New ATC App to Set AIs Active Runways & Approaches Testing

Featured Replies

Incredible. Just today in the morning I wanted to make a post here requesting a utility that could set take off and landing runways for AI. And I knew there were some attempts but nobody succeeded. Please keep up working on it, fs1.

Thanks.

The ability to override the active runway chosen (very often poorly) would be great! It's always distressing to be on the runway after landing and see AI landing at you in addition knowing they have a major tailwind. Active runways in Activesky conditions and briefing pages very frequently do not agree with what the sim is doing with active runways and AI. The sim itself does not seem to respect safe operating envelopes when choosing active runways. It seemed better a couple of years ago.

Another option which I would find interesting would be to read ActiveSky's active runways and set the sim's active runways (or at least the closest runway in sim because ActiveSky's runway database is not always accurate...cough...KORD...cough), or simply take ActiveSky's wind data and set the sim's active runway (i.e. do what the sim should be doing itself) with an appropriate algorithm to handle the active runway switchover when winds change. Sorry, I seem to have run off into left field. Just moments ago P3D wanted me (and the AI) to take off from 04R at KMDW even though the wind was 230/12 kts.

That describes precisely my experience with wind directions and the sim's runway usage.

The testing so far is progressing well.

There will be also ability to let AIs take off while AIs are landing at the same runway, provided there is safe distancing that will prevent go arounds.

Also ability for an AI to roll and take off faster.

Last, the ability to make an AI line up and hold for take off while another has landed.

These all uses the default ATC.

We are testing and let you know how goes.

Wow. I have dreamed about these features for years.

What platform are you testing on? v4.5 or v5?

May there also be the possibility to activate "inactive" runways for AI? Like opening RWY 18 at EDDF for departures only?

I think this is precisely the point of the tool - activate runways the P3D default system does not use, but are used irl.

Will this add-on fix the problem with AI planes attempting to land but then have to go around due to other planes that are still on the runway? I am currently using AIG OCI for my AI with traffic set to about 50%. Loading into KSFO and sitting at the airport to see how AI planes behave. I've noticed not only here, but other busy airports as well, that the traffic is very unorganized and that planes don't follow real life rules for landing and departing runways. This is an immersion killer for me and super annoying to have unrealistic AI behaviour, even though they are using real world flight plans. I'm not sure why the AI is a big mess at large, busy international airports. The default ATC doesn't seem to know how to handle the AI traffic.

Is this development still in progress?

Hi David,

This is bit of an old thread, but the app was developed and tested and it is known as ATCAPI.

There's a more recent thread open in the forum where all the info about this app can be obtained:
