I think Doug was joking, Mace, based on the comments of the OP.

Anyone with eyes can see that v5 is lightyears ahead of FSX. Even v4.5 looks tired once you've done a lot of flying in v5 with EA (I can't go back to it, even though I do still love v4.5 and I have multiple addons that are not yet v5 compatible).

V4.5 was a really good flightsim

V5 is even better. Myself I have no issues at all and for those that have hopefully HF2 will help..

Orbx has a massive library and some stuff that won’t work in FSX....they will get their money from you again one way or the other

While I understand the irresistible need to criticise at every possible opportunity, I am struggling with the logic of how, in the context of whether or not a product update to a new simulator is free of charge, a product that is not available for FSX but is available for P3D can be "getting their money from you again one way or the other". Or is that a general pop at all payware developers who will indeed be "getting their money from you again one way or the other" if you elect to buy a product from them for the first time?

Why do I get the feeling this is a MSFS troll post we are seeing more of this lately.

In the case of this thread, it stand for Fairly Sad eXample of what is clearly a trolling post.

FSX stands for Microsoft Flight Simulator 10.

MFS10 seems not to work, though for some reason MSFS2020 does.

FSXX would.

If you see SE tacked on the end then that stands for Superlative Edition.. 😜

And if you add Steve's Fixes to the Steam version, it stands for Flight Simmer's Xanadu

I recently purchased P3D v5. I'm sorry I did. Yes, it loads faster and has better performance on my 8 core ryzen than fsx, but it isn't compatible with much, regardless of claims of various developers. Kudos to ORBX and FSDT for making their products compatible and not tap dancing about needing to charge full price for a new license because it's a new platform. I will keep tweeking and tinkering, but I will put up with the lower frame rates of FSX.

FSX? Seriously? Wow.

You need to go back and re read what I typed. The comment was in regards to a developer who has a larger library of constantly growing add ons. The “get your money from you one way or the other” comes from the fact that IF you owned all their FSX products, and got the free upgrade they will always be releasing new airports, regions etc past the point of the person upgrading. Thus they will have a constant influx of new purchases on new add ons. Thus they will get your money one way or the other...quality products and a massive library.

counter that to a smaller developer that may have only one or two releases. If they had a product in fsx and spent the past 14 years upgrading it for free, it is costing them dearly in support and work updating it. Probably an unsustainable business model. Sure none of us want to pay upgrade fees...hell I’ve purchased Minecraft on my pc from the beta version....ps3, ps4, vita, cell phone, my daughter’s switch...most of those all run off the same base code now and no one bats a lash because they didn’t give us a free copy for a different platform Because we purchased prior or even a discount. Why is it in the flight sim community everyone is bitter when a new version comes out that they might have to pay for new versions of add ons?

It never ceases to amaze me.....this attitude of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" would still having us drive buggies pulled by horses.

It should be..."if it ain't broke....BREAK IT!"   That's actually the ONLY way that progress occurs.  P3d is a work in progress.  I'm sure we users will all be rewarded as more of it "breaks" and it progressively gets better and better.  OR we can just go back to the "good ol' days".

HA!

Stan

Understood, but on the other hand, just because something is the latest fashion does not make everything that came before somehow no longer any good. I quite understand how someone could go from FSX to P3D v5 and be royally disappointed, not because it isn't better in many ways, but because it doesn't work as promised. Despite countless claims to the contrary, FSX is still an extremely good flight simulator, as indeed is FS 2004.

OP has six posts, and comes here and makes an obviously inflammatory statement, Troll. I shall feed no further, and I suggest you do the same.
