

Any reason why this would generate so much expectation, you know, with ORBX Honolulu..?

ORBX Honolulu was the Island of Oahu, not the airport. Sure PHNL got a mild ADE makeover, but it was still nothing compared to FSDT PHNL.
